Brian Stann injured, out of UFC on FOX 4 headliner with Hector Lombard
August's UFC on FOX 4 event needs a new headliner.
Middleweight Brian Stann (12-4 MMA, 6-3 UFC) is out of his scheduled five-round middleweight headliner with promotional newcomer Hector Lombard (31-2-1 MMA, 0-0 UFC) due to an injury.
A source close to the event today confirmed the scratch with MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com), though the UFC has made no official announcement.
UFC on FOX 4 takes place Aug. 4 at Staples Center in Los Angeles. The event's main card airs live on FOX while prelims go to FUEL TV and Facebook.
It was not immediately clear if Lombard, the reigning Bellator middleweight champion and a recent UFC import, will remain on the card and in the night's network-televised main event...
Greg Jackson Backs UFC Champ Jon Jones, Says ‘He’s Trying to do the Right Thing’
UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones smashed his car into a pole in the early morning hours of May 19 in Binghamton, N.Y. He was arrested under suspicion of DWI, for which he later plead guilty, accepting a plea bargain.
While fan reaction has been mixed, Jones has received support from his manager, Malki Kawa, and his boss, UFC president Dana White.
The latest addition to the list of those that continue to publicly back Jones is his coach, Greg Jackson, who recently addressed the issue on HDNet’s InsideMMA.
Running with the bulls? UFC on FX 3's Charlie Brenneman has other concerns
"The Spaniard" will be taking a trip to Spain soon, but instead of thinking about a bout against bulls, Charlie Brenneman (15-3 MMA, 4-2 UFC) is focusing all his attention on up-and-coming Brazilian welterweight Erick Silva (13-2 MMA, 1-1 UFC).
"I don't know if I can say he's overrated because we don't know if he's going to produce or not yet," Brenneman told MMAjunkie.com Radio (www.mmajunkie.com/radio) prior to Friday's UFC on FX 3 co-headliner. "His steam is a little ahead of his production. He's definitely got a lot of talent.
"Last time I was in this kind of situation, I came out with flying colors, and I hope this goes the same way."
UFC on FX 3 takes place Friday at BankAtlantic Center in Sunrise, Fla. In addition to the FX-televised main card, FUEL TV and Facebook carry the night's prelims.
UFC 148's Faber on Barao's win streak: Which out of those 28 guys would I have lost to?
UFC bantamweight contender Renan Barao (28-1 MMA, 3-0 UFC) currently boasts one of the sport's all-time-best win streaks after downing 28 straight opponents.
Worth a mention, says his upcoming opponent, Urijah Faber (26-5 MMA, 2-1 UFC), but "The California Kid" warns against putting too much stock in the gaudy run.
"People give Barao a lot of credit for a 28-fight win streak, which is incredible, but which out of those 28 guys would I have lost to?" Faber asked MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com). "None of them. He's never beat anybody like me, so this is going to to be the biggest test of his life."
UFC 148 takes place July 7 at MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. Main-card fights air live on pay-per-view while FX and Facebook are expected to carry the prelims.
With Jon Fitch out, Aaron Simpson draws Kenny Robertson at UFC on FUEL TV 4
As expected, Aaron Simpson will still fight at UFC on FUEL TV 4, and onetime UFC vet Kenny Robertson is the lucky recipient of a return trip to the octagon for the matchup.
Simpson, of course, was originally expected to face Jon Fitch but a knee injury forced the longtime American Kickboxing Academy member to withdraw from the bout.
The new contest was announced on Tuesday's new edition of FUEL TV's "UFC Tonight."

Apparently B.J. Penn is going to come out of his short-lived layoff from the sport to accept a challenge from a top prospect. Yesterday, Rory MacDonald was a guest on The MMA Hour and issued a respectful challenge to the future Hall of Famer. UFC light heavyweight Alexander ‘The Mauler’ Gustafsson (14-1) will not be available to return to the Octagon until this October due to a broken hand, this according to former UFC champ Mauricio ‘Shogun’ Rua who posted the news on Facebook recently.
Rua was discussing available possible opponents for his upcoming UFC 149 appearance in Calgary, Alberta after his original opponent, Thiago Silva, was forced to withdraw due to injury.
The original message was posted by ‘Shogun’ on his Facebook.com/MauricioRua.Shogun in Portuguese, and was re-posted by BloodyElbow.com with an English translation Monday night.
Heavyweight Brett Rogers signs with Bellator, debuts at Bellator 71
Former Strikeforce heavyweight Brett Rogers (11-4 MMA, 0-0 BFC) has signed with Bellator and will make his promotional debut later this month at Bellator 71.
Bellator officials today announced the signing, though an opponent wasn't disclosed.
Rogers is stuck in a 1-4 skid and hasn't fought since September, due in part to his arrest stemming from a domestic dispute. However, he said those issues are now behind him.
Rogers ultimately was sentenced to 60 days in jail after he pleaded guilty to a single count of felony third-degree assault following a September incident with his wife and kid.
Bellator 72, which kicks off the organization's three-event "Summer Series," takes place June 22 at Mountaineer Casino, Racetrack and Resort in Chester, W.V. The night's main card airs on MTV2, and Spike.com carries the prelims. It's not clear where Rogers will end up on the lineup...
