Jared Gordon out of UFC 211 with food poisoning
(mixedmartialarts.com)
Jared Gordon faced a terribly difficult road to UFC 211. He became addicted to pain killers at 19, was taking heroin at 21 (it costs less), was in lock up at 22, and homeless begging on the streets of New York at 23. There’s more, too. And now shortly before weigh-ins, he was forced to pull out of his fight with Michel Quinones. Gordon himself made the announcement via social media.

Jose Aldo gets stitches after sparring session, guarantees UFC 212 title fight is still on
(bloodyelbow.com)
Another one of the well-known Nova Uniao sparring sessions left Jose Aldo with a cut on the top of his head, which he needed to patch up with no more than five stitches. As alarming as that sounds, especially with a title unification bout against Max Holloway less than a month away, Aldo guarantees the fight is still happening as scheduled. "This is a normal cut. I've fought with my eyebrow stitched up, once. This one is on the top of my head. It's a sign of victory." Aldo told Combate. "I was sparring last week, I went for a double leg and there was a clash of heads. I'm training as usual. The placement of the cut doesn't hinder me in any way. It's cool. I got five stitches.

Penne first UFC flagged for test following ABP review
(mixedmartialarts.com)
In addition to direct blood and urine anti-doping tests, UFC fighters are also subject to indirect testing via an Athlete Biological Passport (ABP). This is an individual record of selected biological parameters collated over a period of time. Doping violations are detected not by testing for and identifying illegal substances, but rather by noting variances from an athlete’s established levels outside permissible limits. This data can be an indication of doping in and of itself, or can be the basis for further, targeted anti-doping tests.

Dana White Confirms TUF 26 Will Crown Women’s Flyweight Champion
(mmaweekly.com)
After a recent false start, UFC president Dana White on Tuesday confirmed that the next season of The Ultimate Fighter will, in fact, launch the women’s 125-pound weight class and crown its first champion. The UFC issued a press release stating as much last week, announcing open tryouts for women in the 125-pound weight class, including fighters currently on the UFC’s roster. Just as quickly, however, the promotion stated that the press release was released prematurely. White on Tuesday confirmed to ESPNW that the promotion was moving forward with the idea.

Luke Rockhold encourages fellow middleweights to stand ground, tell UFC 'f*ck you'
(mmafighting.com)
Luke Rockhold has lost just once in the last four years, and yet he’s nowhere near a title shot. That’s because the man who beat him 11 months ago, Michael Bisping, is waiting for his next challenge in the form of Georges St-Pierre, and that fight isn’t expected to take place until sometime after October. Needless to say, the former champion Rockhold — who lost the title to Bisping at UFC 199 last June — doesn’t know his current bearings, especially with Yoel Romero sitting idly as the No. 1 contender and Robert Whittaker fast-emerging behind him.

(mmaweekly.com)
Although UFC president Dana White has been fairly consistent in saying that a boxing match between Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor isn’t even close to being signed, on Saturday night, he admitted that they did have a target date for the fight… until Canelo Alvarez and Gennady Golovkin took it.

Cruz: DJ would do ‘great’ against Garbrandt and Dillashaw
(mmafighting.com)
For now, the top of the UFC bantamweight division appears to be a three-horse race between current UFC champion Cody Garbrandt, the man challenging for the title next, T.J. Dillashaw, and the man with the most decorated reign in the division’s history, Dominick Cruz. But a fourth horse could soon enter the race in the form of Demetrious Johnson, the reigning flyweight king who sits only one title defense away from breaking the coveted UFC record held by Anderson Silva, and has talked extensively in the past about moving up to 135 pounds for a superfight once that record is his. As the only person in that quartet to have fought the other three members, that gives Cruz a unique perspective on Johnson’s chances against the best that bantamweight has to offer. And Cruz thinks “Mighty Mouse” would do just fine if he ever decides to make the move.

Gastelum win over Belfort overturned, plus 90-day suspension
(mixedmartialarts.com)
The UFC’s independent drug testing agency does not test for recreational drugs outside of competition. However, recreational drugs including marijuana are tested for in-competition. Alcohol is treated in a similar fashion – you are not tested for alcohol out of competition, but are prohibited from fighting while drunk. Mandatory Guidelines for Federal Workplace Drug Testing Programs have a cutoff of 50 ng/ML. World Anti-Doping Agency has a threshold of 150 ng/ML. USADA uses 180 ng/ML. UFC fighter Kelvin Gastelum tested positive above that level at UFC Fight Night 106: Belfort vs. Gastelum on March 11 in Fortaleza, Brazil. Gastelum was then removed from a scheduled fight with Anderson Silva at UFC 212 on June 3, 2017 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

USADA suspends UFC’s Ricardo Abreu for four years after second anti-doping violation
(mmafighting.com)
As expected, Ricardo Abreu won’t be fighting in the UFC any time soon. Or, more likely, ever again. The middleweight fighter was suspended for four years by USADA after failing a drug test while serving a previous USADA suspension for a positive test, it was announced by the UFC’s anti-doping partner Friday. The second anti-doping policy violation resulted in the sanction length being doubled. Abreu, 33, tested positive for nandrolone metabolites and other 19-norsteroids stemming from a sample collected Dec. 21, 2016. The non-natural origin of the agent was confirmed by carbon isotope-ratio analysis, per the USADA release. The substances Abreu tested positive for fall under the anabolic agents category in the UFC’s anti-doping policy.
