Bas Rutten Talks IFL, Grand Theft Auto 4 & More
(mmaweekly.com)
Three events into a new year and the International Fight League has put in some of the most exciting match-ups in the organization’s brief history. Key to the in-ring success has come at the hands of the matchmaking. Lead by Kurt Otto, in conjunction with Bas “El Guapo” Rutten, the IFL’s change of format to individual fights with champions in six weight classes has proven to be a shot in the arm to the company’s live events. In particular, Rutten has grown into his role as Vice President of Fighter Operations, continuing his transition from fighter to MMA business professional, enjoying every minute of it. Recently Bas took time from his always hectic schedule to speak to MMAWeekly about the current status of the IFL, his foray into the world of video games and his always present endeavors into expanding the Bas Rutten name and brand.

Tito Ortiz comments on his status with the UFC
(mmaweekly.com)
n speaking about his current situation of unrest with the most prominent mixed martial arts organization in the world, Ortiz stated, “It just really comes down to… I see the whole situation with the company, you know, I put my heart and soul on the line… and if I speak out amongst what the contracts are and what the fighters get paid and everything… I’m called a stupid person. “But back in the day when Dana White was my manager, he was fighting against SEG (the former owners of the UFC) to get me the pay-per-view buys and to get me the money that I felt I was rightfully owed for stepping into the Octagon and fighting.” The cruxt of Ortiz’s position, at least publicly, is that he feels that he hasn’t been treated respectfully or compensated fairly by the organization that he has attached himself to for the past 11 years. “I’ve been disrespected time and time again and it started last year with the Bad Blood thing,” he commented. “They wanted to take advantage of me and I stood up because I’m a businessman. “I know what I’m worth.”

The Man Behind The Curtain
(bloodyelbow.com)
The online MMA community has been so busy celebrating Wanderlei Silva's return to form that they missed a very important fact: ''I know people think there was a lot of pressure on me, but I was OK,” said Silva (32-8-1). “I had Randy (Couture) in my corner and I looked at him and he was so calm, and that relaxed me.'' Wow. I didn't even notice randy in Wandy's corner!

(15rounds.com)
Karo Parisyan is ready to return to the octagon after his upset loss to Thiago Alves. In fact, Parisyan already knows the date of the fight, but not the opponent. "I will be fighting August 9 in Minnesota," Parisyan said, "There are a couple of names being thrown around, but there’s no opponent yet." Parisyan isn’t the only member of his family stepping back into the cage this summer. Ultimate Fighter season five runner-up Manny Gamburyan also has a match-up set. “I am back in the Octagon in August against Rob Emerson,” said Gamburyan.

The Light Heavyweight Picture
(bloodyelbow.com)
The Light Heavyweight division emerged from UFC 84 with more clarity than before, but still very muddled. Simply put, there is nobody right now who deserves an immediate title shot against the winner of Rampage and Forrest. The top half of the contenders includes Wand, Thiago, Machida, Shogun, Liddell, and Rashad Evans. Both Chuck and Shogun are expected to return in September, which is right around the time all the guys who just fought should begin fighting again. There's also the possibility of Rich Franklin moving to 205, which is very likely in my view considering the place he is in right now at 185.

Tito Ortiz offered UFC contract prior to UFC 84
(fiveouncesofpain.com)
FiveOuncesOfPain.com was informed by Rear Naked Radio, a weekly MMA show heard every Saturday from 7-9 p.m. CT on Live 105.3 FM in Dallas, that former UFC light heavyweight champion Tito Ortiz was offered a contract by the UFC in the days leading up to last night’s fight against Lyoto Machida. While listening to the initial portion of an audio clip forwarded by Rear Naked Radio, Ortiz begins to talk about possible options outside of the UFC. “Either I go to Affliction; either I got to possibly something with De La Hoya; or start something on my own; HDNet; I mean there are so many opportunities for me,” said Ortiz. “Lorenzo (Ferttita) came up to me, actually, a day before the weigh-in and he’s like ‘UFC is the place you need to stay. You need to be here. We need you here.” And he was giving me the old fluff deal…”

Wanderlei Silva now linked to fight Rashad Evans, then title shot.
(dreamfighters.com)
rumored that Wanderlei Silva's next fight could be with Rashad Evans, and then a title shot with the winner of Forrest/Rampage. I would rather see SIlva get a title shot right away, or fight Thiago

