Healy Shocks Ford, Wins MFC Title
(mmaontap.com)
Longtime veteran Pat Healy’s experience came in handy tonight as he overcame an extremely rough start against rising prospect Ryan Ford to surprisingly submit Ford with a third-round armbar in the main event of Maximum Fighting Championship’s latest showing at the River Cree Resort and Casino in Edmonton. The first round saw Ford fight for a successful takedown during the beginning moments. Pinning Healy in the corner, Ford worked some ground-and-pound before Healy was able to force a scramble. Healy nearly caught Ford with an armbar but Ford was able to slip out and stand up before slamming Healy down once again just before the round’s end.

IFL champ Jay Hieron waiting through IFL's possible final days
(mmajunkie.com)
UFC veteran and current IFL welterweight champion Jay Hieron (15-4) has been forced to watch from the sidelines as several of his fellow IFL fighters have found new homes in other organizations. But with the IFL's future still up in the air, Hieron has targeted a late 2008 return to action. Hieron, who could soon become one of the sport's top free agents, discussed his contract status while a guest on TAGG Radio (www.taggradio.com), the official radio partner of MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com). "I'm under contract with [the IFL]," Hieron said. "I'm waiting to hear something. It is what it is with this stuff. That's part of the game."

It only takes one: UFC 89 interview with Chris Leben
(mmamania.com)
Chris Leben falls into a very unique category in the world of mixed martial arts. He’s one of the few fighters in the sport today who it seems every fan has an opinion of. Whether they love him or hate him, “The Crippler” always comes ready to scrap. He’s got brick fists, and he can take a punch like you’re not even trying. Leben holds notable wins over Patrick Cote, Luigi Fioravanti, Terry Martin and most recently Alessio Sakara, and he’s the only man who’s ever KO’d Mike Swick. And now he’s headlining a major UFC event against another solid striker: Michael “The Count” Bisping. Leben (18-4) and Bisping (16-1) will go toe-to-toe at UFC 89 on October 18 at the National Indoor Arena (NIA) in Birmingham, England.

JAKE SHIELDS FINALLY GETS HIS TITLE SHOT
(mmaweekly.com)
Jake Shields has been considered one of the world’s best 170-pound fighters for the last few years. He is perhaps the best welterweight not currently fighting in the Ultimate Fighting Championship. Shields, the MMAWeekly No. 7 ranked welterweight in the world, will be fighting for the vacant EliteXC crown against Nick Thompson this Saturday night. Shields recently joined MMAWeekly Radio to discuss his preparation for his upcoming bout. “Training is going great,” said Shields. “I'm peaking out perfectly. I'm ready to fight. I haven't fought in way too long. Almost nine months. I'm super excited. I think Nick Thompson is a good opponent and I'm excited to be fighting on CBS as well.”

BJ Vs GSP - ''Battle Of The Weight Divisions'' December 27, 2008!!!
(bloodyelbow.com)
Dana White has confirmed on multiple occasions now that he intends to have BJ Penn and Georges St. Pierre fight each other if St. Pierre beats Jon Fitch at UFC 87. However, it's never been clear if Dana was willing to let BJ Penn hold two titles at once. There are obvious problems with that sitiuation, the primary one being that with one guy holding both, each belt could only be defended once or twice a year. This is not confirmed, but a fan over at The Underground says that BJ Penn was on a Hawaiian TV station and spoke about the fight: they will be fighting this december 27.(source is bj penn his self on hawaii local news) the fight will not be a title fight but its going to be announced as "battle of the weight divisions". if all goes to plan hopefully gsp will still be holding the ww title after they fight in december and bj will move up and fight gsp in hawaii for the ww belt. The only reason I'm willing to buy this is that it gives them an opportunity to do a meaningful rubber match if Penn wins. The downside is that the "battle of the weight divisions" will probably only be a 3 round fight.

Gerald Haris: "Rampage is doing good"
(fighthype.com)
Rampage is pretty much focusing on the bible and getting his life back together. The first thing that came to my mind was the kids man. He's got 4 kids. Everybody else was concerned about was he going to fight again or is he losing sponsors; damn that," stated MMA middleweight Gerald Harris as he gave an update on his good friend Quinton "Rampage" Jackson. Check out what else he had to say as he talked about his own future plans and much more

Shogun Fighting Coleman In December
(fightersonlymagazine.co.uk)
Mauricio ‘Shogun‘ Rua may be getting a long-awaited rematch with Mark Coleman in December, according to a recent interview. The Brazilian light-heavyweight said that the UFC had mentioned the bout to his management but nothing has been signed yet. “I might face Mark Coleman on December, but nothing has been signed yet. He wanted to face me on November, and I really want to face him,” Rua told Tatame magazine. “I hope this time he doesn’t run from me. He said no to me a couple of times, but I believe now it will happen.”

