NATE MARQUARDT AIMING FOR TOP OF THE TOP
(mmaweekly.com)
Nate Marquardt takes on Demian Maia at UFC 102 on Aug. 29 at the Rose Garden Arena in Portland, Ore., in a middleweight match-up that will likely put the winner in line for a title shot in his next outing. Marquardt is currently ranked third on the MMAWeekly.com middleweight world rankings, while Maia takes up the tenth slot. Either of them could have been an easy sell for a title bout with Anderson Silva and that was part of the appeal in Marquardt accepting the fight.

Sefo owns K-1 rules wins over MMA notables Hong Man Choi, Melvin Manhoef, Gary Goodridge, Marvin Eastman, Bob Sapp, Gilbert Yvel and Mark Hunt. Jordan is best known for his two-fight stint in the UFC, including a 2005 loss to Gabriel Gonzaga. That bout, marked by extended periods of inactivity, was highlighted by a Gonzaga Superman punch that left Jordan knocked out with just 21 seconds remaining in the bout.

It’s expected that the winner of the 185-pound contest between Shields and Miller will challenge reigning Strikeforce Middleweight Champion Cung Le later this year to unify the belts. Le is currently tied up with several Hollywood-related projects outside the cage that have kept him out of action for more than one year. He expects to return to competition by the end of 2009 or early 2010.

How Bad News Brown taught Krzysztof Soszynski Ude Garami
(content.usatoday.com)

Carwin ready for Lesnar challenge
(sportsillustrated.cnn.com)
No one was more surprised than Shane Carwin to learn that his bout with Cain Velasquez was being scrapped in favor of an immediate title shot against UFC heavyweight champ Brock Lesnar at UFC 106 in November. "My manager called late, which is never a good sign," Carwin said. "He told me the news and I was shocked. I was half asleep when I got the call but I was excited and in shock all at the same time. I woke up my wife and I think she thought I was just messing around with her."

Is Nate Marquardt Really Ready for Demian Maia's Jiu Jitsu?
(bloodyelbow.com)
Obviously you have your fair share of submission wins, but is it even worth the risk for you to go to the ground with him? "That's something I can't answer until I get in the fight, to be honest, because if the opportunity presents itself with him and we land there, and I feel comfortable and do some damage, I'm experienced enough that I'm not going to make some silly mistake and get caught in a triangle or something like that. The triangle that I have to worry about is the one he sets up. If I feel like he's setting stuff up, I'm going to try to get back to my feet, but if I'm doing damage, I'm going to keep doing damage."

Pat Miletich Says He Hasn't Signed a New UFC Contract ... 'Yet'
(mma.fanhouse.com)
Over the weekend, Bloody Elbow noticed that Pat Miletich's profile was put back up on UFC.com. This led to speculation that the 41-year-old MMA veteran had re-signed with the UFC. Remember, prior to UFC 101 Miletich told FanHouse that he hoped to bury his long-standing grudge with UFC president Dana White. On Monday, Miletich told FanHouse that he had not signed a new contract with the UFC "yet," but seemed very open to the idea of making his return to the Octagon in the near future. Of course, he also said the hatchet had been buried between both sides.

COUTURE READY TO FACE THE BEST NOGUEIRA
(mmaweekly.com)
Five-time UFC champion Randy Couture can empathize with Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira when critics say the former Pride and UFC champ is past his prime. At 46, he’s made a career of bucking the trend, performing at peak ability long past the usual shelf life for combatants. At 33, Nogueira is battling his first crisis of confidence after years of come-from-behind fighting and a lackluster performance in December against Frank Mir.

Cung Le Says He Isn't Done Yet
(mma.fanhouse.com)
Talk to any contender in the Strikeforce middleweight division, and you'll find out pretty quickly that they all agree on one thing: Cung Le needs to defend his title, and he needs to do so sooner rather than later. When FanHouse spoke to the organization's current 185-pound champion recently, he seemed eager to defend the title he won in March 2008, yet stopped short at saying exactly when that would happen. He also said he would consider vacating the title soon if his schedule doesn't allow him to compete again in the near future. Check out the full video interview below.
