Jorge Santiago Celebrates Latest Win with Decision to Move Down to Welterweight
(mmaweekly.com)
In his last two fights, Santiago has gone 2-0 with stoppages in both bouts while competing in Titan Fighting Championships. His latest bout just last Friday, it took Santiago only 94 seconds to put away Justin Guthrie with a nasty inverted heel hook. The funny thing is, that’s not even something Santiago practices on even a semi-regular basis. Following a tough run in only two fights back in the UFC, Santiago is starting to breathe again and find new life with his team at the Blackzilians in Florida. As an original member of the camp, it took Santiago a little while to acclimate to the new team and new trainers, but he’s now found himself and the results are starting to show. “This is not the new, but the old Jorge Santiago from Japan. The old one, nothing else distracts me anymore, the only thing I have to do now is go out there and fight the way I like to fight, that’s it. Everything is getting more light for me, even the weight,” said Santiago. The weight comment holds an extra special meaning because following his last fight in Titan Fighting over the weekend, Santiago decided that he would be dropping down to 170lbs and testing the welterweight division.

Dana White in ‘Battle of Wills’ with Doctors Over Surgery for Meniere’s Disease
(mmaweekly.com)
Back in May, White missed the first UFC event of his career since Zuffa took over the organization when he was unable to attend UFC on Fuel TV 3 in Virginia. A few days after the event he was supposed to have surgery, but the doctors eventually decided to treat him with medication instead. Unfortunately, according to White only about 50-percent of patients with Meniere’s disease actually respond to the medication so he’s lobbying very hard to get the surgery instead. “It’s a battle of wills,” said White when appearing on HDNet’s Inside MMA, as he continues to seek surgery to hopefully curb the issues he’s having with Meniere’s disease.

Randy Couture Went About TRT ‘The Natural’ Way
(mmaweekly.com)
While performance enhancing drug use in sports is always a hot-button issue, none has been hotter recently than talk about testosterone replacement therapy (TRT) in mixed martial arts; well, except maybe the latest doping salvo launched at Lance Armstrong in cycling. But with high profile fighters such as Chael Sonnen, Frank Mir, Nate Marquardt, and others involved in the talk about TRT, and particularly in getting a therapeutic use exemption from athletic commissions for its use, it is the topic on nearly everyone’s lips. And the talk covers all aspects. Some say that if there is a proven deficiency that a fighter should be allowed to use TRT to bring his testosterone level up to what is considered normal. Others say that TRT should only be allowed for individuals that have a proven condition, not just a deficiency.

Dustin Pague Pulls a Chris Leben, Accepts Fight at UFC on FX 4 One Week After Last Bout
(mmaweekly.com)
Former Ultimate Fighter competitor Dustin Pague will look to make the ‘Chris Leben move’ when he steps into another fight just 2 weeks following his last fight in the Octagon. An injury to Francicso Rivera has opened up a spot on next weekend’s UFC on FX 4 card, so Pague has accepted the chance to face Ken Stone in Atlantic City. Pague follows in the footsteps of Chris Leben, who did almost the exact same thing when he was victorious in a bout against Aaron Simpson and then returned two weeks later to face Yoshihiro Akiyama. Leben went on to defeat Akiyama as well and Pague hopes for the same kind of success.

Mike Pierce Happy to Continue His Reign Over Brazilians in the UFC
(mmaweekly.com)
Mike Pierce has never been shy about asking for a fight. Following a win over Paul Bradley at the inaugural UFC on Fox show, he then called for a fight with former welterweight title contender Josh Koscheck, and he got it. Then Pierce asked to face a Brazilian fighter because it would be “an easy fight”, so UFC matchmaker Joe Silva handed him Carlos Eduardo Rocha, who had gone to a split decision with Jake Ellenberger in his last fight. Pierce beat Rocha soundly last weekend at UFC on FX 3, so with the chance to call out anybody he wanted after that fight the Oregon based fighter was a little more reserved. Just a little bit.

Finally Settled in the Octagon, Chris Camozzi Taking Aim at Nick Catone
(mmaweekly.com)
After suffering back-to-back losses in the UFC, Chris Camozzi was able to get back on track with a win over Dustin Jacoby in January. In the process, he was able to finally feel fully in synch with the promotion for the first time since debuting for them two years ago. “The fight got me back in the win column, obviously, but it’s just another step for me to becoming more comfortable in the Octagon,” he said. Camozzi told MMAWeekly.com that he feels that comfort level will continue when he fights again on June 22 at UFC on FX 4.