Dana Pulls Out The “Special Announcement” Card on Elite XC
(promma.info)
Dana White is in the fight business. Fighting is in this man’s blood. That competitive spirit has enabled him to build the UFC into the great success story that it is today. There’s no way he’s going to let another MMA promotion walk into this game and just take away what has taken him years of blood, lawsuits, and friendships to build. White’s competitive nature was at no time more apparent than on July 19th when on short notice, the UFC cooked up a free Fight Night to air on Spike TV to counteract the Affliction: Banned event. Exactly one week later, another one of the UFC’s competitors, Elite XC will be holding their second event on CBS during prime time. Their first event, as far as number of viewers is concerned, was a huge success and featured Kimbo Slice. This Saturday, July 26, Robbie Lawler will defend his title in a rematch with Scott Smith. While the UFC is not holding a live event to compete with CBS Saturday Night Fights, they are replaying for the very first time on television UFC 84 Ill Will, featuring the lightweight title fight between Sean Sherk and B.J. Penn. Other fights on that card are Tito Ortiz vs. Lyoto Machida and Wanderlei Silva vs. Keith Jardine. So as you can see, it’s a stacked card that many UFC fans will definitely tune into, especially if they missed it on Pay-Per-View back in May.

Despite Rumors, GSP Not Planning To Leave UFC
(mmaweekly.com)
There has been speculation over the last several months that UFC Welterweight Champion Georges St. Pierre will go elsewhere when his contract is up (he has 2 fights left). But on MMAWeekly's radio show last night, GSP said there are no plans to leave UFC for other places, including Affliction (his main sponsor), and he hopes to even finish his career in UFC.

Colin Robinson On The Road Back To The UFC
(fightersonlymagazine.co.uk)
As a successful amateur boxer who had competed at international level, Northern Ireland heavyweight Colin Robinson thought martial arts were ineffectual outside of Hollywood blockbusters and Bruce Lee films. So when a friend invited him to train at his mixed martial arts gym one evening, he was expecting an easy time of it. “Back in the day boxing was the ultimate combat sport and that is what attracted me to it,” says the genial Ulsterman, “In my opinion, martial arts didn’t work.” “I came to the gym one day just to show them all how it was done - and the coach tied me in a knot and left me in the corner! “I can remember thinking ‘My god, what is this all about? He is not supposed to be able to do that!’” The experience was a Damascus moment for Robinson, who had never previously considered venturing outside the square circle: “I thought, I have got to learn this, this is great.”

EILERS GETS SECOND CHANCE IN ELITE XC
(mmaweekly.com)
At one time, Justin Eilers was considered a great future prospect in the Ultimate Fighting Championship heavyweight division. Having amassed a solid record previous to joining the company, he won his debut in impressive fashion over Mike Kyle at UFC 49 in comeback fashion after being rocked early in the fight. Things seemed to be heading Eilers’ way. That’s where things hit a snag. Over the course of the coming year and a half, Eilers lost three fights in a row, including a devastating defeat to then UFC heavyweight champ Andrei Arlovski.

MISTAKES PAST, SCOTT SMITH READY FOR ROUND 2
(mmaweekly.com)
No one in the sport of mixed martial arts can ever question the heart, determination or perseverance of current EliteXC middleweight fighter Scott Smith for his constant effort to stay in and win a fight. During his time with the Ultimate Fighting Championship, he was involved in one of the most memorable knockouts in the promotion’s history during a bout with former “Ultimate Fighter” housemate Pete Sell. As Sell landed a thunderous body shot that seemed to crumble his opponent, Smith jumped up with a huge punch that sent Sell crashing to the canvas. After following up with another shot before the referee stopped the fight, Smith instantly fell down in the cage, still feeling the effects of the punch he endured before unloading his own fight finishing shot to his opponent.

Frank Edgar Interview
(fightline.com)
Today I had the honor of talking with UFC rising star Frank "The Answer" Edgar about his recent win over Hermes Franca, his $25,000 fight-of-the-night bonus, and even a little politics. The 26 year-old Edgar boasts a 9-1 record including a notable win over Spencer Fisher and he is the only man to have ever defeated Tyson Griffin. Edgar brings a smothering ground game to the cage and with his extensive wrestling background, Edgar is a tall order for any of the UFC's lightweight division fighters. Here's what was said:

Exclusive Interview: Nick Diaz
(cagepotato.com)
When we last saw Nick Diaz, he was whipping Muhsin Corbbrey at EliteXC: The Return of the King, and advising KJ Noons not to be frightened. Diaz gets back into the cage this Saturday at the second installment of EliteXC’s “Saturday Night Fights” (CBS, 9 p.m. ET/PT), and while he won’t be settling his grudge with Noons, he’ll be facing the very tough Thomas Denny in front of a rabid hometown crowd at the Stockton Arena. The always outspoken Cesar Gracie-trained fighter recently chatted with us about the origins of his bad attitude, why MMA fights should be held in a ring, and why steroids should be legal. Real good interview with Nick Diaz........
