Hatsu Hioki Responds to Fan Criticism of Clay Guida   [View Full Version]
FastKnockout » Posted 9/24/10 8:39:00PM

At the recent UFC on Fox 6 event, one of the most hotly contested bouts of the evening came between Hatsu Hioki and Clay Guida.

It appeared in the fight that Hioki managed to work significantly to land damage and finish the fight from the bottom position, yet the judges ruled the fight in Guida’s favor via split decision (29-28, 30-27, 29-28).

Shortly after the fight, Hioki spoke to MMAWeekly.com about the loss. And while he gave all credit to his opponent for the win, comments made by readers regarding Guida’s perceived stall tactics has Hioki wishing to further express his feelings about the bout.

Personally I thought Guida won 29-28, deep down I feel they screwed Clay out of a clear win. Hatsu did better than I thought he would but, I just dont see how anyone can score the fight in his favour.

Poor Hatsu... another JMMA star who cant hack in the UFC

I have lots of respect for Hioki now, he came out and said he wasn't the better man rather than making a list of excuses we hear all the time. What he said was true though, you don't stop the takedowns you don't win the fight

You don't see how anyone could score the fight in his favor?
It could have gone either way.
Hikoi won round 1, Guida won round 3, round 2 debatable.

Round 2: Both exchange hits (I'd say Hioki got the upper-hand in them). Guida slams Hioki down. Guida never passes gaurd. Hioki attempts a kimura, triangle, and armbar. Guida can't pass and does nothing so the fight is stood up by the ref because of it. Hikoi then gets the better of him in the standup before the round is over.

Fight could've gone either way.
The judge that scored 30-27 for Guida was smoking something though.

GOod for him being a man in defeat. But as a rational human who has two eyes that happen to be 20/20 vision I think clay guida is a lame fighter whos lucky to get the w. Its gis home town and he put on a crap show. HE wasout struck something like 26 to 41. Hioki had 1 offical sub attempt while guida (the guy on top) had none. So if guida landed half as many strikes and had no sub attempts what did he do for 15 mim? Last I checked points are not awarded for shaking your hair about the cage. Blame guida or the ref its up to u but this kids bullshit gotta stop.

The problem with this match is JMMA vs American MMA styles and judging criteria. Octagon control....not submission attempts.

A true professional. Much respect to Hatsu and I hope to see him come off of this loss a better fighter.

Agreed, and in admitting that, I have faith that Hioki will continue to work on his takedown defense and improve. He's 29, still plenty of time to build himself up to being a true contender. Some fighters just whine about things like wrestling instead of acknowledging they have a weakness and working to fix that problem.

hioki won that fight imo. clay guida is yet another fighter emasculated by greg jackson strategies.

u know that they did revise the scoring system to include sub. attempts to be scored, takedowns and reversals..it's suppose to favor the fighter who is keeping the action going..but i guess some of these judges also didnt get the memo..i thought Hatsu did landed and did more damage in the striking department..u can't score TD's that damn high eps. if the fighter doesn't try to pass guard or be effective with his position..

Hioki won the fight in my book. Razor thin though and that's only because of guidas takedowns. Hioki atleast was trying to finish the fight and never really stalled the action. Just my thoughts. But what's done is done.
