KENNY FLORIAN UFC 84 FIGHT BREAKDOWN
Thiago Silva vs. Antonio Mendes:
I know Thiago Silva is a tough, tough fighter. He's obviously proved he has some ground skills. I don't know too much about Mendes. We'll see what happens. It's always interesting seeing how the newcomers come in and do.
When you're in the UFC, there are no easy fights. There really aren't. You’ve seen it before and I'm sure you'll see it many times over, that new guy coming in can be the big time spoiler.
Wilson Gouveia vs. Goran Reljik
From what I hear from Gouveia, he's a monster in the gym and it looks like he should be able to take this one for sure. He's got a lot of potential and I think he can make waves in that division. He's one of those guys who needs to live up to the expectations that people have for him.
Keith Jardine vs. Wanderlei Silva
I think the key for Jardine is being able to keep him on the outside. You don't want to trade on the inside with Wanderlei Silva. I think that's where Silva has most of his power. That's where Jardine got caught against Houston Alexander. I think he needs to keep that distance and utilize those leg kicks. At the same time, from what I hear, Wanderlei Silva is working with a very good Thai coach. It looks like he's picking up his Thai training and it has the makings of an absolute war. This is a huge fight for both of these guys.
Usually when he has been coming forward, in his most recent fights, Wanderlei has been using punches. With that said, Jardine needs to take him out with leg kicks. Now, if this is the old Wanderlei that comes in with punches, Thai clinch, flying knees, it could definitely cause a lot of problems for Jardine. I wouldn't be surprised if Jardine does a takedown. I'd be surprised if Wanderlei Silva initiated one. But I wouldn't be surprised if Jardine utilized that reach at the long range level and then coming in and shooting in at the end of those rounds, stealing those rounds to keep Wanderlei off-balanced like Chuck Liddell did.

Gary Shaw Responds To Dana White
EliteXC held a conference call today to hype their upcoming CBS show 'CBS EliteXC Saturday Night Fights' which debuts May 31 at 9 p.m. ET.
EliteXC president Gary Shaw responded in harsh fashion to Dana White's assertions that that the UFC's lightweight champion, BJ Penn, could defeat EliteXC heavyweight Kimbo Slice.
"Dana White is a jerkoff," Shaw said via conference call. "That’s what Dana White is, a ******* idiot, and you can quote me on that. If he cared about mixed martial arts and the sport instead of caring about his big ass swimming pool and his own personal gains, he’d understand that statements like that make someone into a jerk. First of all, I love BJ Penn and he is a friend of mine. Kimbo Slice, one shot, would knock BJ Penn out, a 155 pounder. But they are never going to fight, it is an idiotic statement from a complete idiot… Dana White’s an idiot. And if he wasn’t an idiot, May 31 would have been the UFC instead of EliteXC. I rest my case."
Cale Yarbrough TUF 7 Blog - Episode 8
I think all the guys from Team Rampage thought that C.B. was going to blow through Nick. Nick and I both fought on the same day even though the show had us fighting on different episodes. As I talked to Nick before his fight he seemed really nervous but he assured me that thats just the way he is before fights. Everybody approaches fighting differently. Nick obviously did not enjoy the confrontation part prior to the fight (which sucked because we were living in the same house). Seeing him in the locker room as we were getting examined prior to the fight, I could really tell that his demeanor was changing. I could tell he was ready to fight.
Tim Sylvia talks about the fight with Fedor, the UFC and Kimbo
Tim Sylvia, the six foot eight former UFC heavyweight champion, will be taking on the great Fedor Emelianenko in July at Affliction Banned. I spoke to Tim at the Affliction Banned press conference in NYC today.
Hey Tim. Your split with the UFC, was it about money?
No, I'm not gonna say that. It's just we were both at crossroads in our career. I was at a crossroad in my career and they just didn't know what they wanted to do. I had no interest in fighting a prelim fight in my next fight. And the thing is if I won I would be back in title contention again. And how many people really want to see Tim Sylvia fighting for a heavyweight title in the UFC again. You know, I've done it like eight times. So they just had a different route they wanted to do with the UFC right now and I've got some different things that I'm wanting to do. So I'll do my thing for a couple of years and hopefully I'll have a home back in the UFC someday.
Brian Stann on Howard Stern show
Brian Stann was on Howard Stern today. this is a summary from one of the biggest Stern fan sites out there.
Howard said that they had one of the fighters, Brian Stann, from the World Extreme Cage Fighting in to promote some upcoming fights. Howard spent a minute talking to that guy about his time served in Iraq as a Marine and things like that. Howard asked him about the mixed martial arts stuff that he does. He asked Brian what he thinks of the war over there. Brian said that he thinks that they should finish the war now that they're already over there.
Howard asked Brian if he thinks they should have gone over there to begin with. Brian gave his thoughts on all of that. Gary said that Danielle hadn't taken her eyes off of him the whole time. Brian spent a few minutes talking to Brian about the war, the Marines and the cage fighting stuff.
Brian claimed that he fought 15 gang members at the same time once. Howard that a bunch of the women in the room probably just orgasmed hearing that. Howard told Brian that he's a ''real man'' unlike Brian in the studio.
Howard asked Brian about the kind of guns he was using over there in Iraq. He also figured that he wasn't afraid of black people or anyone like that. He asked Brian about his next fight which is coming up in August on the Versus network.
Brian's wife is a former cheerleader. Brian said that he had to be persistent with his wife to pick her up. She said no to him at first when he tried to ask her out.
Howard said that he felt sorry for Brian if he didn't get to kill anyone over in Iraq. Brian gestured that he had killed some people so Howard was wrong about that.
Artie talked about how he feels kind of like a pussy for going over to Iraq to just do the comedy show over there. Brian told Artie that he should be fine over there when he goes. Howard asked Brian where you jerk off when you're over there. Brian said that you have to find a port-a-John or something to do it in. Brian said that when he was out there he was living in abandoned houses and stuff and it was pretty dirty.
Howard read some notes about Brian and how they were ambushed when they were going over a bridge. Brian told a story about a suicide bomber attacking his group and how he thought that he had lost all of the guys. they ended up having some wounded but no one died so they really lucked out with that.
Howard had Brian present the check to the winner of the contest. Brian told Tiffany that he hopes that she can put the money to good use and presented the 5 grand to her. Tiffany said she's going to use that money for a driving school.

Dana White Issues Warning To Wanderlei Silva
Dana warns Wandy that he better win or he might be cut. In related news, Gary Shaw seen drooling all over himself while tieing Wandy's shoelaces together before the fight.
Was really pulling for Jardine in this one, but this puts a new spin on things...I'd hate to see Wandy get the ax (pardon the pun). Not that he'd be looking for work very long, but he's always been one of my favorites to watch.

Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou mentally ready for Kazuhiro Nakamura UFC 84 fight
“The African Assassin” is out for redemption after “choking” (figuratively and literally) in his Octagon debut against Lyoto Machida at UFC 79: “Nemesis” back in December 2007. Prior to the loss the Camaroonian was on fire, bursting on to the scene overseas in Japan with two sensational knockouts of top 205-pound fighters, Antonio Rogerio Nogueira and Ricardo Arona. He takes on Kazuhiro Nakamura on the under card this weekend at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, at UFC 84: “Ill Will.”
