Dana: WEC LW Division Eventually Headed To UFC
Although World Extreme Cagefighting officials have long touted the benefits of having their own lightweight division – the only weight class that overlaps with its sister promotion, the Ultimate Fighting Championship – a change could be on the way. In a recent interview with USA Today's Sergio Non, UFC president Dana White said the WEC's 155-pound weight class "eventually" will be folded into the bigger promotion. In the interview, in which White explains why the UFC has taken over production/commentating/announcing duties at WEC 48 (he said all Zuffa pay-per-view shows will be handled by the UFC's experienced PPV team), White also addressed the long-discussed 155-pound division. "I actually think it's kind of cool," he said. "I think eventually what we do is, we're going to continue to add to lighter weights, and you'll end up seeing these (WEC) guys go into the UFC, the 155 pounders. As for when it could happen, probably not before WEC ever goes forward with plans to implement a Flyweight division.
UFC's Brian Stann dropping to middleweight, hopes to fight in July or August
Brian Stann is tired of being an undersized light heavyweight in a division full of heavier takedown artists. So, he's moving to middleweight.
Stann, who today spoke to MMAjunkie.com from suburban Atlanta, said he "rolled the dice" against Phil Davis at UFC 109 but doesn't regret his decision to take a bad matchup on paper.
But the reason he took the fight might surprise you.

Barnett Not Scheduled For Today's CSAC Meeting, Drug Appeal Still Unresolved
Josh Barnett may wait this one out. The top-tier heavyweight is not on the agenda for a California State Athletic Commission's Tuesday meeting in Los Angeles, which means his long-delayed appeal of a fight-license denial this past July may not be heard before he is cleared to reapply. According to George Dodd, executive director of the CSAC, Barnett is free to reapply for a license on June 25, when he said the denial's term ends. However, Barnett may still be asked to appear at a commission meeting before that license is approved or denied. Fighters who test positive for steroids are not allowed to reapply for a license for one year, Dodd said.
UFC On Versus 2 On 8/1, 117 On 8/7
UFC has added 2 events to it's schedule in early August: They've reserved a Utah date for 8/1, which will be the 2nd UFC on Versus event, and an 8/7 date for Northern California. Neither show has been announced by UFC and no location confirmed for 8/7, but it could be in Oakland and possibly headlined by Anderson Silva vs. Chael Sonnen.
NSAC Approves 7/3 For UFC 116
UFC 116 is now official for July 3. The NSAC has approved UFC's request for an event on that date, which will be held at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. No matches were confirmed yet but Shane Carwin vs. Brock Lesnar is tentatively slotted for the event.
Tennessee Athletic Commission formally to investigate "Strikeforce: Nashville" brawl
The Tennessee Athletic Commission has launched an investigation into a post-event brawl that concluded the CBS-televised "Strikeforce: Nashville" event at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville this past weekend.
MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) today contacted Jeffrey Mullen, the commission's director, who declined to comment on the situation until the commission's investigation is complete.
No timetable was given, but the investigation could lead to disciplinary action for those involved.
Smith-Le 2, Possible, But Not Official, For SF Fedor vs. Werdum
A rematch between Scott Smith & Cung Le is being reported as possible for Strikeforce's June 26 event to be headlined by Fedor vs. Fabricio Werdum. But despite widespread reports of the fight, SF CEO Scott Coker announced Sunday that the fight is not yet official and has not been signed. If the fight happens, it will air on Showtime and could determine the next challenger for SF Middleweight Champion Jake Shields.
Jason "Mayhem" Miller Apologizes For Post-Strikeforce Brawl
Strikeforce: Nashville had it's share of criticism after the events of Saturday night.
Unfortunately, the fight card was overshadowed by the brawl between Jason "Mayhem" Miller and Jake Shields, Gilbert Melendez and the Diaz brothers.
Late Sunday night, Miller posted an apology on his website and addressed the situation.
Good move by Mayhem or is he being hung out to dry by SF?
I think a question that needs to be asked after this is after the events of the other night would Dana still consider signing Sheilds? As defensive as he is of MMA and it's image, is it too big a risk to have Shields posse at events?

Strikeforce Nashville: 2.63 million viewers
Bill Gorman of TVbytheNumbers reports that Strikeforce: Nashville earned a 1.0 rating and 3 share of the household from an average audience of 2.63 million viewers on CBS on Saturday.
FOX America’s Most Wanted 1.5 5 5.41
NBC Law & Order (repeat) 1.1 4 5.57
CBS Strikeforce Saturday Night Fights, 9-11p 1.0 3 2.63
CBS Strike Force Saturday Night Fights
9:00 p.m. – Viewers: 2.57 million (#4), A18-49: 0.8/ 3 (#4)
9:30 p.m. – Viewers: 2.55 million (#4), A18-49: 1.0/ 3 (#4)
10:00 p.m. – Viewers: 2.89 million (#3), A18-49: 1.2/ 4 (#2)
10:30 p.m. – Viewers: 2.52 million (#3), A18-49: 1.0/ 3 (#2)
The ratings are way down 30% compared to the last Strikeforce on CBS card which drew 3.79 million on average (a number that didn’t count the 5+ million that tuned in to watch Fedor fight). I’ll caution that we need to wait for some of the specific demo numbers, but those aren’t likely to be stellar...
Strikeforce exec says "Mayhem" Miller acted on his own, should have expected fallout
Much of the conversation in the mixed martial arts community following the incident has focused on assigning blame for the dust-up. While Coker was forced to speak about the incident before he had a chance to see it with his own eyes – the exec had already begun his transit to the evening's post-fight press conference when the trouble began – he believes Miller should have been able to foresee the consequences of his cage entrance.
"I didn't see it," Coker said. "I don't know how [Miller] got in there. But when you have the cornermen that Jake has, and something like that happens, you know there's going to be an issue. I don't know why he couldn't have thought that out because I could have told you that prior to them (brawling) that we should have kept them apart.

Mousasi Signs 2 Year Extension With Strikeforce
After hinting at it for about a month, Strikeforce Light Heavyweight Champion Gegard Mousasi has signed a 2-year extension with the promotion. The deal is for up to 4 fights in SF, down from an expected 7 before Mousasi split from M-1 Global in February. Mousasi will return to Japan after tomorrow's fight to participate in DREAM and wants to fight 6-8 times this year between DREAM & SF then only 3 times next year.
Nobody Cares About "Britney" Silva
Ouch...let the trash talk begin courtesy of Chael Sonnen. On Anderson Silva, possibly his next opponent, "I compare Anderson to Britney Spears. She shaved her head to get headlines. Britney Silva went up to 205, retired, etc. Nobody cares... When my music hits and the doors close, the fight's on. I'm not going to dance, juke or jive. I will find him... You know what you're getting with Silva. A guy who pretends he doesn't speak English, is a fantastic athlete, and acts like a fool. If you like that, go buy his t-shirt with the other two guys who like him."

More pink slips were handed out by UFC yesterday-in addition to confirming the expected release of Mustapha Al-Turk, Matt Veach & Rafaello Oliveira were also released. Veach & Al-Turk both had suffered the "Losing Streak Of Doom", with Al-Turk going 0-3 in UFC, while Oliveira was 1-2 after a loss to Andre Winner last month.
