UFC 91 - Cheick Kongo ruled out with shoulder injury
(mmabay.co.uk) French UFC heavyweight contender, Cheick Kongo, who was last seen in action at UFC 87, knocking out debutant Dan Evensen in the first round, has been ruled out of action for a number of months with a shoulder injury.
Kongo is said to have suffered the injury before his last outing and fought through the pain but will now go under the surgeons knife ruling him out for the rest of the year.
This was originally confirmed on ESPN's MMA Live
UFC 88: Martin Kampmann finds no weaknesses in Nate Marquardts game
(mmamania.com) “Most of the guys I’ve fought, I’ve been able to pinpoint a weakness in their game. Not with Nate. He is very well rounded, and one of best guys in the UFC. It’s going to be tough, but I am looking forward to it…. Before I was injured, I was supposed to fight in a main event. I got injured and was out for over a year, and people forgot about me. It was a long time out. Now, it’s time to fight my way back and remind people of who I am.”
Martin Kampmann heaps praise on his opponent, Nate Marquardt, at UFC 88: “Breakthrough” at the Philips Arena in Atlanta, Ga., on September 6. The article has some great background on “The Hitman” and his journey from competing in small European shows to the Octagon. He also goes into great details about the catastrophic knee injury that nearly cost him his fighting career.

Delete double post
(cbs2.com) A pretty lengthy video, but it's interesting. Rampage talks about some alleged abuse he recieved from police as well as his loss to Forrest.
Wolslair boss talks Rampage deal
(fightersonlymagazine.co.uk) Following our exclusive report that Quinton ‘Rampage’ Jackson has signed with the Wolfslair, Fighters Only spoke with gym boss Anthony McGann to discuss how the deal came about.
McCullough-Cerrone Winner Getting WEC Title Shot?
(mmajunkie.com) During an appearance on TAGG Radio recently, Rob McCullough revealed that the winner of his fight against Donald Cerrone at WEC 36 is next in line to face WEC Lightweight Champion Jamie Varner for the title.
UFC Quick Quote: Chuck Liddell is on a mission
(mmamania.com) “He finds a way to win. He’s done a good job controlling his fights. He’s good on top, and he moves well on his feet. He’s elusive and hard to hit, but I’m going to see if I can catch him…. I’m on a mission to get my title back and end my career on a streak of wins. I’m in shape, and I’m going to keep throwing like I do. The knockout power is still there.”
– Former UFC light heavyweight champion Chuck Liddell provides Sherdog.com with a quick and accurate scouting report of his upcoming opponent at UFC 88: “Breakthrough” on September 6, Rashad Evans. It’s the main event fight at the Philips Arena in Atlanta, Ga., earning the winner — especially if it’s Liddell — a likely title shot against Forrest Griffin perhaps before the year is even out. It’s a major contrast in styles — Liddell is the striker and Evans is the wrestler. And it will likely come down to who can execute the proper gameplan on fight night. There’s really no mystery involved … unless “Sugar” somehow “catches” the “Iceman” first.
WVR Sponsor Buys Stake In Pancrase
(sherdog.com) A strong source in the Japanese MMA industry has confirmed to Sherdog that Don Quijote, the primary sponsor of World Victory Road's Sengoku, is now a controlling partner of Pancrase. Pancrase will still operate as a separate and autonomous promotion despite drawing a considerable chunk of their resources from the same pool of capital.
Frank Backs Ken; Says Brother Will Beat Kimbo
(fightline.com) Frank and Ken Shamrock aren't exactly close. The two brothers have never gotten along that well and since the death of their adopted father the rift has grown.
"Ken and I are just two different people," said Frank Shamrock. "We don't really have (a relationship), we never have. After Bob (Shamrock) passed there was some resentment there on his part.
"But, I've never had a heart to heart conversation with the guy. He was never available and I was never a good communicator. We were too guys that never got past working out together. It's totally bizarre. I know more about the guys I train with today than I've ever known about Ken. I think when we were younger Ken was a very closed off dude and I wasn't a good communicator. Now, that's changed for me and Ken's changed as well but we never grew together."
Antonio 'Bigfoot' Silva Interview
(fiveouncesofpain.com) Suspended EliteXC heavyweight champion Antonio “Pezao” Silva recently spoke to us in an exclusive interview at Planet Tatami. For the first-time ever, we have translated the interview from Portuguese to English for exclusive publication here on FiveOuncesOfPain.com.
