Dana White: Miesha Tate has to 'knock a couple more people off' before Ronda Rousey
Miesha Tate’s prospect of another UFC title fight against women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey have gone from bad to worse. UFC President Dana White publicly announced Tate (17-5 MMA, 4-2 UFC) as the No. 1 contender to Rousey’s (12-0 MMA, 6-0 UFC) title following her unanimous decision victory over Jessica Eye at UFC on FOX 16 in July. Rousey made her sixth consecutive title defense against Bethe Correia the following week at UFC 190 in Brazil, and White again declared that Tate would be next in line to challenge “Rowdy” for UFC gold. The situation took a sudden shift, however, when Holly Holm was announced as the next challenger to Rousey’s belt. The pair is set to fight at UFC 193 in Melbourne on Nov. 14.

Report: Alvarez fighting Pettis on January 17th, possibly in Boston
Former champions will apparently come together for a big fight in January. One-time UFC champ Anthony Pettis looks set to return from his title defeat at the hands of Rafael dos Anjos back in March at UFC 185. His opponent for his return, according to Combate, will be former Bellator champion Eddie Alvarez, fresh off a huge win over Gilbert Melendez in Mexico at UFC 188. While the fight makes sense for both men and would be a great booking, it's not 100% official yet. In fact, responding to reports, Eddie Alvarez didn't seem to know anything about it, but didn't deny it either: Edward Alvarez ?@Ealvarezfight I can't sit right Now !! Boston !! Me and Pettis ?? are You fucking Kidding me !!! East coast lets Gooooo!!! This will be something special

Daniel Cormier: Alexander Gustafsson's biggest accomplishment 'a fight he lost'
Daniel Cormier said he doesn’t understand why UFC 192 opponent Alexander Gustafsson gets so much credit for his loss to Jon Jones nearly two years ago. At UFC 165 in September 2013, Gustafsson (16-3 MMA, 8-3 UFC), who’s set to challenge Cormier (16-1 MMA, 5-1 UFC) for his UFC light-heavyweight title at UFC 192, gave ex-champ Jones arguably the most competitive fight of his career. “The Mauler” came out on the losing end of a unanimous decision, but since that fight, he’s received praise for pushing Jones to his limit during the dramatic five-round affair.

Geane Herrera calls out Ian McCall for UFC on FOX 17
The flurry of bookings recently announced for December’s UFC on FOX 17 event have put the number of fights on the card at 10. There should be a few slots left – as long as the promotion doesn’t have anything else up its sleeve. If there’s room, up-and-comer Geane Herrera (8-1 MMA, 0-1 UFC) would like to put his name in the hat. The flyweight badly wants to redeem himself for a loss in his UFC debut this past month – and against a big name in the division: Ian McCall (13-5 MMA, 2-3-1 UFC). “If they put me on that card, I will pack that house, and I will give them a show like I always do,” Herrera told MMAjunkie Radio.

Demetrious Johnson's Xbox sponsorship in limbo in UFC's Reebok era
At a recent media event in downtown LA, Johnson told MMAFighting.com essentially, that his Xbox sponsorship is in limbo. "I'm still in touch with them," Johnson said. "If any opportunities come up, then if I fit that role I'll be reached out. Other than that, it's just not there." The problem with maintaining outside sponsorships in the Reebok era is that the sponsor's big payoff came when their brand was displayed on television. While fighters can still do things like personal appearances outside of fight week, the sponsorship loses value if there aren't hundreds of thousands of people watching. "All the sponsors out there, they're looking for that prime-time spot, that's what they're paying for," Johnson said. "So if any, Bad Boy, Hayabusa, whatever's out there, they're looking for that prime spot. Of course they can do stuff outside the Octagon, but they're going to make their big money inside the Octagon, that's where they get the most viewers."
