Paul Taylor Vs Peter Sobotta @ UFC 99
Top British welterweight Paul Taylor (9-4-1) will be fighting UFC newcomer Peter Sobotta at UFC 99, Fighters Only has learned.
Sobotta (8-1) is a submission grappler who fights out of German team Unlimited Combat System. Despite his grappling credentials, he has actually won half of his fights by TKO.
He will be coming into the UFC off the back of a win over Kerim Abzailow at Polish show KSW (which has previously been described as “a mini-PRIDE” thanks to its high production values).
Struve Vs Stojnic @ UFC 99
Stefan Struve (16-3) will be fighting Golden Glory heavyweight Denis ’The Menace’ Stojnic in a ‘loser gets cut’ match.
Fighters Only learned of the match at the weekend but could not report it until bout agreements were signed and retuned.
Struve made his UFC debut the weekend before last, being stopped by Junior Dos Santos in 54 seconds at UFC 95.
M-1 Global Issues Statement On Sidelnikov Drug Test Failure
According to a statement put out today by M-1 Global regarding Kirill Sidelnikov's failed drug test at Affliction 2, "Kirill indicated that during that time away he began to experience complications from a broken nose that he had recently sustained. Not wanting to miss any training time leading up to “Day of Reckoning,” Kirill followed the advice of a coach not affiliated with M-1 who gave him a nose spray commonly used in Russia to help treat some of his symptoms. It is M-1’s belief that the nose spray is what contained the Stanozol."

Ian Freeman Spared Jail for Tax Evasion
A former ultimate fighting champion facing sentencing for tax fraud broke down in tears today when he heard a friend describe in court his charity work helping his terminally ill son.
Ian Freeman - dubbed The Machine by ultimate fighting fans - sobbed as David Scott told how he had helped his son Lewis, who is dying from cancer.
Freeman was before Newcastle Crown Court to be sentenced for a three-year tax fraud.
The curious case of Keith Jardine
Saturday night’s UFC 96 from Columbus, Ohio, is headlined by the match that in some ways makes no sense.
Keith Jardine could come out of the show as having beaten three of the most popular champions in the history of the light heavyweight division, and not only not get a title shot but also not even want one.
Marcos Galvao cleared by MRI following brutal KO loss at WEC 39
A knockout loss that appeared to leave WEC 39 competitor Marcos Galvao convulsing on the canvas floor apparently didn't leave the fighter with any substantial injuries.
Galvao suffered a swift 18-second knockout defeat to fellow bantamweight Damacio Page on the preliminary card of the March 1 event.
An exam and CAT scan after the Sunday event and a subsequent MRI on Monday cleared Galvao of any serious injuries.
Put up or shut your trap: Pete Sell UFC 96 interview
This Saturday at UFC 96, there’s a bout a lot of folks have been talking about … and I’m not referring to the main event between Quinton “Rampage” Jackson and Keith Jardine. I’m talking about the fight between Pete Sell and Matt Brown that recently snuck onto the main card.
In doing so, it pushed fights with Brandon “The Truth” Vera and The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 3 winner Kendall “Da Spyda” Grove onto the undercard. To its credit, the UFC seems to be banking on all the potential for a slugfest that Sell vs. Brown promises to hold.
UFC-bound Yoshihiro Akiyama is ready to face a middleweight Wanderlei Silva
I decided to fight in the UFC which was a “major league” in MMA … I will debut in July or August and my contract is six fights. When offered, I thought Dana White was interested in me because he planed to expand his business in Japan and Korea. Aside from his real intention, I am glad if I can attract more Japanese and Korean to MMA. That would be great if I can fight in Japan and Korea as a UFC fighter … I want to fight a champion someday. I dream about challenging (Yushin) Okami when he becomes a champion. If Wanderlei Silva [does come] down to middleweight, I want to fight him.
Alberto Crane Rolling, Wants Back In The UFC
Lightweight Alberto Crane will be the first to tell you that his initial Ultimate Fighting Championship run was a disappointment on many levels.
After a stellar start to his career, which saw him win his first eight fights en route to the King of the Cage 155-pound title, Crane lost back-to-back fights in the UFC to Roger Huerta and Kurt Pellegrino.
Just as quickly as he had arrived, six months after his UFC debut, he was released from the company.
