Forrest Griffin Embraces Challenge of Solving Anderson Silva's Riddle
PHILADELPHIA -- From the beginning, he's been the underdog. You want to talk about taking the hard road? In his first professional fight, Forrest Griffin didn't face a fellow rookie. He didn't even compete against a hot prospect. The first time he stepped into a cage, Griffin fought Dan "the Beast" Severn, an ex-UFC tournament champion in his 58th career fight.
UFC president Dana White dishes insults, takes aim at rival "Strike-farce"
PHILADELPHIA - It appears the friendly rivalry between the Ultimate Fighting Championship and Strikeforce is no more.
Although Dana White previously had been complimentary of Strikeforce and its co-founder and president, Scott Coker, the UFC president today referred to the organization as "Strike-farce" and hinted that counter-programming and public criticism – often-used weapons with former rivals such as EliteXC and Affliction – could be on the way.
Bring Your "A" Games, Fighters, Or Else...You're In Philly
No, that wasn't Dana White's pre-UFC 101 pep talk to the fighters. That's a quote from Pennsylvania State Athletic Commission Executive Director Greg Sirb on what he's telling the fighters ahead of Saturday's event. He says remember this isn't Vegas or New Jersey-bring your "B" game, and Philly fans will be Philly fans...meaning the fighters are going to hear it.
Video of the Day: BJ Penn backtracking, appologetic for GSP-steroids comments
BJ Penn’s recent public comments about Georges St-Pierre using steroids have probably led to Dana White giving him a verbal lashing for such an idiotic comment. It’s safe to say that the UFC probably doesn’t want the negative publicity of that the MLB or WWE gets for steroids, but this news is already finding itself in front of the mainstream on news such as Yahoo!. Have a look at these two videos posted by BJ Penn *after* the story caught fire.
Anderson Silva: ‘[Robert Drysdale] is an idiot!’
Black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jiitsu and BJJ coach to former UFC light-heavyweight champion Forrest Griffin, Robert Drysdale has recently come under fire by UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva for statements the decorated submission specialist made during the recent airing of the UFC 101 Countdown on Spike TV.
M-1 Global's Jerry Millen: Fedor Emelianenko is not dodging Brock Lesnar
Business negotiations are always a complex matter.
Business negotiations between the UFC and M-1 Global have at times bordered on bizarre.
But while the two companies recently failed once again to come together and bring Fedor Emelianenko, the world's top heavyweight, to the UFC, the world's top MMA promotion, M-1 Global exec Jerry Millen wants to make one thing perfectly clear: Emelianenko is not dodging UFC champ Brock Lesnar.
Andrei Arlovski May Have Recently Tried To Kill Himself
Seriously. According to a fighters.com article posted yesterday, the former UFC Heavyweight Champion confessed to playing Russian Roulette recently, and it wasn't the first time. Apparently he has been having trouble dealing with his last 2 fights, losses to Fedor Emelianenko and Brett Rogers, and returned to his native Belarus to get help.
BJ Penn Is Pretty Sure That Georges St. Pierre Uses Steroids
His greasing crusade never amounted to much, but UFC lightweight champ BJ Penn won't rest until arch-rival Georges St. Pierre is busted for something. In a new interview with Yahoo! Sports, the Prodigy launched yet another explosive accusation:
"It’s just my opinion that he uses steroids. That’s it...I can’t hand you any proof, but that’s my opinion...In my opinion, he doesn’t play by the rules when it comes to steroids and growth hormones and that stuff. Look at him. He’s the worst. He looks like that every day. That’s cheating. There is a reason why there are rules against using steroids. The rest of us, we get fat, then we train and get skinny and the cycle goes over and over again. He looks the same way all the time. Come on.”
Allow us to float an alternate theory: GSP is bigger and stronger than BJ genetically, and works out all year long, and Penn is just saying these things to bait St. Pierre into a third fight that nobody wants to see except Penn himself. I mean, I can't hand you any proof on this, but it's my opinion.
BOWLES: 'Miguel Torres has never faced anyone like me’
How a fighter as talented and explosive as WEC bantamweight Brian Bowles has gotten used to being the underdog during his career in the WEC is beyond me, but as this undefeated finishing machine told FiveOuncesOfPain.com in the days leading up to the biggest fight of his 29 years on this earth, it’s a role he relishes.
The Correct Way to Use Fedor Emelianenko in Strikeforce
I've slowly come to terms with the fact that I won't be watching Fedor fight in the UFC any time soon. So now what is bothering me most is the idea that Strikeforce wants to build up to a Fedor/Overeem pay-per-view fight. While I openly admit that Overeem is probably the toughest fight for Fedor on the Strikeforce roster I just think there is a better way to build to a PPV event that gets Fedor and his opponent some drawing power and hopefully makes for a must see event.
The fight they should be building to is Fedor vs. Brett Rogers. Allow me to play fantasy matchmaker for a few minutes here:
BJ Penn's Scorched Earth Tactics
BJ Penn may claim to be ready for his fight this weekend, but a new Kevin Iole piece suggests Georges St. Pierre is still the main thing on his mind:
Penn said he believes St. Pierre uses steroids, though he concedes he has no proof. St. Pierre is arguably the sport’s most popular fighter and Penn knows that making such allegations isn’t going to win him any friends.
Finally Healthy, Amir Sadollah Looks to Re-Start Career at UFC 101
PHILADELPHIA – It's been over a year since Amir Sadollah beat CB Dollaway to capture The Ultimate Fighter's season seven championship and earn a UFC contract. But since then the world's most popular 1-0 fighter has been snakebit, suffering back-to-back setbacks during two separate training camps that forced him to pull out of scheduled bouts.
