Coach Mark Henry wants Frankie Edgar to take shortest route to UFC title, ‘whether it be 135 or 145'
Frankie Edgar's pursuit of a second UFC belt hit a snag last month at UFC 200.
After years of working towards another title shot, Edgar saw opportunity slip through his fingers when he dropped a decision to Jose Aldo in an interim title bout that effectively decided the next man to fight UFC featherweight champion Conor McGregor. The loss snapped a five-fight win streak for Edgar and left his head coach, Mark Henry, dismayed at losing out on a chance to make history.
"He was right there for the belt," Henry said Monday on The MMA Hour. "As soon as that fight ended, it was one of the biggest fights in my head that I could remember where right when the fight ended there was like 10 things or 15 things that went through my head -- should've done this, should've done that, should've called this, should've called that -- that would've worked, that Frankie would've done.

Gillespie, 29, won the vacant Ring of Combat lightweight title in his fifth career bout in June 2015, and successfully defended it twice more before making the jump to the UFC.
Gillespie will be thrown into the fire in his first bout against Silva, who is 9-1 in his professional career with a 2-0 mark in the UFC.

The KAC learned of the results Aug. 3, and Guillard’s suspension will be applied retroactively to July 22. All fighters licensed by the KAC are subject to random drug testing and must follow the world anti-doping (WADA) code.

Rizin announces both mother, son competing on Sept. 25 show
In what looks to be a first-time ever occurrence in a major MMA promotion, both a mother and her son will be competing on the same stage next month.
Rizin announced on Monday that Miyu Yamamoto, 41, a three-time world champion in women's freestyle wrestling, would make her MMA debut on their Sept. 25 show at the Saitama Super Arena.
Her son, Asen Yamamoto (0-1), 19, will face Kizaemon Saiga, on the same show. Yamamoto lost his pro debut on New Year's Eve's Rizin show to Kron Gracie, the son of Rickson Gracie. Asen Yamamoto was an age group wold champion at 17 under the name Asen Sasaki.
Both are members of Japan's "royal family" of wrestling, with patriarch Ikuei Yamamoto, who competed for Japan in the 1972 Olympics. Miyu Yamamoto was well known in Japan in the 90s because of her looks and being the daughter of the former Olympian, particularly after capturing a world championship at the age of 17 in 1991. In 1994, she did a freestyle wrestling match at the biggest women's pro wrestling event in history at the Tokyo Dome before 32,500 fans. She later won world championships in 1994 and 1995.
