Hard-hitting welterweights Matt Brown and Chris Lytle have been targeted for a UFC 116 matchup. A heavyweight title match between returning champion Brock Lesnar and interim heavyweight champion Shane Carwin is the expected headliner. Full Article
M-1 Global says Emelianenko available in June, waiting on Strikeforce to green light
When will Fedor Emelianenko fight again? Never has such a simple question required such a complex answer. While Emelianenko is currently under contract with M-1 Global, who also have a co-promotion agreement with Strikeforce, the organizations are currently in a holding pattern as they address disagreements that arose from the November event "Fedor vs. Rogers." But M-1 Global president Vadim Finklechtein recently insisted that Emelianenko could appear in a co-promoted show as soon as June. He's just waiting on the green light from his Strikeforce business partners. Full Article

BJ Penn's New Book Is Surrounded With Controversy, Questions About
Apr 21, 2010 - Former UFC lightweight champion B.J. Penn released his new book entitled "Why I Fight" last week, and with it brought some interesting stories and questions to the surface regarding Dana White and the UFC's business practices. A couple weeks before Penn's book was set to hit the bookshelves, Dana White somewhat curiously took issue with the release of the book and why some things, which I'll get to in a bit, were discussed.

M-1's Finkelchtein addresses Boon's "rubbish," apologizes for Overeem comments
While U.S. mixed martial arts fans may not be extremely familiar with the figures involved, the rivalry between M-1 Global president Vadim Finkelchtein and Golden Glory co-owner Bas Boon is nothing new. Quite the contrary, the two have traded verbal jabs since the heyday of PRIDE, and neither is much a fan of the other. But recently those jabs turned into knockout punches as Boon took to the Internet with an open letter that accused M-1 Global of ties to organized crime, death threats and patently avoiding a fight for its chief client, Fedor Emelianenko. Will Zuffa's WEC Gamble Pay Off This Weekend?
It's not easy to get people to pay for something that used to be free. Ask any airline that recently started charging for checked luggage – it's the kind of thing that brings out the angry mob in consumers who already feel like they're one more fee or rate hike away from reaching for the torches and pitchforks. But risks be damned, this Saturday UFC president Dana White is going to give it a shot with the first ever WEC pay-per-view event. After airing regularly on Versus (and yes, I know cable isn't free, but you're going to pay for it anyway because you'd rather die than miss an episode of "Cats 101" on Animal Planet) for the last three years, now Zuffa wants you to pay for the privilege of seeing their little guys duke it out. The forty-five dollar question is, are you going to do it? Full Article

Gus Johnson: My Job Isn't To Promote The Sport-I'm Paid To Give My Opinion And Describe What I See
Strikeforce: "Nashville" CBS broadcaster Gus Johnson retaliates after getting slammed by the majority of mixed martial arts pundits, including Mike Russell, who came down hard on the talking head for his comments during (and most memorably after) the main event between Jake Shields and Dan Henderson at "Saturday Night Fights" back on April 17. Most of what he commented on was the main event and the melee that happened afterwards.

UFC president promises bigger paydays for WEC fighters at "Aldo vs. Faber"
UFC president Dana White says bigger paydays are on the way for WEC fighters, at least for the time being. On Saturday, the UFC's sister organization asks fans to pony up $44.95 for WEC 48 at the ARCO Arena in Sacramento, Calif. – the same price as a UFC pay-per-view card. Many observers have noted a disparity in pay between WEC fighters and UFC fighters. However, White said that gap will narrow Saturday – at least temporarily – as the WEC moves from the smaller money in cable television to the dynamic and potentially lucrative world of pay-per-view. Jake Ellenberger vs. John Howard set for Aug. 1 in Utah at UFC on Versus 2:
It looks like that grudge match with Anthony Johnson will have to wait for John Howard. The 27-year-old welterweight will be vying for his fifth UFC win when he takes on Jake Ellenberger Aug. 1 in Utah at UFC on Versus 2. According to Howard, the fight has been verbally agreed upon and should be made official soon. “I feel good about it. The guy’s a pretty good wrestler but all my career I’ve been fighting nothing but wrestlers so I think I’ll be ready,”said Howard. Full Article
MMA Top 10 Light Heavyweights: King Mo Makes List... Really?
The last few times I've posted my rankings of the Top 10 light heavyweights in mixed martial arts, I've heard from readers who insisted that I had Gegard Mousasi too low. It turns out I was ranking Mousasi too high, and not giving enough credit to the man who thoroughly whipped him on Saturday night, Muhammed "King Mo" Lawal. Like most MMA fans, I questioned whether Lawal was ready for a fighter of Mousasi's considerable talents. But in reality Lawal showed that he has incredible strength and great takedowns, and he makes my list of the sport's best light heavyweights, which is below. Would everyone agree with this list. I'm not so sure yet. Full Article and List

Dana White says Showtime runs Strikeforce, not Scott Coker; won't be worried about Strikeforce when they're off CBS
I'm telling you, man, I'm the one out there, hitting the pavement, beating the bricks, talking to all these guys. They don't know (crap) and they don't want to know (crap). They don't care... They (Strikeforce) are going to go away. Showtime (messed) that whole thing up. They'll go away. They'll be off CBS and I won't have to worry about them being so, you know, out in front. When something like that happens on CBS, people are going to hear about it. If they end up staying with (crappy)-ass Showtime, 200,000 people see it. I can live with that... Full Article
