So far, it hasn't been the same kind of controversy that Bellator MMA experienced with Eddie Alvarez's free agency.

What will happen to the promotion's welterweight champion, Ben Askren, remains to be seen. But Bellator CEO Bjorn Rebney believes the elite-level wrestler will continue having success if he stays or if he goes.

At this point, backhanded compliments might be just part of the game...

I'd love to see how Askren does in the UFC

The comment does say that Rebney thinks Askren is one dimensional. It also says that Rebney thinks that Askren is the best MMA wrestler in the world, and that he'd dominate wherever he goes. I don't see that as so "backhanded" as much as I see it as a nice controversial headline slightly taken out of context.

I myself am also a king of back handed compliments.

GSP
Nick Diaz
Condit
Hendricks
Rory

all take him imo. I think he has a tough time breaking top 10.

Like his old college teammate Woodley, he will eventually get bested by someone too well rounded for him. It wouldn't shock me if Askren could beat some pretty big fish in the UFC but it'll eventually come crashing down.

Ben Askren's fight resume isn't that impressive. I know it's not his fault, he fights for the promotion he fights for and fights the guys he gets, but seriously it's tough to name two guys he's beat. The only one I could remember before looking it up was Jay Hieron. Pretty big frickin jump up to say he'd dominate in the UFC. Give him Lombard or Maia to start if he comes over.

A world class wrestler usually has a good career in the UFC welterweight division, so Askren should be okay.

I think he beats Diaz and Hendricks. All the other fighters would probably take a decision but I think Rory stops him.

Depending on the Diaz that showed up I could see him droping that fight. He shouldn't though. Hendricks puts Ben to Bed in under a round IMO.

Anyone who can't keep it on the feet will lose to Ben Askren. There are probably 3-4 guys in the world who could roll with Askren and not end up on bottom at this point. I seriously doubt Diaz could keep it on the feet, and I think that's a huge challenge for Condit as well. Rory and Hendricks have been taken down as well, but have a better chance. GSP could probably keep it on the feet the whole fight.

GSP beats everybody so that's nothing to frown upon

Diaz loses to dominant top control wrestlers (and guys running away with leg kicks). Askren is too well versed in the grappling department to fall for traps in Diaz's guard

Condit has poor TDD so it would be a 30-27 or 50-45 decision for Askren

Hendricks struggled with virtually every wrestler he fought in the UFC. Askren is much better at it than Koscheck and Pierce. Unless he lands that left early, Askren's cardio will win him the fight

Rory might be able to keep it standing enough to win a few rounds, but its a tough call atm
