Fedor Emelianenko: Fight was even until I knocked Arlovski out
For a brief moment during Saturday's "Affliction: Day of Reckoning" main event in Anaheim, Calif., Fedor Emelianenko (29-1) looked almost human. Apparently frustrated by the effective striking, long reach and rapid speed of challenger Andrei Arlovski (14-6), Emelianenko looked wounded in the corner, and "The Pitbull" smelled blood. Then suddenly, and with little warning, a crushing right hand flattened Arlovski and immediately returned Emelianenko's mystique. During the post-event press conference, the Russian champion said that despite appearances, he was firmly in control throughout the 194 seconds he needed to destroy the world's second-best heavyweight.

Tito Ortiz wants to see Vitor Belfor fight Anderson Silva
“Wow! That’s all I got to say. Vitor at 185 pounds. I don’t know. I see him beating the, uh, what was it, Anderson Silva. I see him picking him apart because you have two great boxers, and, man, that was amazing. That was the old Vitor Belfort that we all want to see. Him at 131 years old. He’s back for vengeance.”

Larry Merchant claims Affliction paid Oscar De La Hoya $5 million …
… to attend and help promote “Day of Reckoning” — a venture that his Golden Boy Promotions backed — rather than sit ringside at a big boxing match that aired on HBO that same night. Here’s the Merchant rant via MMA Insider Blog: “A celebrity who is here in bronze only [referring to a bronze statue of Oscar De La Hoya that stands outside the Staples Center]. Oscar De La Hoya, the live version, is in nearby Anaheim, where his company got a $5 million fee from a t-shirt maker so that he would be personally involved the promotion of a mixed martial arts show.It would take that much, Jim, to get me to go to one of those things.”

Affliction 2 Fighter Payouts, Attendance
The CSAC has released the disclosed fighter payouts from last night's Affliction 2 event. The total disclosed payouts were $3,308,000 with the lion's share-$1,500,000-going to main event loser Andrei Arlovski. That figure does not include a bonus going to Fedor, rumored to be over $1 million. Affliction claimed a live gate of 13,228 paid, but that has not been confirmed by the CSAC.

Baroni Positive Regarding UFC Return
Phil Baroni hopes to make his return to the UFC later this year, if he can get the all-clear from his contract with ProElite. “I’d like to be fighting in the UFC. Its where I think I want to be. Fighting for Strikeforce is pretty good and so is Japan but I just want to be back on the big stage and not be a journeyman anymore,” he told Fighters Only.

Tito Ortiz not going back to UFC with Dana White still in charge
Tito Ortiz (15-6-1) takes another step away from his UFC roots at Saturday night's "Affliction: Day of Reckoning" event in Anaheim, Calif. Still bound by a fight contract to the organization that gave him his start, Ortiz recently told TAGG Radio (www.taggradio.com), the official radio partner of MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com), that he's excited to try his hand at MMA broadcasting, even though it's not for the UFC. "This will be my first step to get my feet wet and see how it is," Ortiz said. "I'm very, very excited."

Barnett Earns Title Shot, Belfort KO's Lindland
It took nearly all three rounds, but Josh Barnett – at Saturday night's "Day of Reckoning" in Anaheim, Calif. – earned his shot at the WAMMA heavyweight title. He thoroughly dominated Gilbert Yvel, taking him down throughout and unleashing a relentless barrage of punches, hammerfists, and forearms. It wasn't until the waning moments of the final round, however, before Barnett overwhelmed Yvel with his onslaught, causing the Dutch fighter to tap out.

Crushing KO Keeps Fedor On His Throne
For three minutes, Andrei Arlovski appeared that he had finally cracked the code to the world's greatest heavyweight. In the end, he only found a chink in Fedor Emelianenko's armor, not a way to pierce his heart. Arlovski had the reach advantage in this fight. He had the speed advantage. He was elusive. And true to the pre-fight words of his boxing trainer, Freddie Roach, he appeared to have Fedor frustrated, something rarely seen in the Russian's demeanor. There was even a trickle of blood flowing from Fedor's nose.

UFC Quick Quote: BJ Penn surprised that Georges ‘Hamburglar’ St. Pierre isn’t using steroids
"It’s surprising that he’s in such good shape without the use of steroids or growth hormones, he’s eating cheeseburgers and all that. (GSP trainer) Firas [Zahabi], after the fight, he can go home, walk to his bedroom, take his shoes off, lie down in his bed, take about 20 or 30 minutes and go **** himself." UFC Lightweight Champion BJ Penn has some very unkind words for Georges St. Pierre and trainer Firas Zahabi on Sirius Satellite’s Hardcore Sports Radio following the debacle that has become the ‘reality’ behind the Spike TV production “UFC Primetime,” which is a $1.7 million three-part promotional series for his upcoming super fight against ‘Rush’ at UFC 94 on January 31. Just when you thought these two couldn’t generate any more heat prior to next Saturday’s epic battle, Mr. Penn delivers.

