with that being said if we are agreeing that plants have a defense mechanism of any kind then we have to agree that they are aware of other organisms.

Mmmm I wouldn't say aware. Most animals, organisms, plants, whatever, in their day to day functions are merely beings responding to environmental stimulus. They conduct certain actions under certain conditions, as they are essentially programmed to do through genetic memory.

I always wonder about the same kind of shit though! Lol like what would the life of a jellyfish be like?

when i posted this question i wasnt implying that i think plants can carry out complex thoughts.

i was fully expecting a resounding no lol

however i planned to pose the thorn question to ATLEAST try and agree that they have some sort of awareness IF thorns are in fact a defense mechanism

the reason for my thinking is simple.

If a plant is not self aware or aware of other things, then for all it knows its the only thing in existence. thus creating no need for defense mechanisms. On the same token i could go around and destroy certain types of plants over a huge amount of time and the plants would be none the wiser IF the are in fact not aware that they are being desrroyed.

kinda get my point?

They do have some rudimentary methods of interacting apparently, but I don't think that we have to worry about The Happening taking place any time soon.
