CUB SWANSON: "ONCE I
WEC featherweight star Cub Swanson will put his 11 fight winning streak on the line against his toughest, most experienced opponent when he takes on former UFC lightweight champion Jens "Little Evil" Pulver on September 5th. Check out what Swanson had to say as he talks about his training for Pulver and what to expect when the two meet as he's confident the fight won't make it out of the first round.
UFC Officially Signs Wanderlei Silva
The UFC today announced the signing of former Pride champion Wanderlei Silva.
In an article with UFC.com’s Thomas Gherbasi, the UFC announced that Silva will return to fight for the UFC for the first time in seven years. He last fought in the Octagon in April of 2000, losing a decision to Tito Ortiz at UFC 25.
Silva’s return is slated for sometime in December. Although no date or opponent was announced, it is likely that “The Axe Murder” will make his return on the December 29 year-end extravaganza.
Both Silva and former UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Chuck Liddell have stated several times that they would like to face each other and UFC President Dana White has tried for years to put that fight together, so it would not be a stretch to believe that Silva vs. Liddell is the likely match-up for Silva’s return.
Silva commented in Gherbasi’s article that, as a longtime Pride champion, it has been a dream of his to have the UFC belt around his waste.
The signing appeared to be the realization of a dream of sorts for White as well. He stated on UFC.com, “As crazy as this sounds, this is the pinnacle of my seven year career in this company.”
The UFC has reserved December 29 with the Nevada State Athletic Commission for an event at the Mandalay Bay Events Center.
UFC 74 Media Conference Call Notes
The UFC conducted a conference call for the media today to help promote UFC 74 next Saturday in Las Vegas.
UFC president Dana White and UFC 74 fighters Randy Couture, Gabriel Gonzaga, Georges St. Pierre and Josh Koscheck all participated in the call.
Here’s a recap of some of the more newsworthy items that were discussed:
Sokoudjou: "Fedor is the guy standing between me and my dream car!"
Fans, if you missed the free chat session with former PRIDE light heavyweight star Sokoudjou, check out the entire transcript to see what he had to say about his future plans and much more. Answering questions directly from the fans, Sokoudjou talked about when we can expect to see him fighting again and who he'd like to be fighting next.
Nick Diaz set to compete in Shooto
Sadly its only a submission grappling match but it should still be interesting to see. Diaz is an agressive grappler and his opponent Shinji Sasaki should prove to be no slouch either being that hes a training partner of Shinya Aoki.
Arlovski Interview - "I don't think Fedor is UNbeatable"
I got a chance to speak with former UFC heavyweight champion Andrei "Pitbull" Arlovski. Andrei Arlovski is ranked, by many around the world, as one of the top 10 MMA heavyweights in the world. Arlovski holds notable wins over a who's who of fighters, which include: former UFC heavyweight champion Tim Sylvia, Ian Freeman, PRIDE veteran Fabricio Werdum, heavy hitter Paul Buentello, Vladimir Matyushenko and many others. Arlovski is best known for his incredible striking abilities, mobility on the feet, Sambo skills, dangerous submissions and even his unique mouthpiece, which contains two fangs, an accurate portrayal of his nickname, the "Pit Bull."

A few years ago, a Dallas businessman named Buckeye Epstein was invited to an underground fight in an abandoned discotheque in Southern California. He had no idea what he was in for.
Dana White: Brandon Vera "Likely" To Fight Tim Sylvia
Undefeated heavyweight contender Brandon Vera — who just worked his way back into the division fray after enduring a bitter dispute with his manager, Mark Dion — is likely to face Tim Sylvia in his first fight back.
That’s the latest word from UFC President Dana White on today’s conference call to promote UFC 74: “Respect” on August 25. Keep in mind: Nothing is signed at this time and there is no precise word on a date and/or location for the potential showdown.
Martin Kampmann sets his sights on early 2008 return
“The injury is getting better. But slowly and still a long way to go. I’ve started boxing again, but still no grappling or wrestling yet. Don’t have full range of motion in the knee and still lacking muscle, but working on it in rehab. I hope I can return to fighting in the beginning of the new year. I miss it a lot and can’t wait.”
Kampmann is rehabbing a knee injury that he sustained during training prior to his scheduled bout with former UFC middleweight champion Rich Franklin at UFC 72: “Victory” in June. He boasts a perfect record inside the Octagon with wins over Crafton Wallace, Thales Leites and Drew McFedries.
