Cro Cop Has opponent!
(mma-id.com)
A little over an hour ago I was contacted by DREAM officials. They informed me that my opponent on March 15 will be Yoshihiro Nakao from Japan. It was very important for me to fight as soon as possible and I'm happy that DREAM was able to find the opponent for me. For those of you who don't know, Nakao is the guy who kissed Herring.

Kevin Randleman to make MMA return and could fight Jeff Monson
(mmamania.com)
Former UFC heavyweight champion, Kevin Randleman, is in negotiations to ink a deal with the Japanese-based World Victory Road promotion to make a return to mixed martial arts action on May 18, according to MMAWeekly.com. In addition, “The Monster” revealed during the interview that it’s also possible that he will take on Jeff Monson one month later during a Global Fighting Championships (GFC) event penciled in for sometime in June. That’s an ambitious schedule for a fighter who has not competed since 2006 — a submission loss to Mauricio “Shogun” Rua at Pride 32: “The Real Deal.” Not to mention Randleman recently survived a SERIOUS staph infection that could have killed him if went untreated. Randleman — who is now training with XTreme Couture out of Las Vegas — was also recently stopped for Driving Under the Influence (DUI), intimidating a public officer and other charges in Sin City. He has satisfied a one-year suspension from the Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC) for providing a non-human urine sample following his loss to Rua. The two-time NCAA Division I Wrestling Champion from Ohio State University defeated Pete Williams at UFC 23 in 1999 to capture the vacant heavyweight title. Randleman’s title reign was brief, however, when Randy Couture stopped him the following year via technical knockout (strikes) at UFC 28 in round three of their championship bout. Best of luck on the comeback, Kevin. These last two years have been rough … it’d be nice to see you enjoy some success.

HEATH HERRING DISCUSSES KONGO, FUTURE
(mmaweekly.com)
Even Herring, with nearly 60 professional fights, was surprised at the game plan of Kongo, who seemed to be primed for a striking war. “It actually took me towards the end of the first round to even figure out what was happening at that time,” said Herring in an interview with MMAWeekly Radio. “I had trained pretty much exclusively for a stand-up fight and we were in the middle of a wrestling match. It was pretty shocking.” Kongo’s strategy made Herring dig deep to find new ways to win the fight and he complimented the game plan, but says that his own power at the beginning of the first round may have played into the ground attack also. “I think maybe a lot of it had to do to with the fact that we landed that straight right early on and it might have just kind of taken the wind out of him,” he stated. In both the second and third rounds, Herring was able to take side control on Kongo and began reigning down knee strikes to the body, but the Texas native admitted after the fight that he wished he had a different set of rules while working in that position. “The crowd seemed to get really, really excited when I would raise that one knee above his head, and I was kind of playing to the crowd a little bit on that,” he admitted. “I’m really missing those Pride rules. It would have been awesome to finish that fight in the second round with knees to the head.”

Tito Ortiz Casting for "Anytown Throwdown" Reality Show
(mmajunkie.com)
UFC light heavyweight Tito Ortiz will give reality television a second chance. Ortiz, who was eliminated during this past week's episode of "The Celebrity Apprentice," is currently casting for a new reality show entitled "Anytown Throwdown" for the G4 cable station. One of the show's casting consultants today revealed some details of the show exclusively to MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com). The reality series allows contestants to settle a dispute in the most basic of ways: they duke it up. Ortiz, who serves as the show's host, will train the participants during the build-up for each show-ending bout. However, the show's producers are still figuring out the exact details of how the fights will be structured.

Swoosh ... Hello Mainstream Rampage doing an add for Nike.
(sherdog.com)
If there were any lingering doubts as to whether mixed martial arts had hit mainstream America, that issue has been decided in the past seven days. Quinton Jackson (Pictures) will join LeBron James and other star athletes this weekend in Los Angeles to film a Nike commercial dubbed "Human Chain," Sherdog.com has learned. The spot, featuring a premise of "overachieving with victory, getting knocked down and getting back up," said Jackson's trainer Juanito Ibarra, will be the second Nike ad to showcase a mixed martial artist. Randy Couture (Pictures) became the first in a 1996 spot called "Scars" that featured close-ups of his famously cauliflowered ears.

Diego Sanchez wants Josh Koscheck next in June or July
(mmamania.com)

“One that would be big for my heart and soul would be Josh Koscheck. The number one question that everyone always asks me is, ‘When are you going to kick that Josh Koscheck’s ass?’ So hopefully, maybe in June or July, we can go ahead and set that fight up.”
“The Nightmare,” unsurprisingly, wants to avenge his miserable-looking, staph infection-induced unanimous decision loss to Josh Koscheck at UFC 69: “Shootout” back in April 2007 now that he’s snapped a two-fight losing skid. Sanchez recently defeated David Bielkheden via technical knockout at UFC 82: “Pride of a Champion.” For “Kos” and Sanchez this would be their third encounter if it happens — Sanchez topped Koscheck in an exhibition match on The Ultimate Fighter (TUF). However, Koscheck’s contract is up and he will need to sign an extension before any bouts including him are booked inside the Octagon.

