68-year-old Colorado woman fights in amateur MMA bout
(bloodyelbow.com)
On Saturday night, Sparta Combat League 48 saw Ann Perez de Tejada lose her amateur MMA debut to Laura Dettman. That's not really noteworthy whatsoever in the grand context of the sport, but there is one thing about Tejada that surely is an eyebrow raiser: She's 68 years old.

Fabricio Werdum vs. Stipe Miocic to Headline UFC 198 In Brazil
(sherdog.com)
UFC heavyweight champion Fabricio Werdum will defend his belt on Brazilian soil against top contender Stipe Miocic in the main event of UFC 198. Sources close to the bout on Monday confirmed the matchup to Sherdog.com following a report from Brazilian outlet Combate. Werdum and Miocic were briefly scheduled to square off in January after Miocic stepped in to replace injured former champion Cain Velasquez. However, Werdum also came up injured and withdrew from the bout soon after, and the event formerly known as UFC 196 became a UFC Fight Night. UFC 198 will take place May 14 at Arena da Baixada football stadium in Curitiba, Parana. The event was previously announced as a UFC Fight Night card with a middleweight main event between Ronaldo Souza and Vitor Belfort; that bout will instead serve as the pay-per-view co-headliner.

UFC Fight Night Pittsburgh Bonuses: Cerrone, Camozzi, Murphy, Faszholz Earn $50K
(sherdog.com)
Not only did Donald Cerrone return to his winning ways, he recaptured his bonus-hunting magic, as well. “Cowboy” earned a $50,000 “Performance of the Night” award for his first-round submission of Alex Oliveira in the UFC Fight Night Pittsburgh headliner at Consol Energy Center on Sunday evening. Cerrone made short work of his Brazilian foe, tapping Oliveira with a triangle choke 2:33 into round one to capture an extra paycheck for the first time in five bouts. Meanwhile, Chris Camozzi garnered the evening’s other $50,000 “Performance of the Night” bonus by blasting through fellow veteran Joe Riggs in a featured middleweight bout. “The Ultimate Fighter 11” alum immediately rocked Riggs with a jab before unloading a series of vicious knees to the head that brought halt to the contest 26 seconds after it began. Finally, Lauren Murphy and Kelly Faszholz took home “Fight of the Night” honors and $50,000 apiece for their spirited preliminary bantamweight scrap. Faszholz set the tone early with crisp punching combinations in the opening stanza, but Murphy would not be denied, as she took control over the second half of the bout before ultimately finishing her foe with ground-and-pound from full mount 4:55 into round three.

Justin Wren vs. Kimbo Slice next?
(mixedmartialarts.com)
We all fight for a reason. But Bellator MMA heavyweight Justin Wren has a best one imaginable. His fights to promote his efforts to Fight for the Forgotten. FFTF is a non-profit making life-altering impact in the remote parts of the Congo jungle. They are working to free the Mbuti Pygmy people from slavery, and then develop sustainability. Jesus said to love another. Wren really does that.

Dada 5000 suffers major medical scare after loss to Kimbo Slice
(mmafighting.com)
The Harris Family would like to inform Dada's friends and fans that Dada is ok and resting comfortably in a Houston area Hospital under the care of an incredible staff of doctors and nurses.?The doctors have now informed us that Dada had accumulated extremely high levels of potassium in his blood which led to severe dehydration, fatigue and renal failure. The high potassium levels were likely caused by his 40lbs weight loss in preparation for the fight.?Thanks to the EMTs and doctors, Dada is now recovering nicely. Dada showed the heart of a lion in the cage- not backing down throughout. He worked extremely hard preparing for the fight and stepped forward for 3 rounds against a tough veteran. He kept digging through the adversity- leaving it all in the cage for his fans and supporters. You can never take that away from him.?We'd like to thank all those who have supported Dada as well as express our sincere appreciation to Scott Coker, and the good people at BELLATOR and Spike who have been on-site to visit Dada and support the family.

Kimbo Slice fight attracts unusual betting on underdog
(espn.go.com)
Friday night's MMA bout in Houston between Kimbo Slice and relative unknown Dhafir "Dada 5000" Harris has attracted an unusual level of betting action on the underdog, causing the odds to shift dramatically and forcing multiple sportsbooks to take the fight off the board. Slice opened as a -360 favorite before a flurry of action, including several large wagers, poured in on the underdog Harris, driving the price down to Slice -165 as of Friday morning. "We took seven bets in the first two hours we had it up; all of them were to win four figures on the underdog," said Jason Simbal, vice president of race and sports at Las Vegas sportsbook operator CG Technology. "It was moving like crazy. We had to take it down." Apparently lots of different bookies have removed the fight from their sites...
