Sorting Out the UFC Lightweights
As Kenny Florian showered Joe Lauzon with punches from the mount at UFC Fight Night, the final pieces of a very muddled lightweight picture were undoubtedly being shuffled for the umpteenth time in the mind of UFC matchmaker Joe Silva.
With Sean Sherk set to challenge champion B.J. Penn for his former title May 24, Silva will have some time to sort things out after watching four of his most promising 155-pounders secure victories last Wednesday in Colorado.
"The lightweight class is stacked," said Florian, highlighting Silva's propitious dilemma. "Look at all the guys who won [Wednesday] night and some of the guys who lost. They are all tough."

Aleksander Emelianenko: UFC ‘won’t take me’
“I would gladly participate in such a tournament. UFC (American mixed martial arts), for example, won’t take me, because if they let me in there, I would beat everybody and take the belt to Russia. They don’t want that. They want their own American champions. We already beat everyone in Japan, even though no one bet on us.”.
Alexander Emelianenko (13-3) — the younger brother of Pride FC Heavyweight Champion Fedor Emelianenko — states that the UFC will not enlist his services because he can defeat any fighter in the division and he would bring the title back to Russia. He also confirms in the interview that he and Fedor would never fight one another.

Fedor set to fight Tim Silvia!!!
Top ranked heavyweight Fedor Emelianenko will fight Tim Sylvia on July 19.
The Russian mixed martial arts champion confirmed the bout to Sherdog. com on Tuesday.
"[Sylvia] is a good fighter, a strong fighter, the former UFC heavyweight champion, which is important," Emelianenko said via telephone from Stary Oskol, Russia. "I am looking forward to fighting him and training hard for this fight.
While Emelianenko was short on details, Sherdog. com has learned through sources close to the negotiations that Fedor-Sylvia would headline a card tentatively scheduled for the American Airlines Arena in Dallas, the home base of HDNet Fights.
HDNet Fights CEO Andrew Simon declined to comment on the report, however sources indicate the bout will air on the Mark Cuban-owned network and is rumored to be promoted by Affliction, a clothing brand closely tied to MMA.
Affliction had been connected with Oscar De La Hoya's Golden Boy Promotions, however a June 28 Las Vegas date has since been discarded.
Emelianenko, a 31-year-old sambo practitioner, has faced criticism from media and fans alike after a string of fights against less than stellar competition. Sylvia would represent the Russian's first ranked opponent since his unanimous decision over Mirko "Cro Cop" Filipovic nearly three years ago.
Widely regarded as the top heavyweight fighter in the world, Emelianenko (27-1-0, 1 NC) was recently freed from a letter of intent binding him to the now-defunct M-1 Global promotion.
Sylvia, 32, is coming off a submission loss to Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira in February at UFC 81. After a spirited performance that saw him batter his foe at will with strikes, Sylvia (24-4-0) eventually fell victim to a classic Nogueira come-from-behind performance and succumbed to a guillotine choke early in the third round.

Fedor Emelianenko Vs. Tim Sylvia Being Discussed For June
A proposed contest between Fedor Emelianenko and Tim Sylvia is currently in discussions according to a source close to the negotiations. Though our source informed us that this fight is a "solid possibility" it should be noted that it is far from a done deal and would require further negotiations if a basic agreement is reached. There are also other names in the works for both fighters should this fight fail to materialize.
The fight, however, if officially agreed to, will be held in Chicago this June under the newly formed Adrenaline MMA banner. The card is also set to feature Jeff Monson taking on Mike Russow in a heavyweight showdown.
