Yves Edwards Ready for Title Shot, Permanent Move to ATT
After a stunning flying knee knockout of Edson Berto (13-5-1) at this past weekend’s EliteXC event, lightweight veteran Yves Edwards (33-13-1) is looking for one thing in his next fight: a shot at gold.
“I want to be the champion,” Edwards said. “I want to have gold… I can’t think of any other guys in (EliteXC), I guess, in my spot right now. I definitely want a shot at (the title). I think I deserve it.“
Edwards has earned title-shot consideration with three straight victories in the last three months. Edwards credits his recent success to his decision to begin training at American Top Team — a decision he made after dropping five of six fights in the previous two years.
Diaz To Fight Corbbrey At April EXC Event
Muhsin Corbbrey, a ShoXC veteran with a 6-2 record, has reportedly signed a deal to fight former UFC veteran Nick Diaz at the EliteXC event on April 26. This would be Diaz' first fight since having eye surgery following his loss to KJ Noons.
Couture To HDNet...But When?
According to paperwork filed by HDNet owner Mark Cuban in legal proceedings against UFC owner Zuffa, it has been revealed that HDNet has signed Randy Couture to a contract effective upon the expiration of his Zuffa promotional contract. The HDNet plan is, once the contract takes effect, to promote the long-hoped-for Couture-Fedor Emelianenko superfight.
Noons refuses rematch with Diaz
KJ Noons has refused a rematch with Nick Diaz. Noons won the EliteXC title after defeating Diaz by doctor's stoppage due to a cut. Diaz subsequently went in for plastic surgery after a specialist determined that the sharpness of the bones above his eyes would lead to more cuts and make it impossible for him to pursue a successful MMA career. The surgery was a complete success.
EliteXC suggested a rematch just as the UFC had when Vitor Belfort defeated Randy Couture for their title due to a cut, however KJ and his camp have now responded that they do not want anything to do with a rematch. Diaz will still be fighting at the event against another EliteXC fighter, most likely Muhsin Corbbrey (6-2).
What Killed Ryan Gracie
The coroner’s report from GracieMag.com:
A little over two months since the death of Ryan Gracie, on December 15, the first toxicology report on the black belt’s death was released yesterday by the program Fantastico, on Brazilian television. According to the program, the document stated that Ryan’s death was not of natural causes. Listed in the report, therapeutic doses of the medicines midasolan, alprazolan, prometazina, clozapina, haloperidol and the fighter had already used intoxicating substances. Based on analysis of the report, the authorities will determine what caused Ryan Gracie’s death. Cardiorespiratory failure seems to be the most probable cause.
Wanderlei Silva Writes About Possible Move to Middleweight (actual possibility)
While Wanderlei Silva (31-8-1 MMA, 1-3 UFC) confirms that he’s met with UFC officials about a potential fight with UFC light heavyweight Keith Jardine (13-3-1 MMA, 5-2 UFC), the former PRIDE champion is also considering a move to middleweight.
In addition to being one of the UFC’s smaller light heavyweights, Silva is considering a move to middleweight because he wants a rematch with Dan Henderson (22-6 MMA, 2-1 UFC) — especially if Henderson defeats UFC middleweight champ Anderson Silva (20-4 MMA, 5-0 UFC) at next month’s UFC 82 event.
“There will be a fight of Anderson Silva against Dan Henderson that will be a great fight, and if Dan Henderson wins it, I don’t think twice about lowering my weight to fight him,” Silva wrote (and translated from Portuguese to English).
“Everybody is talking about Jardine, but nothing has been made official,” Silva wrote. “I think it would be a good opponent because his style matches with mine, and certainly, no one would be a better choice to be my next opponent.“
Joe Riggs at Strikeforce in Tacoma Wa this Weekend
Joe Riggs is the newest and I would say one of the the most valid fighters on the card. Link for all fights this weekend http://www.strikeforceusa.net/matchups.asp
tickets $35, 75, 150, 300. I am thinking $35 and make my way down out of the nosebleeds, Tacoma Dome seems like a crappy venue for MMA, I like the smaller, steeper arenas like Seattle Key Arena or Everett Event center

Being Jon Malko-Fitch
A question for the masses: If you could peek into the mind of someone you have observed accomplish feats in the Octagon with ease, would you?
The Downfall Of BTT & Chute Boxe
Japan & Brazil first became intertwined in martial arts in 1917, when Mitsuyo Maeda started teaching Kodokan judo to Carlos & Helio Gracie. As the folding of PRIDE has revealed, it unknowingly began what has become the well-publicized falling apart of two of the greatest MMA fight camps in history, Brazillian Top Team (BTT) and Chute Boxe.
Has Lindland found a home?
According to Denis Kang in an article by The Fight Network, the word making the rounds is that former UFC middleweight Matt Lindland is on the verge of signing with Japanese-based promotion DREAM, a collaboration between FEG and former staff members of PRIDE.
All I have to say is that would be one sick ass tourney!