Silva, Palhares, Reljic and Gouveia secure $75K UFC 84 bonuses
(mmajunkie.com)
Wanderlei Silva, Rousimar Palhares, Goran Reljic and Wilson Gouveia all secured $75,000 "fight night" bonuses stemming from Saturday's UFC 84 event, MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) has confirmed. The 11-fight event took place at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. The bonus winners were revealed in a post-fight press conference. Silva earned the Knockout of the Night bonus, Palhares earned the Submission of the Night bonus, and Reljic and Gouveia each picked up Fight of the Night honors. Silva rebounded from a three-fight losing streak in spectacular fashion, battering opponent Keithe Jardine with a series of blows that prompted a TKO stoppage just 36 seconds in the first round. UFC newcomer Palhares dominated his fight with Ivan Salaverry and went to work early for the submission. He secured the rear-naked choke and transitioned into an arm-bar to force the stoppage at 2:36 of the first round. Reljic and Gouveia split Fight of the Night honors for their televised performance. Reljic posted his eighth straight victory -- and snapped Gouveia's four-fight win streak in the UFC -- with a TKO at 3:15 of the second round.

Mac Danzig vs. Clay Guida on tap for UFC 87
(mmajunkie.com)
"The Ultimate Fighter 6" winner Mac Danzig (18-4-1 MMA, 2-0 UFC) will look to continue his ascent in the UFC's lightweight division when he meets Clay Guida (23-9 MMA, 3-3 UFC) at UFC 87. A source close to Guida told MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) that the fighters recently agreed to the August bout. UFC 87, which now features a main event between UFC welterweight champion Georges St. Pierre and top contender Jon Fitch, takes place Aug. 9 at the Target Center in Minneapolis. Danzig, a former King of the Cage champ who dominated the sixth season of "TUF," defeated Tommy Speer at the show's live finale. He then dropped from welterweight to lightweight at UFC 83 and defeated Canadian Mark Bocek via third-round submission. It was his 10th submission victory -- and 14th stoppage -- in 18 career victories. As for the perpetually tested Guida, he gets another tough fight in the UFC. Although 3-3 in the organizatiom, the losses have come to notables Din Thomas, Tyson Griffin and Roger Huerta. He most recently defeated Samy Schiavo at UFC Fight Night 13 with a first-round TKO. Guida, a former Strikeforce champ, will look to put together his first back-to-back wins in the UFC.

HDNet to air three Adrenaline MMA events
(mmajunkie.com)
Monte Cox's Adrenaline MMA will launch with a TV deal. The all-high-definition cable station HDnet, which has partnered with many of MMA's top fight organizations, has struck a deal with upstart Adrenaline MMA and will air the promotion's first three shows. The announcement was made during Friday's edition of "Inside MMA." Arendaline MMA, formerly the restructured M-1 Global organization, recently severed ties with what was supposed to be its top fighter: former PRIDE heavyweight champion Fedor Emelianenko. Instead, Cox said the organization will now use a mix of up-and-coming talent and proven veterans signed to non-exclusive deals.

KENNY FLORIAN UFC 84 FIGHT BREAKDOWN
(mmaweekly.com)
Thiago Silva vs. Antonio Mendes: I know Thiago Silva is a tough, tough fighter. He's obviously proved he has some ground skills. I don't know too much about Mendes. We'll see what happens. It's always interesting seeing how the newcomers come in and do. When you're in the UFC, there are no easy fights. There really aren't. You’ve seen it before and I'm sure you'll see it many times over, that new guy coming in can be the big time spoiler. Wilson Gouveia vs. Goran Reljik From what I hear from Gouveia, he's a monster in the gym and it looks like he should be able to take this one for sure. He's got a lot of potential and I think he can make waves in that division. He's one of those guys who needs to live up to the expectations that people have for him. Keith Jardine vs. Wanderlei Silva I think the key for Jardine is being able to keep him on the outside. You don't want to trade on the inside with Wanderlei Silva. I think that's where Silva has most of his power. That's where Jardine got caught against Houston Alexander. I think he needs to keep that distance and utilize those leg kicks. At the same time, from what I hear, Wanderlei Silva is working with a very good Thai coach. It looks like he's picking up his Thai training and it has the makings of an absolute war. This is a huge fight for both of these guys. Usually when he has been coming forward, in his most recent fights, Wanderlei has been using punches. With that said, Jardine needs to take him out with leg kicks. Now, if this is the old Wanderlei that comes in with punches, Thai clinch, flying knees, it could definitely cause a lot of problems for Jardine. I wouldn't be surprised if Jardine does a takedown. I'd be surprised if Wanderlei Silva initiated one. But I wouldn't be surprised if Jardine utilized that reach at the long range level and then coming in and shooting in at the end of those rounds, stealing those rounds to keep Wanderlei off-balanced like Chuck Liddell did.
