Randy Couture Opening Training Camp to Calvin Pace, Other NFL Players Suspended for PEDs
Starting Friday, the Jets outside linebacker began serving a four-game suspension, handed down before training camp for violating the NFL's policy on performance-enhancing supplements. Instead of passing the time in New Jersey or at his home in Atlanta, Pace will spend the next two weeks working out with Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) guru Randy Couture.

ross clifton found dead
Super heavyweight Ross "The Grizzly" Clifton, an eight-year veteran of MMA best known for his TKO loss to Ken Shamrock at "Wargods" in February, has passed away from an apparent heart attack. He was 32 years old. Clifton's former trainer, UFC veteran Cal Worsham, said the Rancho Cordova fighter was found dead by his wife Friday morning. Clifton was reportedly watching TV in a recliner chair when the wife went to bed Thursday night. Official details of Clifton's death were not readily available. Clifton ran a small MMA school called "Grizzly's Den" in nearby Cameron Park and last fought in July, losing by TKO to Rick Vardell at Gladiator Challenge: Total Recall.

UFC's Kenny Florian finds mutual admiration at Walter Reed Army Hospital
What's easier – talking to an amputee or fighting B.J. Penn? I'm getting ahead of myself. Let's back this tale up. I sat in Washington DC's Reagan National Airport waiting for Kenny Florian to get off his plane with a sign that said, "FLORINI," nearly giddy at the opportunity to mess with him. In reference to Dr. Phil's boneheaded mispronunciation of his last name, I was hoping he'd flash his toothy grin and say, "Dude, that's not right," or something equally as humorous.

"After dispatching Randy Couture last Saturday at UFC 102, Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira was game to “play” with reigning champ Brock Lesnar if the opportunity became available. 'If they gave me a title shot, it would be awesome,' he told MMAWeekly. But after hearing Frank Mir’s opinions about his performance, Big Nog is eyeing a rematch with the former champion." Looks like the rematch is more likely to happen sooner than later.

Anderson Silva Done For The Year
Amidst word from his manager that Anderson Silva wanted to "take a break from fighting", it's now been confirmed that Silva has a good reason. Elbow surgery means the UFC Middleweight Champion is done fighting in 2009. He's expected to return in early 2010 and face either Dan Henderson or Nate Marquardt for the title.

Though the UFC has yet to make an official announcement, welterweight Mike Swick (14-2 MMA, 9-1 UFC) today acknowledged the reports that he would no longer be facing Martin Kampmann at UFC 103 on Sept. 19 in Dallas. In Swick's place steps British slugger Paul Daley.

"Minotauro" Nogueira: If Frank Mir thinks I was making excuses, then let's do it again
UFC heavyweight Frank Mir (12-4 MMA, 10-4 UFC) doesn't have much good to say about Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira (32-5-1 MMA, 3-1 UFC) these days. Mir has taken exception to the numerous "excuses" – such as a severe staph infection that hospitalized the Brazilian, as well as torn meniscus – laid out by UFC president Dana White, UFC announcer Joe Rogan and "Minotauro" himself as to why the Nogueira that lost to Frank Mir in December 2008 was different than the one that defeated Randy Couture in the main event of this past Saturday's UFC 102 in Portland, Ore.

UFC's dual division hopeful Brandon Vera wants the world to know his name
When then-heavyweight Brandon Vera stormed on to the UFC scene beginning in 2005 with four-straight stoppage victories, the California resident really did appear to be "The Truth." Disappointing back-to-back losses to Fabricio Werdum and Tim Sylvia led to a drop to 205 pounds, and Vera's stated goals of earning titles in two divisions appeared to be forgotten.

Jacare: I am more than ready to step up and smash Shields......
. "I just read Jake Shields interview on mmaweekly.com and I would like to make a statement saying that I am more than ready to step up and smash Shields. I think Jake Shields ground game is overrated and I will be more then glad to end his win streak and take his belt away. So Jake, you talk the talk, but can you walk the walk, if you can, let’s do it, I accept the fight against you right now. So what's it gonna be. And I also would like to send a message to the clown " Jason Miller , you made a huge mistake to follow me into Strikeforce" we have an unfinished business and I was afraid that I might not be able to finish it, since I came to Strikeforce, but thank's to Scott's efforts and Jason's stupidity, he signed, So now we live in the same house, and he is not welcome there" " So Jason do whatever it is that you need to do , be ready and you are next on my list, after I finish Jake" Terrible matchup for jake , but i would like to see it

UFC 107 reshuffle as Penn vs. Sanchez replaces “Rampage” vs. Evans
The inclusion of the lightweight title fight between B.J. Penn and Diego Sanchez at UFC 107 in Memphis, Tennessee on December 12th has been done in order to replace the clash between former light heavyweight champions, Quinton “Rampage” Jackson and Rashad Evans. The move comes just days after “Rampage” signed a deal with 20th Century Fox to film the big screen version of the A-Team, which has already begun filming in Vancouver, Canada. The timing of the shoot would have left the Tennessee native with next to no time to prepare for the fight and therefore it has been scrapped from the card.

Is the Floyd Mayweather vs. Juan Manuel Marquez PPV in Trouble?
I've maintained for some time that I thought the return of the best P4P boxer on the planet would do pretty good numbers even if they have dropped the ball on the promotion and the fight isn't really that competitive on paper. I didn't really think UFC 103 would put too much of a dent in the buys that the fight would be getting either. However, the results of the poll on this article on BadLeftHook have to been seen as troubling.

Josh Neer official for UFC 104, bout with Gleison Tibau remains on main card
The fight card for "UFC 104: Machida vs. Shogun" is again complete, as Josh Neer (25-8-1 MMA, 4-5 UFC) has officially been named as a replacement for an injured Sean Sherk (33-4-1 MMA, 7-4 UFC). The UFC wasted little time in announcing the previously reported switch, and Neer now faces Gleison Tibau (19-6 MMA, 5-4 UFC). And while there was some question as to where the new matchup would fall on the Oct. 24 card at Staples Center in Los Angeles, the UFC has elected to leave the bout on the main card, which will be broadcast live on pay per view.

MMA Quick Quote: When in doubt, fake an injury
“There’s loopholes in everybody’s game, and in his game, the way I see it, he can sometimes get a little sloppy. He is a patient guy, but when he feels that he has to give, he kind of rushes it a little bit. Just on that, I can kinda set him up for a knockout just by faking an injury or something, just jump in and out his offense a little more than not. Hit and move. Hit and move. Fedor, he’s definitely done and proved to the world that he’s capable of doing whatever he needs to to get the job done. That right there –- that’s the type of fighter that I’m looking forward to fighting because it’s all about testing your might and he’s definitely got it to test.”
