A Sketchy Drug Test Didn’t Stop Vitor Belfort From Fighting At UFC 152
Just more than 24 hours ahead of their Memorial Day fight this year, UFC middleweight champion Chris Weidman stepped up to his opponent, Vitor Belfort, in public, ready to accuse him of cheating. At a weigh-in inside the MGM Grand Garden Arena, Belfort, 38, disrobed to boos. A densely muscled frame had helped him savage foes as far back as 1996, when at the age of 19 he debuted in mixed martial arts by bouncing super-heavyweight John Hess’s head off the canvas like a basketball to score a 12-second victory. From that day forward, people were drawn to his athleticism, his dynamic finishing ability, and his physique, the latter of which would be augmented over the years with performance-enhancing drugs. Additional Reading: It's almost 3 years ago to the day since Vitor Belfort stepped up on short notice to fight Jon Jones for the UFC light heavyweight title at UFC 152 in Toronto. Belfort nearly submitted Jones with an armbar in the 1st round, then proceeded to get shellacked until he tapped out to an Americana in round 4. Belfort has been the subject of heavy scrutiny and multiple controversies concerning his TRT use and drug testing results, and we have another chapter to add to the book. In a special investigation penned by Josh Gross and published on Deadspin, Belfort had actually tested positive for elevated testosterone in the state of Nevada just under three weeks before fight night in Ontario.

WSOF suspends Vagab Vagabov for five months following post-fight infraction
While he picked up a win at this past weekend’s WSOF 23 event, undefeated middleweight prospect Vagab Vagabov will be sidelined for five months for losing his cool after his victory over Brian Grinnell. WSOF Executive Vice President and matchmaker Ali Abdelaziz today told MMAjunkie that the promotion issued the sanctions because Vagabov clearly struck Grinnell multiple times after referee Al Guinee waved off the pair’s preliminary contest in the second round. “I spoke with Vagab and his team, and they were very apologetic for his actions,” Abdelaziz said. “Vagab got caught up in the moment and expressed remorse for his mistake, but as a company, we simply cannot let moments like this go without addressing them directly. “We hope this penalty sends a strong message to everyone on our roster that such infractions simply will not be tolerated.”

Following the MMA-kickboxing “Dynamite” event, which aired on Spike from San Jose’s SAP Center, Bellator President Scott Coker said the two 205-pounders will likely meet in early 2016.

MacDonald vs. Lombard being discussed for 2016
A bout that was originally scheduled for UFC 186 might be something the UFC goes back to. According to the crew at UFC Tonight, the promotion is still interested in booking a welterweight bout between recent title challenger Rory MacDonald and Hector Lombard. April's pay-per-view in Montreal was supposed to be headlined by a welterweight bout between MacDonald and Lombard, but the bout was scrapped when Lombard tested positive for steroids. MacDonald was then moved into a title fight with Robbie Lawler in July. He was stopped in the fifth round of a bout he was winning, and ended up with the face you see in the image about as a result of the bout.

Matt Mitrione calls out UFC VP Matt Hughes following Nick Diaz tweet
Matt Mitrione is willing to call out fellow fighters – even if he now technically works for them. The brouhaha began Thursday after a strange week in the regulatory world. Hughes, a former and longtime UFC welterweight champion, quit fighting in 2011 and officially announced his retirement in 2013. He was then named the UFC’s vice president of athlete development and government relations, though the title seems largely ceremonious.
