Anderson Silva Not Close to Retirement
(mmaweekly.com)
Speculation ran wild just over a year ago when UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva talked about his possible retirement from the sport. It looks like that talk has subsided and the Brazilian is focused on the biggest fights out there for him. He's not planning on going anywhere, any time soon. With a fight against Vitor Belfort on the horizon, Silva is committed to defending his middleweight title in April. Afterwards the future is bright for the champ, but undetermined as to what weight class he'll be competing in. Silva's manager, Ed Soares, spoke to MMAWeekly Radio this week and commented about his client's future in the UFC.

Condit, who in 2009 moved back to his home city of Albuquerque, N.M., to train with Greg Jackson, was forced to withdraw from a bout with Paul Daley at UFC 108 on Jan. 2 and has been virtually inactive since the injury occurred, save for running and kicking the heavy bag. "It's been a bitch being out, man," Condit told MMAjunkie.com (wwww.mmajunkie.com). "I'm looking forward to getting my momentum going again."

Marquardt : ST. Pierre will Destroy Hardy

Given he's a friend and training partner of Georges St-Pierre, middleweight Nate (The Great) Marquardt may not be the most objective judge of GSP's next title challenger. But Marquardt isn't expecting much of English welterweight Dan (The Outlaw) Hardy. "I think Georges is going to kill him," Marquardt told The Canadian Press on Friday.

Mike Swick Weighs In on Herschel Walker, Dan Hardy
(cagepotato.com)
"The thing about this sport is, there are so many variables that go into it. He did beat me. And if I would have won then I would have been the No. 1 contender, so you can look at it that way. But just because he won that fight, I don't think that means he deserves a title shot. He's only had three fights in the UFC and he's only had one finish. He hasn't had the same road that a lot of the top welterweights in the UFC have. Even though he beat me, I have to say he doesn't deserve it. If he thinks he does, I'm sorry, but he's wrong." p.s. stop cryin already Swick..i'm starting not to like this guy for more than just this reason...

UFC Quick Quote: Jon Fitch can't be denied St. Pierre rematch
(mmamania.com)
"If I stop [Thiago Alves], I don't see how they could deny me a shot at GSP. At that point I would have stopped someone twice who GSP couldn't finish in five rounds, so I think that's a very strong argument for me to get a title shot. We're both fighting for another crack at GSP, so we both have something big that we want. Mentally, he's matured a great deal in that time period. He was pretty young when we fought.... His wrestling defense is much better and he's harder to take down. He's stronger and I think he's matured physically. Maybe he's a little bit slower. We'll see ... I'm a much better athlete than I was a couple years ago. I'm a much improved fighter from when I first fought, and so is he."

Sonnen Blasts Silva, Champ's Manager Fires Back
(mmaweekly.com)
"You want me to let you in on a secret, Anderson Silva speaks perfect English. He just has such a low amount of respect for you and all the rest of the media that he pretends he doesn't. I've had conversations with Anderson Silva in perfect English, and on top of that he's so boring to listen to that he and his rocket scientist manager, Ed Soares, who is also about as exciting as watching grass grow, have decided that Ed is better on the mic than Anderson, so just let Ed do the talking."

TUF 11 To Feature 28 Fighters, New Format
(mmajunkie.com)
Straying from the normal format and surely likely to cause more than a few head scratches, Ultimate Fighting Championship and Spike TV officials today confirmed that the upcoming 11th season of "The Ultimate Fighter" will feature 28 middleweight fighters. The show traditionally features 16 or 32 competitors because of its single-elimination tournament format, though officials promise a "new format" that will be revealed during the show's March 31 debut. Spike TV officials, though, said the details of the format change will be kept under wraps until the March 31 debut. Production on the new season began today.

Bobby Lashely vs. UFC vet Wes Sims (finally) set for "Strikeforce: Miami"
(mmajunkie.com)
A rumored bout between heavyweights Wes Sims (22-12-1 MMA, 0-0 SF) and Bobby Lashley (4-0 MMA, 0-0 SF) finally has materialized for next week's "Strikeforce: Miami" card, sources close to the event today confirmed with MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com). Sims has been tapped as a final replacement to face the part-time pro wrestler after two opponents fell by the wayside. Lashley, who on Tuesday told MMAjunkie.com he was still training hard for an unnamed opponent, will have a little more than a week to prepare for the 6-foot-10 Sims. "Strikeforce: Miami" takes place Jan. 30 at the BankAtlantic Center in Sunrise, Fla., and airs on Showtime. maynard Understands Edgar Getting Title Shot
(mmaweekly.com)
It seemed like a title shot was looming on the horizon when Gray Maynard stepped into the Octagon with Nate Diaz last week. When the fight was over Maynard came away with a split decision victory, but the title shot went to Frankie Edgar instead. While nothing was ever guaranteed, Maynard does hold a victory over Edgar and the cards all seemed in place for him to get the shot. To hear the Las Vegas based fighter tell it though, more factors played into the decision than just records and who beat who.

Soares says Silva is Willing to Take on GSP after 112
(tsn.ca)
Anderson "The Spider" Silva remains undefeated in his UFC career. His ten-fight winning streak is the longest in UFC history, putting his name in every conversation about the world's best pound-for-pound fighter. The current middleweight champion has been so dominant since joining the UFC in 2006 that he may need to venture outside of his weight class to find a challenge, something his manager Ed Soares claims he is more than willing to do.
