Ellenberger: From Living Nightmare to Dream Come True
Imagine if you will being a 10-0 professional fighter, on the rise, and getting the call from UFC matchmaker Joe Silva inviting you to the big show.
Sounds like a dream come true, right?
Well, for Ellenberger it was a dream and a nightmare all rolled up into one. Ellenberger, while working his way to the perfect 10-0 record, had started to become sluggish on a daily basis, sleeping for 12 hours some days and just not feeling himself.
Source: Da Silva-Yamaguchi, Gomez-Bittner Signed for TPF 10
A blockbuster flyweight scrap between Jussier da Silva and Mamoru Yamaguchi is set to go down on Aug. 5 at Tachi Palace Fights 10.
Sherdog.com on Wednesday confirmed the matchup with a source close to the bout, who also stated that Tachi Palace has signed Yamaguchi to a multi-fight contract that is exclusive in the United States.
The bout joins another pivotal 125-pound affair on the card, as TPF flyweight champion Darrell Montague defends his strap against surging WEC veteran Ian McCall at the Tachi Palace Hotel and Casino in Lemoore, Calif. Additionally, former titleholder “Useless” Ulysses Gomez will square off with undefeated Drew Bittner.
Tyron Woodley Eyes July Return, Hopes for Paul Daley Now, Nick Diaz Next
No sooner had Nick Diaz retained his Strikeforce welterweight title in April when he started discussing his future possibilities. There was a potential boxing match with Fernando Vargas thrown around, then another one against Jeff Lacy. There was a suggestion that he could face UFC champion Georges St-Pierre in an MMA superfight.
One option that Diaz seemed to immediately dismiss, however, was a rising star in his own company, within his own division, Tyron Woodley. The unbeaten Woodley, in Diaz's opinion, would be "in a little over his head" moving so quickly into the title picture.

UFC's Michael Bisping "gutted" by CSAC's decision on Chael Sonnen
One-time title challenger Chael Sonnen (25-11-1 MMA, 4-3 UFC) isn't the only one lamenting today's California State Athletic Commission ruling.
British slugger Michael Bisping (21-3 MMA, 11-3 UFC) says he's also disappointed in the CSAC's decision to uphold Sonnen's indefinite suspension from competition.
Just moments after the CSAC made their decision, Bisping took to Twitter to express his lament.
Sonnen suspended indefinitely
Live from Josh Gross twitter feed who is at the hearing.
"Back to the motion for indefinite suspension, which was seconded by Giza. 4-1 motion passes, the indefinite suspension remains."
Keith Kizer testified regarding conversations he had with Matt Lindland and the phantom conversations he had with Chael Sonnen.
Sonnen testified and said he never intended to make it sound like he had a conversation with Keith Kizer before confirming he never spoke to him nor the other commission director or commissioner regarding testosterone use and exemption. He stands by his testimony back in Dec. 2010, though.
Sonnen confirms that UFC is planning on making him a coach for the upcoming season 14 of The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) opposite Michael Bisping. The winner of their fight later this year would receive a title shot.
Sonnen states that if he doesn't get his license today he's "effectively retired and that comes from Dana White." Chael wells up when saying he just wants to go back to work and doesn't want to retire.
Chael claims he needs testosterone for "survival" and he has the testosterone of "a 93 year-old man."
After being asked about his testosterone treatment, Sonnen says he's taking it to this day and is monitored at least twice a month.
Sonnen's camp attempted to allow a declaration from Matt Lindland but California would not allow it.
In the closing arguments, Sonnen gets painted as a liar and a man who cannot be trusted. He is "always looking for someone else to blame," according to Deputy DA Karen Chappelle.
Sonnen's lawyers paint him as a man who is a "fundamentally good person." They also ask the commission to consider Dana White's words that if no license is obtained, Sonnen is effectively done in MMA.
The motion to uphold the indefinite suspension passes by a vote of 4-1. The indefinite suspension remains.

Nogueira: Anderson Silva Nearly Retired Before Entering UFC
No man has dominated the UFC quite like reigning middleweight champion Anderson Silva. In short, he has run roughshod over the 185-pound division, a record 13-fight winning streak inside the Octagon the result. Rich Franklin, Nate Marquardt, Dan Henderson, Forrest Griffin, Chael Sonnen and Demian Maia were all left in Silva’s destructive wake, as the Brazilian established himself as one of the greatest fighters of all-time.
And to think, it almost never happened.
According to longtime friend and training partner Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira, Silva almost called it quits before entering the UFC.

Quote of the Day: Urijah Faber Thinks Nick Diaz Would Beat GSP
Urijah Faber: “I’m going to go with Nick Diaz on that one, just because I don’t see GSP knocking him out. He’s never been knocked out and GSP’s been more into wrestling guys. I think that from watching Diaz, he’s super, super deceiving, and is able to pressure guys and make them get tired and fatigued like no one else........
Religion, Not Management, Keeping Khalidov from Bellator
Recent remarks from Bellator Fighting Championships Chairman and CEO Bjorn Rebney regarding negotiations with middleweight Mamed Khalidov have caused a bit of a stir in the Polish fight scene.
Asked during a May 14 news conference why Bellator had not yet signed the highly regarded free agent, Rebney cited a “lack of willingness” on the part of Khalidov’s management to work with his promotion, as well as a need to “explain to them what the opportunity is.”
Speaking to Sherdog.com this week, Khalidov was quick to assert that the breakdown in negotiations was not due to the unwillingness of his management but rather Khalidov’s own priorities outside the cage.
Bellator Posts Highest Rating on MTV2
Good news for Bjorn Rebney and his Bellator Fighting Championships. After weeks of hovering around the 200k mark, the promotion finally hit it big with 325,000 viewers for Bellator 44, delivering the largest Ages 18-49 rating for MTV2 in the timeslot. Which is great and all, until you remember that it's MTV2.
Shane Carwin Looks to Make the Most of His Sudden Good Fortune at UFC 131
Shane Carwin can pinpoint the exact moment he lost his UFC heavyweight title fight against Brock Lesnar. His record says submission via arm triangle, second round, but forget that. That's just when the fighting officially stopped. Really, he lost it in the first, when his body began to fail him.
"First time it's ever happened to me in my life," Carwin says in his soft, low voice that forces you to lean in just to catch what he's saying. "It was terrible."
It started with a strange feeling that flooded over him right as he was at his most dominant point in the fight. One minute he was focused entirely on pounding Lesnar into an early stoppage, and then the next thing he knew he was all too aware of his surroundings, and in all the wrong ways.
