UFC heavyweight champion Randy Couture called it. Well, sort of.

“I don’t think anybody expected that” says Couture speaking of Gabriel Gonzaga’s stunning knockout of Mirko “CroCop” Filipovic April 21st at UFC 70.

I only take issue with him saying Gonzaga's the "better fighter". I believe if Mirko and GG fought tonight, Mirko would domintae him.

you obviously have never watched cro cop's other fights
he knocked out wandy with a LHK and i doubt you know who wandy is based on how you said "mirko is a ok fighter"

cro cop will dominate GG. He is training hard now, he had no plan for the GG fight he took it lightly. His mistake. Thats Cro Cop though, he needs a loss to bounce back.

Cro Cop would dominate GG if they fought again.

mmmm couture didn't really say flat out that Gonzaga is a better fighter, that was kind of the writer paraphrasing his comments about him being a more well-rounded fighter. He's right though, CroCop is really only dangerous in one position, as long as you get in close or take him down he can't really do much at all.

You want to see a demo of what happens when Mirko wants to fight and the other guy gets after him? Watch what he does to Bob Sapp, and Sapp is shall we say over agressive? It's all about Mirko's mind, like someone said above, somtimes he just needs to get KO'd so he realizes "oh shit maybe I should train harder and focus".

Cro Cop could beat anyone at any time including Fedor. He can also lose to anyone at any time, including Kevin Randleman. His style is such that he can never be said to be unbeatable. Randy was right, for him GG will be a tougher fight because he is multiskilled. I love Cro Cop but he is not Chuck Norris(joke) and I laugh when I hear people talk about him like he is.

I agree, and know mirko is not unbeatable. I do however know that he has a very rough time with focus, he was clearly not focused for the fight against gonzaga, he was looking at coture already. He's fought other multi talented fighters and won ( I'd say barnett is pretty good at a number of things). Mirko's good at the things he should be goo at as a striker, striking and takedown defense.

aznteabagger » Posted 4/7/07 6:25:00PM

he should take a page out of chucky's page
learn wrestling to keep the fight standing

Or perhaps he could have actually trained in the octagon. Never did before either of his UFC fights...little dissapointed in him, but he has been overconfident in a # of fights (didn't think Nog could submit him, and well randleman, gonzaga). I really hope this will be the last time he does this and just trains his ass off properly, and doesn't just study his opponenets when it's for a title.