In this interview, which is translated by Planet Tatami’s André Filipe Cassimiro de Sousa, Silva discusses his recent suspension by the California State Athletic Commission for alleged steroid use, the decision by long-time American Top Team trainer Benkei to leave the fight camp, his thoughts on his most recent win over Justin Eilers, and more.
“Kimbo Slice is basically gift wrapped for me”
(fiveouncesofpain.com) The word pioneer is thrown around loosely these days, but in the case of Ken Shamrock, it’s an apt description. Speaking for myself, I am not sure I would have gotten into MMA if it wasn’t for Shamrock. He was just someone I was always interested in seeing fight and someone I’d always root for.
I am a writer but I am also a fan and I can remember watching UFC 40 in 2002 when Tito Ortiz pummeled Shamrock in their first-ever meeting. I hated Ortiz for doing that to my hero. Was it irrational anger? Absolutely. But I was a Shamrock fan and Ortiz had just beaten my guy. Unfortunately, it wouldn’t be the the last time he’d take a beating at the hands of Ortiz.
The losses to Ortiz made it easy to forget that Shamrock was both the first-ever King of Pancrase and the UFC’s first-ever Superfight champion. But the simple truth of the matter is he’s far removed from the time in which he known as the “World’s Most Dangerous Man.”
Scott Coker the man behind Strikeforce's curtain
(mmajunkie.com) This is the kind of thing that doesn't happen every day. Or every year. Or even every decade.
Scott Coker was 21, teaching martial arts near his Northern California home and not sure what he planned to do with the rest of his life. But he had a passion for taekwondo, enjoyed what he was doing and, like many young adults, wasn't particularly concerned at the time with where life was leading.
He was instructing in an otherwise typical day at his gym when one of his students, an employee of Coors Brewery, told him that Coors was looking to sponsor professional kickboxing events that were being broadcast on ESPN.
Randy Couture willing to fight in the UFC once more
(mmajunkie.com) Reigning UFC heavyweight champion Randy Couture could return to the Ultimate Fighting Championship by year's end as part of an out-of-court settlement with the organization.
Multiple sources close to the fighter, speaking exclusively to MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com), today said that Couture is willing to fight once more for the UFC, possibly before the end of the year, as a potential resolution to his ongoing legal battles with the fight promotion.
However, Couture himself could not be reached for comment, and it's unknown if the UFC is even considering the offer at this point.
According to one source, as part of Couture's concession to return the octagon, the 45-year-old UFC hall-of-famer would want to walk away "clear and free" from the organization after the bout.
Ultimate Fighter ‘Reunion’ show coming soon to Spike TV
(mmamania.com) The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) mixed martial arts reality series is often referred to as the single-most important development in the history of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC).
When the first episode debuted on Spike TV on January 18, 2005, the promotion was in dire straits. It was already about $40 million in the hole and it had essentially bankrolled a show on television to gain critical traction and exposure.
It was a huge dice roll — if the show flopped it could have spelled the eventual end of the Zuffa-owned organization. Fortunately for them, and the millions of fans now scattered across the globe, it was a smash hit thanks in large part to the sensational three-round light heavyweight final brawl between Forrest Griffin and Stephan Bonnar.
Griffin ended up with his arm raised in the end, along with Diego Sanchez, who was the middleweight winner after totally dominating Kenny Florian. In hindsight, however, more was won that night than just two fights — the entire concept won over a legion of MMA fans literally overnight.
Urijah Faber: BJ Penn Has 90 Percent Chance of Beating Kimbo Slice
(bloodyelbow.com) On the Big O & Dukes show on 106.7 WJFK today, WEC Featherweight Champion Urijah Faber was asked about BJ Penn's chances of defeating Kimbo Slice in a fight. Faber replied that Penn had a "90% chance" of defeating the EliteXC heavyweight, although one speculates Faber really feels the chances are much higher.
The Penn vs. Slice "fantasy match-up" is the product of UFC President Dana White's comment just prior to EliteXC's debut on CBS. White remarked that BJ Penn could defeat Slice in a MMA bout. The effort of White was to disparage Slice's talent level by suggesting a lightweight fighter in the UFC could defeat a heavyweight fighter in EliteXC (or at least Slice). Faber's corroboration merely adds fuel to the fire.
Glover Teixera Next Fight To Be In UFC...
(mmamania.com) Glover Teixera recently (5-2) recently appeared on an episode of tapout featuring his quick KO victory of Jorge Oliveria.
Glover Teixera is best remembered for KO's Soko in the WEC, and as Chuck Liddels longtime training partner.
Glover Teixera was rumored to appear on the UFC's next installment of the Ultimate Fighter, but it looks as if he will be skipping that route, signing a contract with the UFC...
