Silver Star inks Bruce Buffer as brand ambassador
Silver Star clothing has quickly become one of the more prominent brands in mixed martial arts with a growing collection of "Signature Series" T-shirts worn by several fighters in recent UFC events.
Rashad Evans, Rich Franklin, Forrest Griffin, Clay Guida, Jon Jones, Lyoto Machida, Anderson Silva, Thiago Silva and Frank Trigg have all been sponsored by the company and granted a signature "Walkout" design.
Now the company turns its attention to another prominent UFC employee: "veteran voice of the octagon" Bruce Buffer.
UFC 111: Phil Baroni vs Marcus Davis likely for March 27
Hard-hitting (and crowd-pleasing) welterweights, Marcus Davis and Phil Baroni, have verbally agreed to throw leather at UFC 111 from the Prudential Center in Newark, N.J., on March 27, 2010.
The promotion has made no official announcements about the 170-pound match up or the actual pay-per-view (PPV) event at this time; however, that's expected to change very soon.
More on this breaking news in a bit.
UFC 111 is expected to feature a 170-pound title defense by promotion superstar Georges St. Pierre as "Rush" answers the call of British striker Dan "The Outlaw" Hardy. Heavyweights Frank Mir
and Shane Carwin
are also expected to collide in an interim title match while Brock Lesnar recovers from recent surgery.
Matt Hughes Predicts the Demise of Strikeforce
Hughes makes vague reference to Showtime’s interference in the process, and seems to believe that this will be Strikeforce’s undoing, sooner rather than later. Wrote Hughes:
Last week I was in California with Robbie, Pena, and Foster, hoping they would find a replacement so Robbie could fight. It didn’t happen and I guess I’m just spoiled being with the UFC. From what I understand, Showtime really likes to stick their nose in Strikeforce’s business and because of that I don’t think that Strikeforce will be around for much longer; but enough with that.
(Scott) Smith Proves Again That He Is MMA's Rocky Balboa
Following yet another incredible come from behind win, Scott Smith may soon have to begin every walk to the cage with the theme song from "Rocky." The California based fighter has a tendency to hang around in every fight he's in and then at the crucial moment pull out a stunning victory.
The latest conquest for Smith was a third round knockout of former Strikeforce middleweight champion Cung Le, who was getting the better of the fight for two-plus rounds, but when the window opened for Smith to explode he did just that.
Realizing he was down in the fight, Smith knew the third round was the key. That's when he finally implemented his trainers' game plan and then unloaded the shot heard all over San Jose.
Hayato Sakurai comments on Akihiro Gono's cerebral fighting style
To be honest, since Gono is my friend, my spirit sank a little when the fight card was announced. But we are professionals and this is a fight that the fans want to see, so I will give my best. No one wants to see a lukewarm fight between friends, right? Instead, we will have a murderous battle for fifteen minutes... yes that's what we want to do... we will (laughs). Gono is really talented. When he fought in Shooto, he had yet to discover his style so he struggled in some of the fights. Once he started coming into his own, however, he was amazing in PRIDE. He is a very cerebral fighter. Seriously, if I were not fighting him this time, I had been thinking about training with him to absorb the techniques of the master strategist. I can't cut myself any slack since he is craftier than I am.

"Strikeforce: Evolution" salaries: Cung Le tops fighter pay with $150K, "King Mo" fined
Other top earners from the Showtime-televised event included main-card winner Ronaldo "Jacare" Souza ($65,000), Smith ($55,000), Strikeforce lightweight champion Gilbert Melendez ($55,000) and Matt Lindland ($50,000).
Muhammed "King Mo" Lawal, who also competed on the main card and make his promotional debut, earned $20,000, half which came in the form of a win bonus. However, CSAC officials said the fighter was fined 10 percent of his purse for an issue with his sponsor. (Lawal splashed the cage with Rockstar Energy Drink after his win.)
Melendez Reflects On War With Thomson
Relief overshadowed joy in Gilbert Melendez’s successful bid to unify the Strikeforce lightweight title against Josh Thomson. In a fight certain to be on the short list for Fight of the Year, Melendez was smarter and sharper than his first meeting with Thomson in June 2008 – where he lost the title and took the interim strap waiting for Thomson to heal from multiple injuries – and took a unanimous decision nod for a second turn as undisputed champion at Saturday’s “Evolution.”

Dos Santos: “I wanna be a big champion”
“I owe everything I am in fight to Rodrigo. When he has the belt, I’ll be his guardian. To fight with him, they’ll have to fight with me first”, said the heavyweight, laughing. With defined return on UFC 108, against the rough Gilbert Yvel, revealed that his biggest dream is to be on top of the world. “As fighter I’m not different of anyone, I also want to be a big champion, to be a big name as Minotauro and Minotouro”, said.

The Lightning Rod: Controversial UFC castoff Karo Parisyan explains recent troubles
Karo Parisyan got out of a cab at the Las Vegas airport, and his father's voice on the other end of his cell phone was finally too much to bear.
It hadn't been long since Parisyan told his manager to inform the UFC brass that he was pulling out of his scheduled UFC 106 bout with Dustin Hazelett last month. A series of suffocating personal issues, Parisyan said, led to the decision, the most difficult he said he has ever made.
He had hundreds of texts and phone messages pleading with him to answer the question: Why?