Ian McCall Ready to Be Done with Demetrious Johnson and Move On to the Title
Rematches are a tough prospect for any athlete, team or organization in any sport, and it’s no different in mixed martial arts.
If you beat someone, it’s hard to go back and duplicate that same performance a second time. But in the case of the UFC on FX 3 headliner between Ian McCall and Demetrious Johnson, they’re going to fight again on June 8 because a few judges in Australia couldn’t quite add a scorecard.
For the first time ever, the UFC installed a “sudden victory” round for a regular event as the flyweight title tournament kicked off in March in the land down under. Essentially the rule was created as a fail safe so in case one of the two tournament bouts ended in a draw, there would be a final fourth round to determine the winner, that way there would be no delay in the tournament being completed.

The Ultimate Fighter Live Finale fighter salaries were released to MMAWeekly.com on Monday by the Nevada Athletic Commission.
The main event at Friday’s event featured Martin Kampmann continuing his assencion towards title contention by finishing Jake Ellenberger in the second round.
Michael Chiesa became The Ultimate Fighter with his submission of Al Iaquinta in the fifteenth season finale of the venerable reality series.
The following figures are based on the fighter salary information that promoters are required by law to submit to the state athletic commissions, including the winners’ bonuses.
Bisping reveals UFC discussion over title shot
Michael Bisping described to ESPN over the weekend a recent chat he had with the UFC's top brass, which appeared to hint he might get the next middleweight title shot, if Chael Sonnen beats Anderson Silva.
Bisping was one win away from booking his shot at UFC gold when he fought Sonnen in January. The decision of that three-round war went Sonnen's way, but UFC president Dana White felt Bisping won.
Sonnen is now preparing to meet champion Silva, while Bisping must continue to press his claims against Tim Boetsch. If the Brit wins, there is nobody making a stronger case than him to get that next title shot - despite the fact the last fight on his record is a loss.
Shogun's camp deny he turned down Teixeira at UFC 149
Confusion surrounds the camp of Mauricio Shogun Rua after UFC president Dana White claimed the Brazilian turned down a fight with Glover Teixeira.
Shogun had been supposed to fight Thiago Silva at UFC 149, but Silva is out of the fight due to injury. Although not officially confirmed by the UFC, Shogun is widely believed to be without an opponent.
White recently told MMA Junkie: "With Thiago hurt, we turned to Glover and asked him to go right back in to fight Shogun at UFC 149. But Shogun's people are adamantly refusing to take the fight. They want nothing to do with Glover."
Dos Santos will fight Jon Jones if asked by the UFC
Junior Dos Santos has uttered the words that Dana White will love to hear, revealing he will fight Jon Jones if the situation arises.
Dos Santos is currently the King of the UFC heavyweight division, having made a first successful defence of his belt against Frank Mir. He is expected to rematch Cain Velasquez next, after which there are few obvious challengers.
The clamour is growing for Jones, the light-heavyweight champion, to step up in weight to fight the Brazilian as he too finds himself running out of title contenders. Jones fights Dan Henderson at UFC 151, and he has confessed a desire to switch weights in 2013.
UFC on FX 3's Seth Baczynski credits Brad Tavares for career turnaround
Seth Baczynski can thank Brad Tavares for his current run at welterweight.
After losing a first bout to the Hawaiian fighter by disqualification on "The Ultimate Fighter 11" and getting smothered in a rematch at the conclusion of the reality show, Baczynski thought about hanging it up.
"I didn't want to be one of those guys bouncing around on the small shows for a paycheck," Baczynski told MMAjunkie.com Radio.
Friday's UFC on FX 3 event gets two prelims on Facebook
Two fights from Friday's UFC on FX 3 card will kick off the night on Facebook.
The online stream precedes the night's FX-televised main card and FUEL TV-televised preliminary card, MMAjunkie.com confirmed with UFC officials.
The two bouts chosen for the one-hour stream include welterweights Sean Pierson vs. Jake Hecht and lightweights Bernardo Magalhaes vs. Henry Martinez.
Rory MacDonald wants to fight BJ Penn
Rory MacDonald is usually the quiet type, but with the UFC welterweight division currently a jumbled mess with little clarity, the rising prospect isn't waiting around to see what might be next for him. Instead, when it comes to his next opponent, he has a request, and a very specific one.
"Right now I feel there’s a guy that I want to fight before he leaves the sport and that’s B.J. Penn," he said on Monday's edition of The MMA Hour. "That’s a guy I really want to fight. I respect him a lot. He’s a legend and I think it’d be a really good matchup for me to have that fight in Toronto."
MacDonald made sure to note this was a respectful request and not a "call out" of a future Hall of Famer.
Penn has been on the shelf since losing to Nick Diaz last October at UFC 137. Afterward, he said he would retire rather than fight again, but in recent weeks, he's backtracked on that, most recently saying on a May 29 episode of UFC Tonight that he was "warming up to the idea" of a comeback.
Looks like part 2 of the av bet DD, I think I'll change my av now!
