Jeremy Stephens plans drop to UFC's featherweight division in early 2013   [View Full Version]

Longtime lightweight Jeremy Stephens will change things up after the calendar turns with a drop to featherweight. The fighter recently announced the plans, which MMAjunkie.com confirmed with his manager.

that seems like a hell of a weight cut. I'm not so sure this is a great idea.

edit: upon reviewing his record this may not be such a bad idea. It buys him another chance to fight in the UFC when typically he would be cut. It looks like he may just go the road of Joe Daddy and Griffin: drop to feather, get one more shot, lose, pink slip. I feel a bit bad for him but then again I never really got over him KOing Davis.

2013 is going to be the year we see a lot of fighters making the cut to get as much of an advantage as they can.

this is good. he was never a big LW anyway. i think he could be a force at FW

Agreed. Probably going to have the most punching power of anyone at FW as well. I can't think of a guy off the top of my head who has more one punch KO power than him in that division.

I think it's worth a try making the cut, but i see him going the Ross Pearson route and struggling with the speed difference and loss of strength/power.
