Phil Baroni vs Scott Jansen Cage Rage main event set for July 12
We reported earlier this week here on MMAmania.com that Phil “The New York Badass” Baroni (10-10) was moving down to the welterweight division for the first time ever and would compete on the Cage Rage: “Step Up” card on July 12.
Today, his opponent, Scott Jansen (3-2), was revealed. In addition, the 170-pound fight will be featured as the main event of the evening.
Jansen is a hometown English-born fighter who has competed mostly in the Cage Rage “Contenders” shows. He should make for an exciting match up for Baroni because he’s never gone the distance. And all three of his wins have come via technical knockouts and his two losses are by submissions.
Clearly, Jansen prefers to stand and bang it out with his opponents and has some work to do on his submission defense. I doubt he’ll have to worry too much about defending submissions in this fight, however, because Baroni isn’t known to be much of a jiu-jitsu afficionado himself.

Rodrigo Comprido Speaks On Brock Lesnar
GRACIEMAG.com: A lot of people think he doesn't know any ground fighting. What's your assessment of his Jiu-Jitsu level and how far do you intend to go with him?
Comprido: The guy's a world class wrestler, US champion. It's impossible that he doesn't know anything about fighting on the ground. He has a really good base, and he positions himself well. The guy is always open to learning new things, or in other words, he's the student every teacher wishes they had. Of course there are things to improve and I hope to help him with the Jiu-Jitsu part. Sooner or later he'll have to face Rodrigo Minotauro, who's the best MMA fighter I've ever seen fight. But he's focused on his next fight and is not thinking about that yet. I'm aware of the fact that he's way above average and that I can help him conquer the UFC belt or that of any other event he wishes to compete in.
GRACIEMAG.com: A lot is said, as well, about his absurd strength and optimal physical conditioning. Is he really that strong, well prepared and so good a wrestler?
Comprido: His strength really is extraordinary, he's by far the strongest guy I've ever coached. But he's so aware of that that during training he uses very little strength (which is more than enough). [laughs] Not just anybody becomes wrestling champion of the United States. I think few in MMA wouldn't get taken down by him in seconds.

Evan Tanner: Health Could Force Immediate Retirement
It seems that even though Evan Tanner lost a supposed loser leaves town fight to Kendall Grove at the TUF 7 Finale, he won't be leaving UFC because of the loss, but rather due to what he calls some "serious health problems for a while now". Tanner says if he can't get it figured out, he's retiring.
The House That Hazelett's Submissions Built
It turns out that Dustin Hazelett wasn't just fighting for a victory against Josh Burkman at the TUF 7 Finale. He was also fighting for money-the bonuses he earned for his submission victory and Fight Of The Night helped Hazelett get that much closer to buying a house he's had his eyes on and needed the money for.

Rampage heard Wandy KO’d Griffin in training
I wasnt able to sit down with Rampage Jackson for a typical fighter interview but instead I went to work as usual on a Tuesday night and after being there for about an hour my other co worker walks in and informs me that Quinton Rampage Jackson is coming to my work to meet up with some of my co workers friends to take pictures of his Audi R8 for Dub magazine. So literally the whole time they were taking pictures of Rampage’s R8 he was chiling with me in the back of my store just talking about random MMA information. I cant post the conversation word for word because I did not record it or write it down but im going to try and paraphrase it for all of you as best as i can.
