Charles 'Krazy Horse' Bennett arrested ... yet again
Controversial lightweight fighter Charles Bennett (22-16-2) has run afoul of the law once again -- he was arrested for felony aggravated battery on Monday (Jan. 18), according to Sherdog.com.Bennett was taken into custody at the FIT NHB gym where he trains and booked at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Bernalillo County, New Mexico.
Firas Zahabi Is Trying to Recruit Gegard Mousasi as a Sparring Partner For GSP
As UFC welterweight champ Georges St. Pierre puts on more weight and continues to dominate every 170-pounder in his path, finding sparring partners who can push him is apparently becoming more of a problem. In a talk with Heavy.com, Tristar Gym owner and longtime GSP trainer Firas Zahabi says that he can't even put him up against other fighters his own size in training anymore, adding "It's getting scary. Georges is getting better and better, believe it or not."
Lift The Ban Watch: New York To Try Legalizing MMA Again?
It appears MMA legalization will get another chance in New York this upcoming year, as the state budget proposal from NY governor David Patterson reportedly includes a proposal to legalize MMA in the state. The state of New York is currently $7 billion in the hole, and the belief is that major MMA events could bring in between $10 million-$15 million per event.
Lashley Not Facing Ambriz At SF Miami
Despite the FSBC approving the fight after the original fight was not approved, Strikeforce has announced Bobby Lashley will not face Jimmy Ambriz on 1/30. Ambriz was considered as a replacement opponent after original foe Yohan Banks was not approved by the FSBC.
Spike TV brings back "UFC Primetime" series for GSP vs. Hardy
In anticipation of their UFC 111 main-event fight, UFC welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre and challenger Dan Hardy will be featured in Spike TV's three-part "UFC Primetime" special. The series debuts Wednesday, March 10, at 10 p.m. ET/PT. Subsequent episodes air in the timeslot on March 17 and March 24. UFC 111 takes place March 27 at the Prudential Center in Newark, N.J., and airs on pay-per-view. Different from the UFC's traditional "Countdown" shows, "UFC Primetime" goes more in depth and focuses on some of the biggest fights of the year. One popular "Primetime" special, for example, focused on the highly anticipated second meeting between St-Pierre and B.J. Penn, which took place at UFC 94 in January 2009. The UFC 111 special follows Hardy as he prepares for his bout in his home country of England. The cameras also focus on St-Pierre has he holds his fight camp in Canada and the U.S.
