Thiago Alves vs. Paulo Thiago in the works for December's UFC 107 in Tennessee
In a bout sure to cause some commentating confusion, MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) has learned from sources close to the event that Paulo Thiago (11-1 MMA, 1-1 UFC) and Thiago Alves (16-5 MMA, 9-3 UFC) have verbally agreed to meet at UFC 107 in December.
Josh Gross: Anderson Silva Wants to Fight at Heavyweight
Anderson Silva wants big-money event fights. And he's willing to work at heavyweight to make sure they happen. Not only that, they already had an opponent in mind: Frank Mir. Disinterested by middleweight contenders Nathan Marquardt, Demian Maia and Dan Henderson, and unwilling to fight close friend Lyoto Machida at light heavyweight -- where Silva could conceivably knock off challengers and make a disaster out of the UFC's marquee division -- "The Spider" needs new, challenging scenarios to stay motivated. A move to heavyweight would certainly achieve that, and according to Silva's manager Ed Soares, the UFC was receptive to the idea.

On the heels of Shane Carwin being scratched from UFC 104 to challenge Brock Lesnar for the division title in November, MMAmania.com (www.mmamania.com) can confirm that former IFL and Affliction heavyweight standout Ben Rothwell has agreed to step in for “The Engineer” versus Cain Velasquez on Oct. 24.
The Plight and Prosperity of British MMA
Welcome to the fledgling world of British MMA. By all measurements, mixed martial arts has never been more popular on this side of the Atlantic. Media coverage, talent and public awareness progressively rise, and yet, despite these increases, domestic promotions are finding it harder than ever to attract the fans that play the video game, buy the magazines and watch the UFC.
Yves Jabouin: One of Montreal’s Best Aims For America
For the past 24 years, ever since his mother left war-torn Haiti with her three small children in search of a new life, Yves Jabouin has called Montreal home. He is at a loss, however, to pinpoint why Canada’s second-biggest city has distinguished itself as a burgeoning hotbed for mixed martial arts and boasts one of the sport’s most rabid fan bases.
Demian Maia: War and Peace
Through 11 professional mixed martial arts battles, Maia has forged a similar reputation inside the cage. Renowned as a lethal jiu-jitsu practitioner – one of the best exponents the sport has ever seen – Maia is a killer with a quirk. Whisper it quietly. He doesn’t like hurting people.

Fedor's "Big Fight" May Not Be Until 2010
So says Scott Coker. The Strikeforce CEO, in revealing plans for Fedor in the promotion, says the fighter's debut will be in October or November. They plan to have him fight a couple of times before a "big fight" and they have a list of 4 candidates as opponents for his debut, again emphasizing one of them is and will not be Ricco Rodriguez.
Cain Velasquez Talks Fatherhood, Shane Carwin and Brock Lesnar's Recent Antics
Cain Velasquez (6-0) isn't buying into his own hype. The American Kickboxing Academy product is one of the brightest young stars in MMA, yet -- refreshingly -- he still feels he has a long way to go before being considered an elite big man. FanHouse spoke to Velasquez recently at AKA about his progression as a fighter and his upcoming bout against Shane Carwin. Check out the full video interview below.

Why Fedor Emelianenko's and M-1's Co-Promotion Requirement Could Ruin MMA
"This simply isn't going to happen and not just because of the money. UFC has learned the main lesson of boxing's decline: You need to give people the fights they want to see. That can't be done when every fighter is a promotion unto himself, able to avoid taking on an opponent if he doesn't like the terms or his chances. To allow Emelianenko to co-promote with UFC would just be to encourage Lesnar, St-Pierre, Silva, and anyone else who wants more money and more control to hold out for the same rights. And that would be crippling to a nascent sporting cartel."
Phillipe Nover Subs for Kyle Bradley Against Sam Stout at UFC Fight Night 19
The Ultimate Fighter 8 lightweight finalist Phillipe Nover has accepted a fight on four weeks notice to face Sam Stout at UFC Fight Night 19 on Sept. 16 in Oklahoma City, FanHouse has learned. Nover (6-2-1) is replacing the injured Kyle Bradley, whom Nover lost a first-round TKO to at UFC 98 in May.
Chris Leben Explains Steroid Use, Looks Forward to Turning The Page
After a nine-month suspension for using steroids, UFC middleweight Chris Leben is soon to return to action. Usually in a situation like that, a fighter would have to worry about negative public reaction to his comeback, but in this case, Leben is likely to be hailed like a conquering hero, as the 29-year-old veteran has the good fortune of returning at UFC 102 in his hometown of Portland, Oregon. The match itself, however will not be easy; Leben (18-6) will take on former three-time NCAA wrestling national champion Jake Rosholt as a featured bout on the televised card.
AFFLICTION VP ON NEGOTIATING WITH M-1 & FEDOR
When the negotiations between the Ultimate Fighting Championship and M-1 Global, which represents Fedor Emelianenko, broke down last month, there weren't too many fans or critics surprised by the fact that the Russian wouldn't compete in the Octagon any time in the near future. The sticking point to the entire process was M-1's demand to co-promote with the UFC, and the UFC has always had a strict policy to not co-promote with other organizations. At the end of the day, no agreement was reached, and Fedor went on to sign with Strikeforce.