LINDLAND DISCUSSES EXODUS FROM BODOG FIGHT
(mmaweekly.com)
Lindland last competed in April of 2007 against Fedor Emelianenko in BodogFight: Clash of Nations in St. Petersburg, Russia. He has spent the last ten months expecting two more bouts and two more paydays. Neither came to fruition. "I lived up to my end of the bargain," said the Greco-Roman wrestling Olympic silver-medalist. "I haven't fought since April, anticipating two more fights with Bodog. "I was exclusive with them for that period of time. That's why I hadn't done any negotiations outside of that contract. I was upholding my end of the bargain and dealing with them with integrity and honesty. I was being forthright, but they weren't doing such. It was very difficult. "

Rua Re-Injures Knee, Out of UFC 85
(ufc.com)
Scheduled to make his return to the Octagon this June against Chuck Liddell at UFC 85 in London, light heavyweight star Mauricio “Shogun” Rua has instead been forced to withdraw from the bout due to a ruptured ACL in his left knee, the same injury he had surgery on to repair last October after his UFC 76 fight with Forrest Griffin. Surgery on the injured knee will be scheduled shortly, and there is no word on when Rua will be cleared to return to the Octagon.

MMA Fan's conversation with Kim and Randy: Forrest ko'd kimbo in sparring and he never came back
(sherdog.net)
Hey guys, I don't know if you remember my old thread a while ago when I paid a visit to Randy Couture at his grand opening of his Wellington Xtreme Couture gym in Wellington, FL, but I had a chance to go see him again today and it was quite the journey. First off, me and my buddies got back at around 2 after the fights and went to bed and woke up at 5 to drive to Wellington in order to make it there at the opening time, which was 10 AM. From Gainesville, it's about a 4-4.5 hour drive with a stop for food, bathroom, etc. It was brutal. With 3 hours of sleep I drove 4.5 hours there and stayed from 10AM to when the event was over at 4 PM and then drove back and now I'm here, nearly dead. Anyways, I got a chance to talk to both Randy and Kim for about an hour each 1-on-1. I got a lot of interesting information and cool stuff. I'm just going to list it because I'm far too tired to organize it any other way. Randy: Wanderlei is preparing for Jardine, working vastly on wrestling and an "effective gameplan." Ray Sefo and Jan Nortje has started training @ Xtreme Couture in Vegas. Randy is happy with his decision to sign with HDNET, and says they are treating him great. Says he's going to fight Fedor around June or July and they are pushing for it to happen in a cage. Said his strategy against Fedor will be to trade a little bit and wrestle him down and keep him there. Said he was absolutely shocked at the outcome of Silva v. Hendo, he thought Silva was going to win, but not by a submission. Said he's very interested in fighting Big Nog, but no way in hell in the UFC. Is coming out with 3 movies soon: Big Stan, Redbelt and Scorpion King 2. I'll think of more important things he said, I'm brain dead atm. Kim: Her first fight last Sat was a Muay Thai "smoker" fight, nothing serious Her real fight is in April or so, with an org. under Chael Sonnen Says Gina almost never is in the gym training even when she has a fight coming up Hasn't sparred Wanderlei. Said most of Hughes' book was exaggerated and many of those who were there in the events in his book claimed things were blown way out of proportion. Says Chuck's book was barely, BARELY written by Chuck at all. Says Xtreme Couture clothing is doing great and so are the gyms. They are opening 3 more. Fractured her wrist somehow. Thinks Randy will demolish Big Nog and have a solid chance against Fedor. Randy now has a ****l plate in his forearm similar to Tim Sylvia from the Gonzaga kick. Said the Gonzaga head kick to him (the one that looked like it nearly killed him) was actually just a slap because Randy was moving his head away. (According to her and Randy) - it wasn't nearly as bad as it looked on TV. Says Randy follows a diet, not too strict and his fore arm is healed and he's been back in the gym. Really dislikes Dana White. Not impressed by Big Nog's performances in the UFC at all. Says Randy doesn't read Sherdog @ all, let alone know how to work a computer. Says: "He only makes the news, doesn't care to read about it." Says she absolutely loves Anderson Silva's fluidity and fighting style, and prefers stand-up herself. Liked my necklace a lot :] Says her and Randy live a calm life in Vegas, far from the strip, close to their gym. Randy is coming out with his book and is waiting for everyone to release theirs. Has been working on his for nearly 2 years now and put a lot of time and effort in it. She says it will be a lot different from Hughes' and Liddell's books. Likes to train for herself rather than money, fame, etc. EDIT: Another thing she said which was very interesting, is they are trying to get Wanderlei away from the "bodybuilder - esque" workouts and more focused on circuits, etc. ***Also, the funniest thing she said was when I asked her opinion on Kimbo, she said at first she was a bit skeptical, but he came in one day to their gym in Vega and showed he had a very tough heart and trained hard. Also, him and Forrest sparred and he was KO'd by Forrest and he never came back again! That's everything I can really think of now. I'm sure I'll think of more when my brain comes back to its senses... Will post pics later I guess, so tired. All in all, event was incredible, Randy and Kim were so willing to talk to me and my bud because we had such knowledge of MMA and what was going on. Kim actually didn't like the whole people flooding Randy and all the media and came over to me and my friend to talk to us. Extremely sociable and awesome to talk to. Same with Randy.
