Andrew Holbrook in for Erik Koch against Ramsey Nijem at UFC on FOX 16
(mmajunkie.com)
Ramsey Nijem has a new opponent for UFC on FOX 16 after Erik Koch was forced out of their lightweight contest. Indiana’s Andrew Holbrook (9-0 MMA, 0-0 UFC) has stepped in to face Nijem (9-5 MMA, 5-4 UFC) on slightly less than a month’s notice. The change was announced on the UFC’s official website today. UFC on FOX 16 takes place July 25 at United Center in Chicago. The main card airs on FOX following prelims on FOX Sports 1 and UFC Fight Pass. In the main event, bantamweight champion T.J. Dillashaw rematches Renan Barao in a title fight that was supposed to happen this week at UFC 186 before a Dillashaw injury forced the delay.

Hector Lombard gets submitted inside 2 minutes at the BJJ event in Atlanta
(bloodyelbow.com)
(sorry this is off topic from MMA, thought I would share since Lombard has been suspended from the UFC) Following his dominant win at UFC 182, Hector Lombard's UFC title aspirations came to an abrupt halt when he tested positive for designer steroid desoxymethyltestosterone in a post-fight screening. Not content to sit out the 1 year ban issued by the NAC, Lombard made a decision to compete at the highest level in the world of submission grappling, accepting an invitation to compete at the illustrious ADCC 2015 in Brazil. Over the weekend, Lombard entered the first of his planned ADCC warm-up tournaments and things didn't go to plan for the Judo Olympian. (Courtesy of on Twitter)

Former UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones will not go before a grand jury on an alleged hit-and-run just yet, but prosecutors expect to move forward on his case. The prosecutor in charge of the ex-titleholder’s case lacks two key pieces of evidence to move forward: medical records for the accident’s alleged victim and dispatch reports from the Albuquerque Police Department, according to the public information officer for the Bernalillo County (N.M.) District Attorney.

MMA in New York? Again, the answer seems to be no
(mmajunkie.com)
Yet again, a bill to legalize MMA in New York state appears to be sunk before reaching a vote in the state’s assembly. The bill’s sponsor, Democratic Assembly Leader Joseph Morelle, today told Politics on the Hudson that, despite encouraging signals and a final push from MMA supporters, the votes aren’t there. After this year’s session was extended to vote on several high-profile bills, Morelle said the MMA bill lost momentum as legislators ran out of time. “A number of members who are counted as supporters were just unavailable today because of the scheduling, that we weren’t expected to be here this long,” he said, “and it’s really complicated efforts to get to 76 (votes). I think it’s looking less likely as the day wears on.” MMAjunkie was unable to reach Morelle or his spokesperson for an update. Seventy-six is the figure needed to get the assembly bill, A02604C, out of the 105-member Democratic conference and onto the assembly floor, where there is strong support among minority Republicans to legalize MMA. In the Republican-led senate, earlier MMA bills have passed in six previous legislative sessions. UFC Vice President of Regulatory Affairs Marc Ratner estimated this year’s MMA bill, which reportedly received more support after additional insurance safeguards were added, would receive 95 to 100 votes if it went to a general vote. But without the Democrats’ support, the bill is destined to expire in the assembly’s Tourism, Parks, Arts and Sports Development Committee, as it has for more than a half-decade.
