Report: Penn vs. Sanchez At 105
(insidefights.com) Turns out Michael Bisping may not headline UFC 105 after all. According to InsideFights, a source within UFC says that BJ Penn's next UFC Lightweight Title defense against Diego Sanchez will happen at UFC 105 in November. This comes despite Penn saying he's never do a UK event again over money issues and 105 expecting to be a free TV event in the US.

Jim Miller to face UFC newcomer Steve Lopez on UFC 103 preliminary card
(mmajunkie.com) With Thiago Tavares recently bowing out of a UFC 103 preliminary card matchup due to an injury, Jim Miller (14-2 MMA, 3-1 UFC) will now fight UFC newcomer Steve Lopez (12-1 MMA, 0-0 UFC).
MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) has learned from sources close to the event that both fighters have agreed to the contest, and bout agreements are expected to be distributed shortly.
Chuck to dance with Anna Trebunskaya
(mixedmartialarts.com) Looking back now, it's hard to believe there was a time when we thought that continuing to fight in the UFC was the worst thing Chuck Liddell could do for his long-term health and career legacy. Then he decided to join a televised dance contest with a bunch of "celebrities" and a disgraced former congressman, and suddenly we find ourselves wishing that he'd just come back and get hit in the head over and over again instead.
Dana White: Shane Carwin Hates Brock Lesnar
(bloodyelbow.com) "Brock is ready to go now and wants to fight," said White. "Carwin makes the most sense. He’s 11-0, and he’s been kicking the [expletive] out of everybody. [Gabriel] Gonzaga destroyed [Mirko] Cro Cop and he [Carwin] totally destroyed Gonzaga. Plus, he hates Brock Lesnar."
Frank Mir: Fedor Emelianenko Is Ducking Top Fighters in UFC
(mma.fanhouse.com) When Frank Mir owned the UFC interim heavyweight title, he always made clear that he didn't believe his own belt made him the best heavyweight in the world: Mir, like most MMA observers, said that Fedor Emelianenko is the top heavyweight. But now Mir's opinion has changed.
Asked on the DAM Show why he thought Fedor had chosen to fight for Strikeforce instead of the UFC, Mir echoed UFC President Dana White and others who have suggested that Fedor isn't interested in proving himself against UFC champion Brock Lesnar and the other top fighters in the UFC.
Paul Buentello Plots Next Move
(mma.fanhouse.com) Paul Buentello is a man in limbo.
After his fight against Gilbert Yvel was scrapped along with the entire Affliction promotion, "The Headhunter" is one of the few fighters from the "Trilogy" card who has yet to land with a new promotion. FanHouse spoke to the 12-year veteran at the American Kickboxing Academy in San Jose about where and when he hopes to fight next. Check out the full video interview below.
Having defeated Marloes Coenen, Belgian fighter Cindy Dandois says she's ready for "Cyborg"
(mmajunkie.com) For a brief period in women's MMA, it seemed the fashionable thing to do was to call out fan favorite Gina Carano (7-1).
Everyone wanted a piece of "The Face of Women's MMA," knowing that a win could catapult them to instant stardom.
For Belgian fighter Cindy Dandois (1-0), Carano's just the start. Dandois, whose lone career win came against Strikeforce's top female contender Marloes Coenen (16-3), wants Carano, slugger Erin Toughill (10-2-1) and, oh yeah, champion Cristiane "Cyborg" Santos (8-1).
Report: Chase Gormley meets Stefan Struve at UFC 104 heavyweight contest in October
(mmajunkie.com) One of the names lost in the UFC's recent heavyweight match shuffling was undefeated prospect Chase Gormley (6-0 MMA, 0-0 UFC).
The recent Affliction transfer was originally scheduled to face Ben Rothwell but was left without an opponent following the flurry of new matchups that ultimately resulted in a heavyweight title fight between champ Brock Lesnar and challenger Shane Carwin.
Frank Mir plans on striking with Cheick Kongo at UFC 107
(mmamania.com) Former UFC heavyweight champion Frank Mir dishes on his planned fight against the hard-hitting Cheick Kongo at UFC 107 from the FedEx Forum in Memphis, Tennessee on December 12. Did his TKO win over Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira at UFC 92 over-inflate his confidence in the stand-up game? Or does the Las Vegas native have the arsenal to stand and bang with the Parisian — who is known for his poor wrestling defense?
