Emil Weber Meek Shocks the World, Stops Palhares
(mmaviking.com)
Emil Weber Meek (8-2-1-1) stops Rousimar Palhares (18-7) in less than a minute by countering a single leg with elbows and then punches to the head to quickly KO the Brazilian! “I’m here to shock the world” said Meek to MMAViking.com about the opportunity to fight the UFC veteran and WSOF champion, and he did just that at Venator FC III. There was short feeling out period in Italy, where the two fighters exchanged a few punches without much intention. Then Palhares dove in for a single leg and had it against the cage looking to get the fight to the ground. With the Norwegian’s back to the fence, the Frontline MMA Academy fighter landed hard elbows with mean intentions which stunned the Brazilian. Quickly turning on top of the dangerous fighter, Meek wasted no time in punching Toquino in the side of the head with quick and powerful blows, and again, and again, and again until the referee jumped in at just 45 seconds!!!

Canelo Alvarez vacates WBC belt to avoid 'artificial deadlines' for GGG fight
(boxingjunkie.usatoday.com)
*Please note, I figured most on the PG would like to see this but don't know exactly where to post it* Lineal and Ring Magazine middleweight champion Canelo Alvarez has decided to vacate his WBC middleweight belt as the WBC’s 15-day deadline to get a unification fight done with mandatory challenger Gennady Golovkin draws near. Alvarez (47-1-1, 33 KOs), coming off an explosive sixth-round knockout of Amir Khan on May 7, said he did not want to be negotiating the fight with Golovkin (35-0, 32 KOs) under “artificial deadlines.” With Canelo vacating the belt, Golovkin, who was the interim WBC champion, sheds the interim title and is now the WBC middleweight champion. Canelo released a statement Wednesday: “After much consideration, today, I instructed my team at Golden Boy Promotions to continue negotiating a fight with Gennady ‘GGG’ Golovkin and to finalize a deal as quickly as possible. I also informed the WBC that I will vacate its title. For the entirety of my career, I have taken the fights that no one wanted because I fear no man. Never has that been more true than today. I will fight ‘GGG,’ and I will beat ‘GGG’ but I will not be forced into the ring by artificial deadlines. I am hopeful that by putting aside this ticking clock, the two teams can now negotiate this fight, and ‘GGG’ and I can get in the ring as soon as possible and give the fans the fight they want to see.”
