Renato "Babalu" Sobral to defend Strikeforce title against Gegard Mousasi on Aug. 15
(mmajunkie.com)
The first two pieces of the scrambled puzzle left by Affliction's recent demise have fallen into place as Strikeforce light heavyweight champion Renato "Babalu" Sobral (35-8) will defend his title against Gegard Mousasi (25-2-1) on Aug. 15. Sobral and Mousasi, who were originally scheduled to meet at the now-canceled "Affliction: Trilogy," will instead step into the cage at the HP Pavilion in San Jose, Calif., on the main card of "Strikeforce: Carano vs. Cyborg," which airs live on Showtime. Mousasi will compete on the card with a new Strikeforce contract, Afromowitz said, and not as a loaned commodity from M-1.

Kimbo Slice, Roy Nelson and Wes Sims: Good Guys and Bad Guys on TUF 10
(bloodyelbow.com)
For the first time since the lightweights of season five, I'm really looking forward to the next season of The Ultimate Fighter. Part of it is the roster of fighters -- I can't help being intrigued by Kimbo Slice, but I'm more interested in the mix of established veterans and up and coming talent they've put together. I must admit the prospect of seeing several former pro and college football players ads to the excitement.

Brock Lesnar Still Loved in Minnesota
(mma.fanhouse.com)
Mike Swick said Brock Lesnar was "probably the most hated man in MMA history." Jesse Ventura said he was "ashamed of his behavior" on "Larry King Live." And Mike Brown wondered if Lesnar's post-UFC 100 antics would attract "hillbilly fans" to MMA.

Tito Ortiz Sees the Writing on the Wall
(fiveouncesofpain.com)
Tito Ortiz, my man. I have been an Ortiz fan all my life and say what you will about the Huntington Beach Bad Boy, he’s no dummy. Ortiz is one of the most intelligent fighters in the world when it comes to business sense and it’s one of the main reasons him and Dana White butt heads so often. The two are actually a lot alike.

Belfort Willing to Fight Anderson Silva
(5thround.com)
With his “Affliction: Trilogy” fight against WAMMA champ Fedor Emelianenko, ahem Jorge Santiago, officially scrapped, former UFC light heavyweight champion Vitor Belfort is looking to make a move back to the Octagon and make a run at middleweight king Anderson Silva. “Anderson is a great friend of mine and a big champion but I’m looking for this [fight to happen],” Belfort told OUL Esporte of Brazil. “I cannot comment much on this right now but yeah, I always want to fight the best fighters. Of course it won’t be a pleasure [being Silva’s friend] but there isn’t another way at all in the sport. Kaka and Ronaldinho (Brazilian soccer players) are friends and have faced each other many times. It is part of my work and I need it to afford milk to the children at home.”

Funny but true. Torres recently commented on training with MMA guru Mark Dellagrotte, who brings a "hugs, not drugs" philosophy to his training camp. Torres said getting a hug like that for the first time was just what he needed, although it was kind of funny.

NSAC To Vote On Rule Changes In August
(mmajunkie.com)
The Nevada State Athletic Commission will be looking to vote on a handful of proposed regulatory changes when it convenes for a Regulation Hearing on Aug. 19. And while a number of potential changes will be up for vote at the meeting, perhaps most interesting to MMA fans is the potential institution of limited instant replay. If the vote passes, it will be implemented immediately according to NSAC head Keith Kizer.

Jay Hieron: ‘I have a lot of bills and no paycheck’
(fiveouncesofpain.com)
A perspective that seems to be absent in the wake of today’s cancellation of ”Affliction: Trilogy” is the effect the news has had on the individuals who were preparing to enter the ring on August 1st (and bring home some well-deserved pay in the process). Months spent preparing for now-defunct bouts have ultimately resulted in tolls taken on fighters’ wallets and bodies.

Gegard Mousasi: ‘It’s all politics and I can do nothing but wait’
(fiveouncesofpain.com)
Disappointed would be an understatement to describe Dutch-Armenian fighting sensation Gegard Mousasi’s feelings following the recent cancellation of “Affliction Trilogy“. After years of making his name overseas as one of the most dangerous men on the planet Mousasi finally had his opportunity to show the American public what he was capable of against the most dangerous foe he had ever faced in Renato “Babalu” Sobral.

‘Flo’ Job: An MMAmania.com UFC 101 interview exclusive with Kenny Florian
(mmamania.com)
It’s been roughly three years since Kenny Florian’s first title shot in which he lost a bloody, five round battle to mixed martial arts veteran Sean Sherk at UFC 64. Needless to say, a lot has changed since that juncture in his career. Six consecutive victories over top lightweight contenders including Roger Huerta, Joe Stevenson, and Joe Lauzon and Florian once again finds himself in the familiar number one contender spot. This time around, however, he’s a little older and a little wiser — and some may argue a completely revamped and weakness-free fighter.