Sokoudjou: "I felt like someone stole my body and gave me a girl's"
When Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou (5-3) burst onto the world's MMA landscape in 2007 with knockout wins over Ricardo Arona and Antonio Rogerio Nogueira, "The African Assassin" was a picture of power and strength. But after a disappointing 1-2 stretch in the UFC, Sokoudjou's lack of fitness became a major concern for his future endeavors. With just hours remaining before Sokoudjou's "Affliction: Day of Reckoning" bout with Renato "Babalu" Sobral (31-7) in Anaheim, Calif., the Team Quest fighter told TAGG Radio (www.taggradio.com), the official radio partner of MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) that he's ready to put an end to questions of his fitness. "Usually I wake up 10 pounds over (on the day of the weigh-ins), but I did it different this time," Sokoudjou said. "[This time] I was three pounds over. "I don't want to do a big cut anymore and get in the sauna and kill myself forever. This time I decided to get on a diet a long time ago and get my weight down to where I don't need a sauna anymore." The chiseled Sokoudjou's strength and explosiveness have long been considered his greatest assets. But in UFC losses to Luis Cane and Lyoto Machida -- defeats that led to Sokoudjou's release from the organization -- the Cameroon native faded quickly after the opening five minutes. Sokoudjou readily admitted his faults. "Last time I had a big cut, and then halfway through the fight I felt like someone stole my body and gave me a girl's body to fight with," Sokoudjou said.

Dana White: Phone call to BJ Penn during ‘Primetime Live’ was as real as it gets
“… if you saw the fallout with me and B.J. during [”Primetime Live”] — a lot of people thought that was contrived, but we don’t ******* fake anything here — it was all real. We could have done a behind the scenes of the behind the scenes on that one. It’s a great product. The end result was awesome. I think the cinematography is amazing. I think the storyline is great. It pumps you up when you watch it and gets you ready for what I call, just to let you know how big this fight is, it’s Haggler-Hearns, it’s Haggler-Leonard, it’s any of the big Tyson fights…. [Me and BJ] got into it a little bit. I’ve had a relationship with this kid for like 11 years. His brother described it best when he said we’re like a family. We’re a dysfunctional family sometimes, but we’re family. Not everybody agrees on everything, but it’s all good. I’m fond of B.J.. I’m fond of Georges. They’re both great guys and they’re both great athletes, and this is going to be a great fight. The whole thing with the phone call was just that all he needed to do was pick up the phone and say, ‘Everything’s good. I’m training.’ It would have avoided a lot of behind the scenes drama.”

Affliction - DOR - Preview w/Guest Fighter Picks!
This weekend Affliction will host their second ever event, which as the first will also be headlined by undefeated heavyweight phenom Fedor Emelianenko. The former PRIDE champion and current WAMMA champion will face off against former UFC heavyweight champion Andrei Arlovski. The card will also feature PRIDE’s 2006 Open-Weight Grand Prix finalist Josh Barnett against the highly controversial striker Gilbert Yvel, as well as “Baby Fedor” Kiril Sidelnikov against former UFC heavyweight contender Paul Buentello, and late replacement Bobby Green against WCF veteran Dan Lauzon. The main card, which will air live on pay-per-view, is rounded out with top ten middleweight Matt Lindland against Vitor Belfort and Strikeforce’s light heavyweight champion Renato “Babalu” Sobral against PRIDE and UFC veteran Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou. The HDNet-hosted preliminary card will feature PRIDE veteran Antonio Rogerio Nogueira against IFL champion Vladimir Matyushenko, L.C. Davis against Bao Quach (who fights as a late-notice replacement for Mark Hominick), and IFL welterweight champion Jay Hieron against Jason High.

Mike Reilly (Team Bison) – “There are two very different Andrei Arloski’s. One is really an average fighter who panics under pressure – the other is a stone cold killer with the hands of a top 10 pro boxer, the skills of a world class grappler, and the mind of a rapid Pitbull on crack who just found someone banging his wife on Christmas morning. This Andrei could be the best one the planet. This Andrei can drop any man, at anytime. His straight right is a king maker. There is only one Fedor. The quintessential Russian fighter. He can beat you with overwhelming forces. He can beat you with guile. And he can take a beating so server that it would kill a dozen lesser men. The saying goes that “Russians are born to bleed, but never die.” I foresee a long drawn out bloody civil war. This may be the fight that makes most of the world turn away as every vodka loving son of a bitch watches that much closer. In the end I see Fedor outlasting the Pitbull. Draining him and finishing him last in the fight as a non-Russian ref finally puts and end to the fight. However if the Pitbull lands that clean straight right we will see the last legend of the sport fall.”

Barnett & Babalu Talk Affliction---
Josh Barnett & Renato 'Babalu' Sobral Leading up to Affliction 'Day of Reckoning'

PDG: So much to lose by taking this fight and not much to win. Why did you as a top 3 Heavyweight in the world take this fight? Barnett: Because it’s a fight; Plain and simple. I can wait around to fight one guy and let my career pass me by or I can get in there and do what I love to do: commit murder.