Champion Junior Dos Santos Calls for Random Drug Testing in the UFC
(cagepotato.com)
Between irresponsible TRT use and baseless speculation concerning the recent injury epidemic, the use of performance enhancing drugs in MMA has cast the sport in a rather negative light of late. So it’s a breath of fresh air to have a fighter not only come out against PED use, but to express a willingness to take part in more comprehensive drug tests. And it’s even better when that fighter is the current UFC heavyweight champion. In a recent press conference, Junior Dos Santos stated that he advocated random blood testing for his future fights for both himself and his opponents. “I am champion and never have used anything, and I am proud to say that. It is unfair to use substances. With or without authorization, it makes a difference. A fighter who can do this kind of treatment is not himself in the octagon and using tricks to improve [his] performance.” This is significant for three reasons. First, because Junior Dos Santos said it. It’s unlikely that Dana White will read this and retort “I would rather watch flys [sic] fuck,” as he did when Ben Askren accused White of not doing enough to prevent the use of PEDs. If your heavyweight champion wants something, especially when that something will contribute to the legitimacy of your sport, you’d do well to accommodate him.

Report: Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira Out Of UFC 149, Replaced by Shawn Jordan
(bloodyelbow.com)
According to sources close to the situation, Nogueira has not healed completely from the surgery he underwent to repair a broken humerus suffered in his UFC 141 defeat to Frank Mir. Due to lingering effects from that injury, "Minotauro" will be unable to face Frenchman heavyweight Cheick Kongo at the event, which takes place at the Scotiabank Saddledome in Calgary, Alberta. Taking the Brazilian's place against Kongo will be former Louisiana State football standout Shawn Jordan. Though the pairing has not been officially announced by the UFC, Sherdog.com confirmed on Saturday with sources close to the Jackson's MMA representative that Jordan has accepted the bout.

(mmanews.com)
The heavyweight additions continue for Bellator Fighting Championships as the promotion has added the undefeated Vitaly Minakov to the heavyweight ranks. Minakov joins Bellator fresh off a vicious knockout of Bellator veteran Eddie Sanchez, and is ready to take his talents stateside and compete with the world’s best fighters. “Becoming a Bellator fighter means that all my hard work in the gym and training has all paid off,” Minakov said. “It means myself and my entire team were working in the right direction, and we did everything right.” Undefeated at 8-0, the four-time World Sambo Champion boasts an outstanding ground game to complement a striking game that has earned the improving Minakov three knockout wins in his last four victories. A member of the RusFighters Sports Club headed by Alexei Zhernakov, Minakov is set to make his Bellator debut shortly and already has his sights set on a future Bellator Heavyweight Tournament.

Though sober, Drew Fickett says a loss tonight could result in homelessness
(mmajunkie.com)
Every fighter carries emotional baggage into the cage. Drew Fickett's, though, could stuff the hull of a 747. The veteran fighter, who's recently tried to bring stability to his infamously chaotic life, makes his 60th pro appearance at tonight's ShoFIGHT 20 event. He'll enter the cage with six weeks of sobriety, a new fight team behind him, and the real threat of homelessness if he doesn't get a victory. "I'm facing pressure in this fight, but I've been through so much in my life recently that honestly, I'm not nervous at all," Fickett told MMAjunkie.com Radio (www.mmajunkie.com/radio) earlier this week. "If I don't win this fight, I'm pretty much homeless." Fickett (42-17) meets jiu-jitsu ace Jonatas Novaes (9-4) tonight in a featured bout at ShoFIGHT 20, which takes place at O'Reilly Family Event Center in Springfield, Mo. The event airs via tape-delayed pay-per-view on July 1, though Canadian fans can watch it live on The Fight Network at 9 p.m. ET (6 p.m. PT).

Chute Boxe Owner Sues Anderson Silva for 'Damage to Reputation'
(fightersonlymag.com)
Anderson Silva's autobiography was supposed to be a landmark in Brazil’s mixed martial arts history but actually, the book has become pain the neck for the Ultimate Fighting Championship middleweight champion. First, The Spider created controversy with an anecdote about returning with a gun to look for former coach Rafael Cordeiro after an earlier argument ended up with Anderson taking a slap in the face. Then Jose ‘Pele’ Landi-Jons also made strong comments last week when he read a section which accused him of deliberately driving through a puddle to spray road water all over Anderson and his daughter...

Rafael 'Feijao' Cavalcante Tests Positive for Banned Substance Following Mike Kyle Win
(mmafighting.com)
Strikeforce light heavyweight Rafael "Feijao" Cavalcante tested positive for a banned substance following his win over Mike Kyle last month in San Jose, Calif. The California State Athletic Commission executive officer George Dodd confirmed the news with MMAFighting.com on Friday. Boxing reporter Gabriel Montoya first reported the news on Twitter. As a result, Cavalcante has been suspended for one year and fined $2,500 by the CSAC. Dodd refused to disclose which banned substance Cavalcante tested positive for because he was not at his office when contacted by MMAFighting.com. He said the CSAC sent Cavalcante a letter earlier this week informing him of the failed test but they have yet to hear back from him.
