UFC 204: Leonardo Santos to Fight Adriano Martins
A pair of underrated Brazilian lightweights will throw down in October, as the 28-7 Adriano Martins will fight the 15-3-1 Leonardo Santos.
Leonard Santos entered the UFC in 2013 through The Ultimate Fighter: Brazil 2. Santos was 3-1 on the show with a win over current UFC welterweight Thiago Santos. After would-be finalist Santiago Ponzinibbio pulled out of the finale with an injury, Santos replaced him against William Patolino. Santos submitted Patolino with an arm-triangle to choke to win both his UFC debut, and the TUF: Brazil 2 tournament.
Since then, Santos is undefeated at 3-0-1, with the blemish being a draw against former UFC fighter Norman Parke. Santos has won his last three fights, finishing two opponents. Most recently, the Brazilian upset Kevin Lee with a first round TKO at UFC 194. Santos was set to fight Evan Dunham at UFC 199, but pulled out with an injury. He is a close training partner of Interim Featherweight Champion Jose Aldo.
Adriano Martins has quietly become a very dangerous lightweight since joining the UFC in 2013. He entered the promotion with a 24-6 and on a five-fight win streak. He earned a “Submission of the Night” bonus in his UFC debut. Unfortunately for him, Martins was given a date with Donald Cerrone in his next bout and was defeated in the first round.
Since then, Martins is on a tear. The Brazilians has earned two knockouts and a decision victory over Rustam Khabilov. His most recent victory was a first-round knockout against Islam Makhachev at UFC 192. Martins has 13 knockouts in his 28 career victories and has earned performance bonuses in three of his four UFC victories.
