Alexander Shlemenko Completes Bellator MW Tourney
(mmajunkie.com) Russian star Alexander Shlemenko is the final member of Bellator Fighting Championships' middleweight tournament field, organization officials today announced. He'll meet Matt Major at this week's Bellator 16. Bellator officials have been working on contract and visa issues for more than a month to land Shlemenko – and held off on naming a replacement because they wanted him in the tourney so badly.
Urijah Faber's Hometown Paper Tells Him to Retire
(mmafighting.com) One of the tough things about combat sports is that fighters compete so infrequently that every single loss seems like the end of the world. In other sports athletes can usually end a losing streak the next day or the next week, but in fighting losses take on added significance because you won't get a chance to win again for months.

Jr. Dos Santos wants to fight Cain
(tatame.com)
"With the fight for the belt between Brock Lesnar and Shane Carwin, the American Cain Velasquez, Rodrigo Minotauro’s tormentor on his last fight *UFC 110), should be the next on the line for this opportunity, for Cigano’s mischance, who was waiting for a chance to revenge his master and get a little closer from his dream."
Dana White OK with WEC champ Jose Aldo's non-finish, open to 135-pound and UFC bids
(mmajunkie.com) WEC featherweight champion Jose Aldo's first title defense wasn't exactly a nail-biter. But it didn't come close to UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva's much-maligned UFC 112 performance, said UFC president Dana White.
The UFC figurehead conceded a finish would have been nice, though. After a night filled with barnburners, Aldo's decision win ended WEC 48 on a conservative note.
"Obviously the main event is always the big topper," White said of Aldo's fight with Urijah Faber. "I think [Aldo] could have finished that fight. I think he was being very – I'll call it extremely cautious."

(mmajunkie.com) SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Former WEC featherweight champion Mike Brown is back to the drawing board after his second consecutive loss, which came to Manny Gamburyan Saturday at WEC 48.
And though Brown asked to return to the cage as quickly as possible after losing his WEC belt to Jose Aldo this past November, UFC president Dana White learned the former champion is wrestling with personal demons that took a sizable chunk off his training time for this weekend's fight.
The people who tipped him off might surprise you.

White reveals that Versus, Spike TV agreements reason for brandless fight card

TV exposure.
"[The WEC and UFC] are two different brands on two different networks," White said. "Even though they're owned by the same company, they're two different brands owned by the same company. The networks aren't going to let us do it."

Are UFC-WEC joint shows on the horizon? Dana White says he has "long-term gameplan"
(mmajunkie.com) This past Saturday's "WEC 48: Aldo vs. Faber" event benefited from a promotional push from its sister promotion – the Ultimate Fighting Championship.
As MMAjunkie.com previously reported, the reason was simple: to get some preliminary fights on Spike TV as a teaser to the WEC's first-ever pay-per-view event, the WEC branding had to be stripped.
But what about a next step in the UFC-WEC relationship? Could we ever see UFC and WEC fighters competing on the same card?

Despite recent antics, Anderson Silva will headline UFC 117 says Dana White
(mmajunkie.com) SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Despite UFC president Dana White's threats in Abu Dhabi earlier this month, UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva will not be fighting on the preliminary card of a UFC event any time soon.
In fact, he'll actually be in the main event.

If the numbers hold true when verified later this week by the California State Athletic Commission, each figure is a new WEC record.

(mmajunkie.com) Much has been made in recent days of promotion official's decision to handle "Aldo vs. Faber" more like a UFC event than a WEC fight card.
While some have questioned the strategy, there are at least 22 people who have no problem with the decision.
