As odd as it is to hear, the “former” UFC Light Heavyweight Champion, Chuck Liddell joined MMAWeekly’s SoundOff Radio last week for the first time since his disappointing 1st round KO loss to Quinton ‘Rampage’ Jackson. LINK

Who’s Now? It’s got to be 'The Natural'
What makes an Ultimate Sports Star? That’s what ESPN is attempting to find out this summer when it puts together 32 professional athletes from fan nominations, groups them in brackets, NCAA tournament style, and then eliminates them, matchup by matchup, until a winner is crowned. Link

Tommy Morrison; “I Just Have to Keep Winning”
Last Saturday, Tommy “The Duke” Morrison stepped into the Octagon for the first time ever, but this was not a normal mixed martial arts contest. Morrison drew a lot of criticism for allegedly “changing the rules” at the last minute for his bout with John Stover, which Morrison ultimately won by knockout in the first round. Here, Morrison explains that the fight was never to be anything more than a hands-only stand up striking match. He also refutes the claims by his former “attorney”/agent/publicist Randy Lang that he is HIV positive. Read on to see what Morrison has to say on these and other topics. Link

Blood on the Asphalt: The Hypocrisy of MMA Opponents
link Brandon Garner is a professional mixed martial artist training North Carolina. But the 145-pounder, with a 4-1, record can't compete in his home state. The Tar Heel state's legislature banned MMA after UFC 5 was held in Charlotte back in 1995, deeming it something akin to human cockfighting. Yet there's nothing stopping Garner from heading over to one of the local motor speedways and entering his family car into a completely legal auto race. All he, or anybody else 14-years or older, has to do is sign some papers and pay a small fee. No proof of skill required. Or health. Or anything else, really.

Bas Rutten Says Kimbo is a Great Fighter
link Bas Rutten, posting at the Sherdog Forums, says Kimbo is one of the hardest-working fighters he's seen: OK guys, I have to say something here. I am training Kimbo right now, and I have to say that he is one of the BEST fighters I have EVER trained. He really listens to you and does what you say, do you know how hard that it? If he's dead tired, and I tell him five more rounds, he looks at me, but doesn't say anything, he just does it.

More UFC 72 press conference notes
link Those who will be receiving bonuses include Tyson Griffin and Clay Guida for “Fight of the Night,” Marcus Davis for “Knockout of the Night,” and Ed Herman for “Submission of the Night.” During a post-fight interview with UFC.com, Davis said he’d like to fight Takanori Gomi. I don’t think the match will ever happen, but it’s still interesting.

White: Tito didn’t want to fight Forrest
link On Saturday, UFC president Dana White continued his campaign of trying to kill the credibility of one of his biggest draws, Tito Ortiz. According to Iole, White tried to match Ortiz up with Forrest Griffin when they first began putting together the card for UFC. Ortiz declined. “Tito didn’t want to come over here, the big sissy,” White said. Forrest said after yesterday’s win over Hector Ramirez that he would welcome a rematch. Report: Vitale to replace “Ninja” Rua
link Josh Gross from Sherdog.com is reporting that Niko Vitale has been tabbed to replace Murilo “Ninja” Rua to fight Joey Villasenor on the undercard of the Frank Shamrock vs. Phil Baroni main event this Friday. Rua was taken off the card after he was unable to pass a physical that was administered by the California State Athletic Commission. The article quotes Ken Pavia, the manager for Vitale, as saying that the fight will be non-title due to the fact that Vitale is a late addition to the card. Villasenor vs. Rua had originally been scheduled as a five-round bout to declare a winner of the vacant EliteXC middleweight title.

Bodog Fight Billionaire Makes UFC President an Offer He Can’t Refuse
link In response to recent comments made by Ultimate Fighting Championship president Dana White, Bodog Fight founder Calvin Ayre is pleased to extend a once-in-a-lifetime offer to his mixed martial arts rival. White’s unfortunate public diatribe included slanderous comments about the Canadian billionaire, referring to the online gaming mogul as a “criminal”. The notoriously bald UFC promoter goes on to liken Mr. Ayre to a Richard Pryor character, stating “he’s like that guy in Brewster’s Millions who is trying to spend all his money in 48 hours.” With July 14th’s Bodog Fight: Eddie Alvarez vs. Matt Lee marking Ayre’s first event on U.S. soil, the digital entertainment icon is referencing another Hollywood film, The Godfather, by making White “an offer he can’t refuse.”

Frank Trigg “Twinkle Toes” Interview
Marlene: You’ve done a great job commentating on Pride Fights for FSN, are we looking to see you commentating for a while? Frank: I have no idea! I have no idea what’s going on with Pride, like everybody else right now, I’m trying to figure out what’s going to happen next with the UFC/Pride merger. I’m just waiting to find my place or if I have a spot there at all. Marlene: How’s your training coming along? Frank: I’ve been doing a lot of exercising, a lot of jiu jitsu training with John Luis. I start going back in the ring next week with Randy Couture doing a little light sparring. I really don’t have anything coming up in the near future so I’m not worried about what’s going on. Marlene: Will we be seeing you back in the welter weight division or do you see yourself more in the middle weight division? Frank: I prefer to stay at middleweight, I’m happier and it’s easier for me to make the weight and I get to have a little fun. Training is more fun when I’m at 185, when I was down to 170 it hurt all the time, I just feel better when I’m up. Marlene: Will you tell me more about your fight in Pride against Kazuo Misaki? I know he won against Dan Henderson. L=http://www.onthemat.com/articles/Frank_Trigg_Twinkle_Toes_Interview_06_14_2007.html]link[/L]

Renzo ashamed of cousin Royce
Link to Blog

Wow. The Gracie Train is falling apart faster than Amtrack. On an interview with Taggradio , cousin Renzo does not mince his words, stating that Royce should be "ashamed" of 'supplementing' the Gracie Diet and commenting that Royce has been distancing himself from The Family.

Gracie Maintains Innocence Regarding CSAC Results.
Of the mixed martial artists that fought June 2 at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, MMA pioneer Royce Gracie (Pictures) was likely the last man anyone would have tabbed a steroid user. However, on Thursday, that veneer was crushed when the California State Athletic Commission revealed the 40-year-old Brazilian tested positive in both "A" and "B" samples for traces of Nandrolone, a commonly used anabolic steroid. link

Rich Franklin - Money Player
Rich Franklin’s a helluva guy, but despite that soft-spoken demeanor, the former UFC middleweight champion doesn’t play well with others. In fact, when it comes to his athletic life, he’s downright selfish. In other words, he would never be the sixth man in basketball, the setup reliever in baseball, or the offensive lineman in football. Rich Franklin has to be the star, the man with the ball when time’s running out, the one upon whose shoulders rests victory or defeat. LINK
