Rebney: 'Ridiculously one-dimensional' champ Askren will dominate if in UFC
So far, it hasn't been the same kind of controversy that Bellator MMA experienced with Eddie Alvarez's free agency.
What will happen to the promotion's welterweight champion, Ben Askren, remains to be seen. But Bellator CEO Bjorn Rebney believes the elite-level wrestler will continue having success if he stays or if he goes.
At this point, backhanded compliments might be just part of the game...
In search for life after fighting, Danny Downes remakes himself as an MMA writer
Danny Downes got the news in a text message. He'd been expecting it, and he thought he was ready for it, but he thought wrong.
This was the fall of 2011, a little more than a month after his second loss in as many attempts with the UFC. Before that he'd gone 1-1 in the WEC, beating the much-hyped Chinese import Tiequan Zhang via unanimous decision in the organization's final event.
But 0-2 in the UFC? "Danny Boy" could do the math. He knew he was likely on the chopping block, but the UFC's upcoming event in his hometown of Chicago that January gave him some faint hope. Attila Vegh situation 'taken out of context'
The saga between light heavyweight contender Attila Vegh and Bellator over whether or not Vegh was being replaced for his upcoming bout with Emanuel Newton due to an injury or a "business decision" was nothing more than a miscommunication, according to Bellator's CEO Bjorn Rebney.
Vegh was slated to fight Newton at Bellator 106 in Long Beach, Calif., which will mark Bellator's foray into the pay-per-view market. Things got murky when he was replaced with Muhammed Lawal, who was knocked out by Newton back in July 2012 in his promotional debut. Lawal, of course, has more star power than Vegh, and a rematch with Newton translates into better intrigue, especially with the interim belt hanging in the balance...
