Promising UFC newcomer Houston Alexander (7-1 MMA, 1-0 UFC) will face UFC veteran Alessio Sakara (11-5 MMA, 2-2 UFC) at UFC 75 in September, according to Alexander’s camp.

Earlier today, UFCjunkie.com (www.ufcjunkie.com) debunked recent rumors that Alexander would instead face light heavyweight winner of The Ultimate Fighter 1 Forrest Griffin. The rumors surfaced from alleged comments Alexander made at a regional MMA show this past weekend.

Instead, Alexander has agreed to fight Sakara, who most recently defeated Victor Valimaki with a swift first-round TKO at UFC 70. Both fighters are expected to sign fight papers next week to make the bout official.

Last month at UFC 71, Alexander — a 6-to-1 underdog — defeated the heavily favored Keith Jardine with a quick and stunning first-round knockout. The Omaha, Neb. DJ and hip-hop school lecturer hasn’t lost a professional fight in more than six years.

He’ll now take on Sakara. Earlier this month, UFCjunkie.com announced that the Italian boxer was expected to appear on the UFC 75 card, which takes place in London.

Before his UFC 70 victory, Sakara had lost two in a row (to Dean Lister and Drew McFedries). In previous UFC fights, he defeated Elvis Sinosic and earned a no-contest (groin kick) with Ron Faircloth. He’ll now go for the first back-to-back UFC victories of his career.

UFC 75 takes place at The O2 arena on Sept. 22.

Nice fight, a guarenteed KO in that fight.

Sakara is gonna knock him out cold, anyone who thinks otherwise based on Houston's performance against Jardine is delusional...

You realize that Sakara is the dangerous striker in this fight right? He was handling McFedries the whole fight till he got caught...

I am looking forward to watching someone getting knockout. My pick is Sakara to knockout Alexander. Jardine was over rated and his stand up is not as good as Sakara. Alexander caught Jardine, but will not be able to do the same with Sakara.

Personally, I think that the Alexander vs. Jardine fight was the biggest underdog upset, even more than the cro cop, serra, and liddell

I totally agree. Sakara has a very strong background in boxing and was an italian champion. His striking is better than many fighters in the UFC in any division right now. I can almost guarantee that both of these guys are going to stand up and bang anyways and I don't see Alexander coming out on top.

kevietre » Posted 6/29/07 1:36:00AM

Houston pulled off an upset against Jardine but who has seen any of his other fights? He stepped up and brought it to Keith for sure but we'll find out if thats the type of fighter he is everytime when we see him next.

(To contradict myself, I think he'll beat Sakara)

Sam_Rothstein » Posted 3/21/07 1:52:00AM

yeah i guess it does depend on which houston alexander shows up

i actually saw him at a local event here in iowa, one of my friends from my high school was on the card and a few other people from my city where in this event headlined by houston alexander (this was over 2 years ago and noone had any idea who he was)

well to make a long story short his opponent was this bum from washington named demian the coroner decorah who sports a 16-22 record, it ended up going to a decision, and at no time in that fight did i see the guy who knocked out keith jardine

the crazy thing was if you told me 2 of the guys on the card would make it to the ufc i wouldnt believe you

1 being houston alexander and the other being a kid from my neighborhood who people called the next josh neer (jeremy stephens)

if houston comes out with the same intensity it might be too much for sakara who doesnt have the best chin as mcfedries showed