The Year Of Gonzaga Begins At UFC 96
The heavyweight division in the UFC may crown the next top contender on Saturday night as Brazilian Gabriel Gonzaga tries to take one more step towards his championship dreams as he faces undefeated prospect, Shane Carwin, in Columbus, OH at UFC 96.
For Gonzaga, the opponent has never mattered as much as the challenge, and he knows that Carwin is the real deal and a very tough opponent.
"Carwin is a big guy with great power and wrestling background. Great fighter, undefeated and (he's) been training in a great camp," Gonzaga said about his opponent in an exclusive interview with MMAWeekly.com.
The Miller Brothers Lead By Example
When brothers Dan and Jim Miller signed on with the UFC, many fans were not familiar with the New Jersey tandem, but it didn't take long for just about everybody to take notice of what they were doing right.
Dan Miller is now a perfect 3-0 in the Octagon with his last win coming against former NCAA champion wrestler Jake Rosholt in early February. His brother, Jim Miller, currently sits at 2-0, and is looking for a third win next weekend when he faces Gray Maynard at UFC 96.
Wesley "Cabbage" Correira Fails Drug Test
The UFC and Rumble on the Rock veteran's pre-fight drug test came back positive for marijuana, registering a staggering 700 ng/mL of the drug in his system. As [Assistant Executive Officer of the CSAC Bill] Douglas earlier told MMAInsider, "anything above 50 ng/mL is a truely active user."
Correira's suspension is retroactive to the missed fight and runs until Aug. 12, 2009. He is also fined $1,000.
At Last – Hughes to Face Serra at UFC 98
It’s a grudge match that has boiled for close to two years, and finally, on Saturday, May 23rd, at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, former UFC welterweight champions Matt Hughes and Matt Serra will meet on the undercard of the Brock Lesnar vs Frank Mir heavyweight championship bout that headlines UFC 98.
Dan Miller vs Yushin Okami completes UFC 98
Believe it or not, but UFC 98: “Lesnar vs. Mir 2? just got better.
Former number one middleweight contender Yushin Okami will return to the Octagon to challenge surging 185-pound stand out Dan Miller at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, on May 23.
Okami bested Brazilian jiu-jitsu specialist Dean Lister at UFC 92: “The Ultimate 2008? in Dec. 2008, re-establishing himself as a top contender in the middleweight division. “Thunder” was the front runner to challenge 185-pound stalwart Anderson Silva for his division title before the Lister match; however, he was sidelined with a hand injury that temporarily derailed his championship aspirations.
10 March Tussles Worth Watching
Despite a lack of star power, February was a solid month for mixed martial arts. The Nate Marquardt-Wilson Gouveia and Nick Thompson-Paul Daley fights -- Sherdog.com’s top-ranked bouts for the month -- delivered the goods as far as all-out action between evenly matched opponents was concerned.
The signs for March are similar. Most of the sport’s top pound-for-pound talent will not return until summer, so guys like Quinton “Rampage” Jackson and Aleksander Emelianenko will get their chance to shine. With tough opponents like Keith Jardine and Ibragim Magomedov in their way, fans are guaranteed competitive matchups.
BELCHER VS SAKARA ON TAP FOR UFC 99 IN GERMANY
A middleweight tilt between American Top Team fighter Alessio Sakara and Roufusport fighter Alan Belcher appears set to take place at UFC 99 in Germany.
Sources close to both camps said the fighters have agreed to the June 13 fight. Bout agreements should be signed shortly.
‘Baby Fedor’ Kirill Sidelnikov tests positive for steroids …
“Kirill Sidelnikov, who last competed at Affliction’s Day of Reckoning event on January 24, has been suspended for testing positive for Stanozolol. The suspension period is retroactive to the conclusion of the bout on January 24 and runs through January 18, 2010. He has been fined $2,500. The mere presence of Stanozolol in the system constitutes a violation under the new testing procedures for CSAC.”
Stefan Struve and Paul Taylor added to UFC 99
Just one week after losing to Junior dos Santos at UFC 95, Dutch heavyweight Stefan Struve (16-3) is wasting no time in looking for his first win in the UFC.
According to a report from British MMA Magazine Fighters Only, Struve and British welterweight Paul Taylor (9-4-1) have both been offered fights for UFC 99, however their opponents are currently unknown and bout agreements have yet to be signed.
