Dan Henderson Might Fight at UFC 79
(mmajunkie.com)
Dan Henderson, who most recently lost a unanimous decision to UFC light heavyweight champion Quinton Jackson in September, may return to the octagon Dec. 29 at UFC 79. The news come from Bubba The Love Sponge, who recently spoke to Henderson in Las Vegas. The Sirius Satellite Radio host mentioned the encounter during today’s episode of his show, and the news also appeared on the show’s official website, BTLS.com. (MMAjunkie.com is a content-partner site of BTLS.com.) According to Bubba, Henderson wouldn’t name his possible opponent but did mention that he may be dropping to 185 pounds for the fight. That’s actually news itself. In a post-UFC 77 press conference earlier this month, UFC President Dana White said he wants Henderson to drop to middleweight but that the fighter seemed opposed to the idea. Henderson has one fight remaining on his current contract, which was acquired when the UFC’s owners purchased PRIDE earlier this year (though not all of the fighters’ contracts were transferable). Although Henderson recently stated he was unhappy with the UFC’s initial offer, he said he was optimistic a deal would be reached. A new deal would likely need to be in place before the UFC would officially book Henderson for his next fight. UFC 79 takes place at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas and features a main event between UFC welterweight champion Matt Serra and former champ Matt Hughes.

New Era Files HUGE Lawsuit Against CSAC
(mmanews.com)
Literally...New Era Fighting has filed a lawsuit against the California State Athletic Commission seeking, among other things, $500 million over various claims and issues dating roughly 10 months back. Almost ludicrous, ridiculous, and so on. Not sure what other adjectives I can add.

Less TUF, more UFN please!
(fightlinker.com)
The UFC has two big problems right now, in my opinion. Okay, they’re not really big problems for the UFC, but they’re my two pet peeves: There’s too many times in a year where there’s no new shows for over a month. There’s too many new UFC guys that need developing, and not enough shows to develop them in.

Wanderlei Comments On Return To UFC
(mmaweekly.com)
Now relocated to the U.S., Silva has started training in Florida as well as at Xtreme Couture in Las Vegas to get him ready for his turn to the UFC against Liddell. “I’m training hard, I only fight to win,” Silva stated. “I want to come back to the top and fighting with Chuck now is the best moment for me.” Many have questioned Silva’s stamina in the sport after so many hard fought battles while competing in Pride, but the Brazilian is quick to point out the best is yet to come. “In the next 2 years, I will give you the best of my career,” Silva said. While his focus is now solely based on Chuck Liddell, many fans are quick to notice that Silva has two dominant victories over current UFC light heavyweight champion Quinton “Rampage” Jackson, but the former Pride champion has his priorities well in line. “For me this is the opportunity to come back to the top. First, I’m going to knock out Chuck and after I want the belt.”

Yoshihiro Akiyama completed a long road back to the top with an emphatic KO of top Middleweight Denis Kang at K-1 Olympia HERO's in Korea. The fight was Akiyama's first since his No Contest against Kazushi Sakuraba that left Akiyama disgraced amidst cheating allegations. Weighty Matters
(sherdog.com)
Weight cutting is 10% of determining a fight's outcome, according to fighters. Based on their records, Sherdog came up with a list of fighters who might be best served by losing more weight than they are cutting now, or by even piling on more. Most of these we probably agree with, but a couple are still a little surprising to consider.

No one’s told Frank Trigg he’s fighting Paulo Filho
(fightlinker.com)
As time goes on and more people jump on the MMA news bandwagon, you better beleive there’s gonna be more false and misleading information floating around. In this case, the false news was that Trigg/Filho was a done deal for December:

Despite a published report last week to the contrary, Frank Trigg (15-6) says he has not been offered a bout with World Extreme Cagefighting Middleweight Champion Paulo Filho (15-0) for its Dec. 12 event at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas. The former UFC welterweight contender said he’d been told that the Brazilian Top Team member has been presented with a bout agreement bearing Trigg’s name, though he has not received the complimentary paperwork on his end. Trigg has not been contacted by WEC officials, but said he is open to the bout.

Randy Couture: Dana White Never “Bitch Slapped” Agent
(mmajunkie.com)
The day after UFC heavyweight champion Randy Couture announced his resignation from the organization, UFC President Dana White was the subject of a UFC.com Q&A in which he blamed Couture’s “Hollywood agent” — one whom White said he “bitch slapped” — for the UFC hall-of-famers decision to leave the organization.

“Under the pressure and scrutiny of the decision I’ve recently made, Matt has had the blame unfairly heaped upon him from UFC president Dana White, who claimed, metaphorically at first, to have ‘bitchslapped’ Matt. Later, White even stated to UFC Fight Club members (on Oct. 19) to have actually physically hit Matt, something I assure you never happened. They have have physically never met. You tell me who’s acting ‘Hollywood.’“

UFC vs MMA. Who's winning?
(bleacherreport.com)
Are you a fan of mma (mixed martial arts) or are you a fan of the UFC? I’m a fan of mma first, and UFC second. My level of appreciation for the UFC comes from their ability to showcase “A” level fighters competing against one another. I can watch any kind of mma though. It doesn’t matter to me if it’s in a UFC cage or another organization’s ring, but not everyone views this sport with the same eyes as mine. The UFC has become “the thing” of today, but what were to happen to mma in North America if the UFC became a thing of the past?

Lindland Wants To Fight
(mmaweekly.com)
Lindland was in attendance for UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva's title defense against Rich Frankiln at UFC 77 on Oct. 20 in Cincinnati, Ohio. When questioned about Silva's performance, Lindland said, "I thought he looked phenomenal. I've always thought he was a good fighter, and he's getting better and better." "His striking is, I think, the best in MMA. I don't think anybody else uses their striking skills as good as he does. I think my wrestling is the best in MMA. And I think I'd like to match up with him and see if I can close the distance and put him on the ground and out maneuver him on the ground, or see if he can keep the distance and create that space that he needs to do damage. And he doesn't need much space."

Words Between Couture-White
(mmanews.com)
The following is an excerpt from a long blog entry by Randy Couture on his XtremeCouture website, in reference to Dana White's claims to have "bitch slapped" his agent: In short, Matt Walker has become a close friend and confidante. Under the pressure and scrutiny of the decision I’ve recently made, Matt has had the blame unfairly heaped upon him from UFC president Dana White, who claimed, metaphorically at first, to have “bitchslapped” Matt. Later, White even stated to UFC Fight Club members to have actually physically hit Matt, something I assure you never happened. They have have physically never met. You tell me who’s acting “Hollywood.”

Xtreme Couture b*tchslaps Kevin Iole
(fightlinker.com)
Randy Couture’s blog has been abuzz the past two days with lots of content direct from the source, including:

It would appear you are either peeved that Randy (rather politely) singled you out for publishing numbers that were apparently unsubstantiated, or you are carrying water for Dana White - who has created a huge PR nightmare for himself by a.) letting this happen in the first place, and b.) making matters worse by turning it into a pissing match.

You neither reported the true intent of Randy’s message, nor shed any light on this senseless falling out. You simply itemized the various accusations and counter-accusations and wrapped it in a blanket statement that says something to the effect that: “athletes are all liars - they’re just in it for the money - move along folks - nothing to see here….

But instead of clearing up the discrepancy, you unceremoniously threw the apparently factual numbers into the mix with the old apparently un-factual numbers - offering no account for the gaping difference and no apology for what appears to have been pretty sloppy journalism first time around.
