EliteXC,CSAC at odds over Diaz removal
(sherdog.com)
Nick Diaz (Pictures) will not fight Saturday night in San Jose, Calif., nor will he collect the $50,000 purse he was set to receive for his bout against South Korea's Jae Suk Lim (Pictures). California State Athletic Commission executive officer Armando Garcia made that determination Wednesday. Why? It depends on whom you ask. "He did not turn in his medical information in time for the fight," said Garcia, confirming an MMAWeekly report that Diaz was removed from the Showtime-televised card. "They were just turned in today."

Matt Serra: Pierre I was no fluke!
(mmamania.com)
“It is crazy! Last year may have been an upset but, believe me, it was no fluke. What is a ‘lucky punch?’ Who do these people think I was trying to punch in the face if not Georges? Seriously – where did the luck come into it? I got him hurt and didn’t let him off the hook. Seriously, you tell me, if you aim at something, and then hit it time and time again, was it luck or did you just do what you were trying to do?… All the pressure is on GSP. He has to live up to all this BS about him, he has to step into the Octagon with a man who punched his lights out last time. I’m rematching a guy I beat inside one round, where’s the pressure? No-one is looking at me to do anything, for whatever reason, so there’s zero pressure on me.” UFC Welterweight Champion Matt Serra makes the case for his rematch with Georges St. Pierre at UFC 83 in Montreal, Quebec, at the Bell Centre on April 19. It’s hard to disagree with the statement above, which is not to say that Serra is going to win. He just makes a good point. Full story

YAMMA Loses Another One
(cagepotato.com)
“Big Daddy” Goodridge If you’re Bob Meyrowitz, at what point do you just throw your hands up and say, “Alright, God didn’t want me to put together a new MMA league; I’m cursed, and my bowl-shaped ring surface is ******* gay.” Because if we were in his shoes, this would be that point. According to TheFightNetwork, Gary Goodridge’s manager Dave Wallace has announced that Goodridge will not be fighting Eric “Butterbean” Esch in a headlining “Master’s Division” match at YAMMA Pit Fighting’s debut event on April 11th, and has chosen instead to focus on a May 9th fight against Eric Pele at a Maximum Fighting Championship card in Alberta, Canada.

EliteXC's Hawaii Event Postponed to June
(mmajunkie.com)
A Hawaiian-based EliteXC show tentatively planned for April 26 has been pushed back to June 14. EliteXC Live Events President Gary Shaw first mentioned the possibility of the April event during a media conference call earlier this year. However, according to fiveouncesofpain.com, the April show has been scratched completely and will be replaced by a June 14 date. The organization has not yet announced a definite location or venue for the rescheduled event. The June 14 event will likely feature a fight between highly ranked welterweight Jake Shields and veteran Drew Fickett. That fight was supposed to take place Saturday at the Strikeforce/EliteXC co-promoted show, but Shields pulled out of the event on Tuesday due to a back injury. Fickett could now be scratched from the event completely. The June event will also feature a title fight between EliteXC lightweight champion KJ Noons and challenger Yves Edwards, a bout that was originally scheduled for April, according to The Fight Network. Although not regulated by a state athletic commission, MMA has a fanatical following in Hawaii, where organizations such as ICON Sport thrive.

I didn't really notice before but when I was walking down to the ring, it was like I could hear each person's voice, the cheering hitting my ears, which was a mysterious feeling. The place felt like it was one, an atmosphere that can't be experienced at a UFC arena.

RR Star - Local Mixed Martial Arts fighter to showcase talent in Las Vegas
(rrstar.com)
Ryan Stonitsch might not feel it, but the pressure will be there when he steps Wednesday onto the big stage in Las Vegas for his first World Extreme Cagefighting match. That’s just how it is when you’re the first local to get a big-time Mixed Martial Arts fight outside of the Midwest. “Oh, I feel it. I know there’s a whole lot of fighters from around Rockford watching to see how I do. This could be a chance to show everybody out there in Vegas, and in MMA, that guys from Rockford need to be reckoned with,” said the 31-year-old Stonitsch who is part of Wednesday’s WEC eight-bout card inside the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino. I wish him the best, I used to live around the Rockford area and I'll be rooting for him. Looks to have the skill set to stop Alex. Should be a good fight!

Marine aims to add WEC title to Silver Star
(usatoday.com)
Calling World Extreme Cagefighting's Brian Stann battle-tested is misleading. In one way, he isn't. And in another, more profound way, he is. At 5-0, Stann's victories have come in the first round either by knockout or TKO. He hasn't exactly been challenged. But in his day job, Stann knows what it is like to fight when the stakes are life and death.

Ed Ratcliff – Bringing the Heat to Vegas Tonight
(wec.tv)
Yeah, “9mm” is a cool nickname, one of the best in mixed martial arts today. But when you find out why WEC lightweight contender Ed Ratcliff used to be called “The Blade”, it’s even more impressive. “I do a front flip and come down with an axe kick to the body,” laughs Ratcliff of the move performed on a prone opponent when usually leg kicks suffice as an offensive weapon. “We call that the sling blade.” Wow. Pretty impressive. But has he ever pulled it off in a fight? “Twice,” he said. “I missed once but I landed it on the next guy.”

Din Thomas: Design of a Decade
(ufc.com)
n October of this year, Din Thomas officially makes ten years as a mixed martial arts magician. Within that time the UFC has changed hands, sparked popular culture interest and landed its flag in the heart of the Queen’s land. Names have brightened and interchangeably waned dim with some being lost in history’s rear view. For these reasons, fans celebrate the athletes who have sacrificed tirelessly to remain relevant through the years. Din Thomas, a stalwart survivor, is now the reluctant picture of such celebrated longevity.