Randy Couture Proud of Protege Gina Carano
(5thround.com) UFC Hall of Famer Randy Couture was in Gina Carano’s corner this past Saturday as she faced the toughest opponent of her career at “Strikeforce: Carano vs. Cyborg.” Although her supermodel-face didn’t leave the cage the same way it entered, Couture is still proud of the work his protege put in despite the disappointing loss.
“I think she had some opportunities to win,” the UFC Hall of Famer said on Carano’s behalf. “It was an amazing five minutes. They made a lot of transitions, a lot of positions, and I think Gina caught Cyborg with some shots that got her attention, and obviously Gina got overwhelmed on a couple of occasions, but I think overall, she did some great things.
Brandon Vera Prepares for UFC 102 With an Eye on Lofty Goals
(mma.fanhouse.com) Brandon Vera has the loftiest goal imaginable for an MMA fighter, and even if you don't think he can do it, he's not afraid to say it publicly: Vera wants to hold the UFC heavyweight belt and the UFC light heavyweight belt simultaneously. That's the goal that drives him.
Never mind that Vera has never even been the No. 1 contender for either title, Vera insists that he can do it. But in the mean time, he's just focused on beating Krzysztof Soszynski, the man who will be on the other side of the Octagon from Vera on August 29 at UFC 102. In an interview with FanHouse, Vera discussed the upcoming fight and his long-term plans in the sport. The full interview is below.
MINOTAURO NOGUEIRA IS STILL IN THE GAME
(mmaweekly.com) Three fights into his UFC career, former Pride and UFC champion Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira says the best is yet to come. And though his headlining fight with Randy Couture at UFC 102 may be long overdue, he feels it’s the best opportunity possible for redemption.
“I’m gonna have a lot of people against me, but I’ve been very focused and very well-trained,” he told reporters during a media teleconference Tuesday.
For a guy that’s been in the game as long as he has, ups and downs come with the territory. The stakes, however, have doubled since he’s come to the UFC and met with mixed success.
Shane Carwin ‘honored’ to fight Brock Lesnar at UFC 106
(mmamania.com) “I have verbally been offered the fight with Brock and I have verbally accepted this fight. My manager and the UFC are handling the the details. I am honored that the UFC has given me this opportunity. The fans of this sport are what makes MMA so great. I expect to be fighting at UFC 106 in November.”
Number one heavyweight title contender Shane Carwin shares his first public thoughts on challenging division champion Brock Lesnar at UFC 106 from the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, Nevada, on Nov. 21. Carwin was expected to take on Cain Velasquez at UFC 104 on Oct. 24; however, the promotion today shifted gears and opted instead to put him up against someone his own size — Carwin and Lesnar are far and away the biggest competitors on the UFC roster. And they both have strong wrestling backgrounds. On paper, the fighters appear to be very evenly matched. However, Lesnar has dedicated himself to training mixed martial arts for the past few years. Meanwhile, Carwin still holds down a full-time job as an engineer at the North Weld County Water District in Colorado.
UFC 103 Undercard to be Televised on Spike TV
(punch.freedomblogging.com) The “UFC 103: Franklin vs. Belfort” pay-per-view card is going toe-to-toe with the Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs. Juan Manuel Marquez HBO pay-per-view event on Sept. 19.
The UFC is known for its creative marketing and counter-programming tactics and it looks like the MMA giant has come up with a good plan to beef up awareness for UFC 103.
The UFC will air a two-hour telecast of the UFC 103 undercard commercial free on Spike TV as a lead in for the UFC 103 main card on pay-per-view, according to a source at the UFC.
Georges St. Pierre Likely to Defend His UFC Title Against Winner of Mike Swick/Martin Kampmann in 2010
(bloodyelbow.com)
While no bout has yet been officially offered to St. Pierre, last month, UFC President Dana White announced that the winner of Sept. 19's UFC 103 matchup between Mike Swick and Martin Kampmann would be his next opponent. Given the rest time necessary for the winner of that contest coupled with St. Pierre's preference for a nine-week camp, it's likely that his next title defense will come in the early weeks of 2010
WEC’s Benson Henderson Sees His Opportunity To Strike
Henderson wasn’t blinded by his opponents precision striking or lightning speed. Rather, the 25-year-old had such poor vision that he could barely make out figures and objects just feet in front of him. Shortly following his knockout win over Shane Roller in April, Henderson took the first steps toward correcting the problem. The results have been incredible for the well-spoken Taekwondo black belt.
