Mike Kyle vs. Gegard Mousasi possible for September Strikeforce event
(mmajunkie.com)
A matchup pitting former Strikeforce light-heavyweight champ Gegard Mousasi (30-3-2 MMA, 2-1-1 SF) against Mike Kyle (18-8-1 MMA, 2-3-1 SF) could be headed to the promotion's fall lineup. The pair were supposed to fight this past April at "Strikeforce: Diaz vs. Daley" before Kyle was forced to withdraw with a broken hand. In his place stepped Keith Jardine, who fought Mousasi to a draw. The fight could take place at a yet-unnamed Strikeforce event slated for Sept. 10 that's expected to feature a middleweight title fight between current champ Ronaldo "Jacare" Souza and Luke Rockhold, though at this point, the date is not finalized.

UFC on Versus 4: Pat Barry Faces Important Test in Cheick Kongo
(bloodyelbow.com)
At this Sunday's UFC on Versus 4, the semi-main event will be a clash of Heavyweights as Pat Barry faces Cheick Kongo. Both men come into the fight with strong stand-up skills and professional kickboxing experience - a point which will surely be much discussed in the lead-up to the fight. Yet while the two fighters have a similar background, what they have chosen to do with those backgrounds is very different, and it is this difference that makes this such a pivotal fight in the career of Pat Barry.

Fabricio Werdum: Alistair Overeem Did Not Beat Me, I Lost On My Own
(bloodyelbow.com)
Fabricio Werdum lost a unanimous decision to Alistair Overeem in the first round of Strikeforce's Heavyweight Grand Prix at Strikeforce: Overeem vs Werdum last Saturday. Werdum spent most of the fight on his back, either with Overeem in his guard or flopping to his back, begging the Dutchman to follow him down. It was a less than fan-pleasing performance. Werdum spoke to Brazilian MMA site Portal do Vale Tudo and explained his strategy and what went wrong in the fight: I tried to knock him out, I showed that I was doing well in the stand-up, but I also wanted to do the fight in the ground, because I was very confident in my jiu-jitsu. It ended up being really bad to pull guard all the time, I burned a lot of energy, it was not good. When I was successful in the very end of the rounds, I found myself without much strength. I'm just amazed that no one will go to the ground with me even though I'll stand with everyone. This happens all the time. Even at striking I did not see the K-1 champion that knocks everyone out show up, he did not show much, he did not throw any strikes meant for knock downs, and as Fight Metrics showed I was able to throw more strikes. I made the mistake to pull guard too much, to want to finish it any way. The fight was not good for either of us, but he did not beat me, I lost (on my own).

Miesha Tate: Marloes Coenen Got 'Exposed' in Her Last Fight
(mmafighting.com)
By the time Miesha Tate steps in the cage to challenge for Marloes Coenen's Strikeforce women's welterweight title on July 30, it will have been nearly a year since her last fight. For most fighters, that's about the point where the dreaded ring rust starts to be an issue. But in this case, at least according to Tate, inactivity might prove to be a virtue. "I've had a lot of opportunity to study her and see where her game is at," Tate said of Coenen. "This time, since I haven't fought for a year, I think it will benefit me because she'll be expecting and game-planning and preparing for the fighter I was a year ago. I switched camps, I've been training in Sacramento with Urijah Faber and Chad Mendes and Brian [Caraway] and all the guys at Team Alpha Male, and the amount of growth I've had in this past year, I'm just a completely different fighter."

Vancouver Riots Blamed on UFC, NHL By School Board Chair
(bloodyelbow.com)
In a move that's all too predictable, a Vancouver school board chair named Patti Bacchus has found the time to point the finger at the UFC for their role in the Vancouver riots. The riots started after the Vancouver Canucks lost game seven of the NHL Stanley Cup finals to the Boston Bruins. The following days saw authorities blaming everything from "roving gangs of youths" to "anarchists" all while trying to minimize that it was, more than likely, a stupid mixed group of Canucks fans and people just looking to make trouble. The most recent attempt to blame the UFC is probably the most absurd, however. Via the Vancouver Courier (by way of Yahoo's Puckdaddy): "The painted faces and hockey itself-it's aggressive, they celebrate the brawling on ice, it's winning, it's dominance. If kids are all watching a UFC game and cheering someone for bloodying up someone else's face, how big a leap is that from cheering on someone smashing a window? It's very mixed messages we're sending to young people who are still in a stage of developing their impulse control and moral development."

Jorge Rivera Talks Possible Retirement, Michael Bisping
(bloodyelbow.com)
UFC middleweight Jorge Rivera might be near the end of the line. The 39-year-old veteran is coming off a loss to Michael Bisping, and his thoughts are apparently creeping towards retirement. He spoke to the Boston Herald about his ten-year MMA career and what might happen with his career after his fight with Alessio Sakara at UFC 133: "I've been thinking that this might be the last fight. I'm going to give it all I've got," Rivera said. "The last fight left me kind of flat. Other than being sick of fighting, I'm not sure I want to do that. I'm getting to 40-years-old now. I don't want to be taking unnecessary blows to the head. I want to come out with a W and maybe take one or two big fights and then I'm done."

UFC 132's Chris Leben doesn't like fighting, despite all evidence to the contrary
(mmajunkie.com)
Chris Leben will be the first to tell you he doesn't have issues; he's got subscriptions. Fighting used to be something that not only gave him the opportunity to prove himself, but maybe – just maybe – unburden himself of those issues in the most physical way possible. That was years ago, though. A decade after getting into the sport, he's mellowed, and he fights for different reasons, as he today told MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com).

Strikeforce Challengers 16's Lorenz Larkin in no rush to the top
(mmajunkie.com)
Undefeated Lorenz Larkin made one of the most impressive debuts in recent Strikeforce history when he defeated Scott Lighty at Strikeforce Challengers 15. Even more impressive than the vicious second-round TKO was the fact that Larkin took the fight on just a week's notice. And though the fast-rising light heavyweight can further bolster his top-prospect status at Friday's Showtime Challengers 16 event, the Californian told MMAjunkie.com Radio (www.mmajunkie.com/radio) he's simply enjoying the ride.

After a tough year, a re-motivated Wanderlei Silva returns at UFC 132
(mmajunkie.com)
Sitting on the sidelines is hard for any fighter, but when you're Wanderlei Silva, it's excruciating. One of the most beloved figures in the sport, Silva gets messages daily from fans who want to see him return to the cage sooner than later. For the past year, though, he's been unable to oblige those requests. Injuries have kept Silva (33-10-1 MMA, 3-5 UFC) out of the spotlight for 17 months, and now that he's back, he wants to please his fans as much as he wants to beat Chris Leben (21-7 MMA, 11-6 UFC), whom he faces at UFC 132.

UFC Quick Quote: Anthony Pettis is overrated
(mmamania.com)
Streaking UFC lightweight Donald Cerrone (15-3) tells Pro MMA Radio he agrees with Gray Maynard's recent assessment of Anthony Pettis. "The Bully" balked at the idea of "Showtime" getting a UFC lightweight title fight after his five round win (and highlight reel kick) over Ben Henderson under the now-defunct WEC banner. Pettis coughed up his number one contender status when he came off the bench to answer the call of Clay Guida at the Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 13 Finale earlier this month after he was unable to saw his way through "The Carpenter's" wooden top control. Is Cerrone unjustly hating on his fellow WEC import? Follow link for quote
