I hope everyone had a Happy Holidays and has a great new year. With 2007 coming rapidly to an end, I think it is time to look back at the year that was. It was great year for MMA that saw unprecedented growth in popularity, rise of new superstars, return of a legend, great fights, and shocking upsets.

The Iceman Will Stick to His Plan
LAS VEGAS — The late nights in the country’s trendiest hot spots were never an issue when he pummeled Tito Ortiz. The paunch around the midsection was ignored when he iced Renato Sobral. The string of celebrity girlfriends was passed off as Chuck being Chuck when he knocked out Randy Couture.
UFC 82: Evan Tanner vs. Yushin Okami
Former middleweight champion Evan Tanner will return to action against top 185-pound contender Yushin Okami at UFC 82: “Pride of a Champion” on March 1, 2008, at the Nationwide Arena in Columbus, Ohio. I gotta think this match has title shot implications.

Hughes blasts Big TIm
From Hughes upcoming book. He makes Tim seem like the red-headed step-child of MFS TS: “Is there anything I can do to be friends with you?” MH: “Well, right now I have enough friends and I don’t need any more friends,” I said. “Is that it? Are we done here?” He let out a deep breath. “Yeah, I guess.” “Good.” I got up and left.
UFC No Longer Issuing Signing Bonuses
In an effort that he hopes will help avoid complications during contract negotiations, UFC President Dana White says he’s eliminated signing bonuses for fighters. The UFC’s CEO made the comments in a recent interview with the L.A. (The piece, which attempts to prove a rift between the UFC and fighters over pay issues, is available at latimes.com.)
A Look Back At Japanese MMA In '07
While it looked like 2007 was a good year for MMA in Japan, scandals tainted what could've been a banner year-the Akiyama-Sakuraba controversy, tabloid scandals, and the "death" of PRIDE FC.
RICH CLEMENTI HAS 'NO LOVE' FOR GUILLARD
Perhaps never in the history of mixed martial arts has someone’s nickname been so poignant when it is applied to an upcoming match-up as Rich Clementi’s when used as a backdrop for his upcoming fight with Melvin Guillard at UFC 79 this Saturday in Las Vegas. “No Love.” Indeed there is absolutely nothing but distain from Clementi to Guillard, a classic case of veteran opposing a young rising star, two people from very different ideologies colliding in what could be the grudge match of 2007.

UFC Fight Night 13: Florian vs. Lauzon, Bonnar vs. Hamill Discussed
A UFC Fight Night 13 event planned for April 2 is starting to take shape. Earlier today The Fight Network reported that lightweight contender Kenny Florian (7-3 MMA, 6-2 UFC) and “The Ultimate Fighter 5” standout Joe Lauzon (16-3 MMA, 3-0 UFC) have agreed to a bout that will serve as the night’s main event. MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) has uncovered some additional details about the event. UFC Fight Night 13, which will air live on Spike TV, will serve as a lead-in for the season debut of “The Ultimate Fighter 7,” which features a cast of middleweight hopefuls that will be coached by UFC light heavyweight champion Quinton Jackson and “The Ultimate Fighter 1” winner Forrest Griffin. Filming begins Jan. 29. A source close to the event today told MMAjunkie.com that a bout between former cast members Stephan Bonnar (11-4 MMA, 5-3 UFC) and Matt Hamill (3-1 MMA, 3-1 UFC) has also been discussed as a possibility. The light-heavyweight clash could earn co-main event status if officially signed, we’re told.
Ken Florian and Joe Lauzon have verbally agreed to meet in a headlining UFC lightweight bout on Spike TV, Florian’s camp confirmed Wednesday. The proposed match-up would see the pair of popular New England fighters meet in the main event for a UFC Fight Night tentatively scheduled for Wednesday, April 2. A venue for the event has not been announced, though the Massachusetts natives would not have the pleasure of mixing it up in their home state. MMA remains unregulated in the Bay State. Contracts have not yet been presented to “The Ultimate Fighter” alumni, though they are expected shortly.
