Posted 2/5/09 4:33:00PM Gilbert Melendez (21-2 MMA, 11-1 SF) returns to action in September, and Pat Healy (28-16 MMA, 6-1 SF) will be the next man to try and take his Strikeforce lightweight title. MMAjunkie.com today confirmed the matchup with sources close to the fighters. http://mmajunkie.com/news/29874/gilbert-melendez-vs-pat-healy-headlines-strikeforces-september-event.mma

Posted 8/14/11 9:31:00PM Happy for Bam-Bam, but don't think he'll beat Jerry Curl Melendez.. |

Posted 9/18/07 5:33:00PM I like Pat Healy, but I'm really unclear on the guidelines in place about what guys can move or can't move to the UFC and when. Melendez could be a tremendous asset to the UFC lw division, and could really bring a lot of excitement to that division just as Cormier and Barnett could to the HW and so on. If Strikeforce is going to stay where it is, then ZUFFA needs to share the wealth and if they aren't then I wish the fans could get some clarity about what the future holds. It blows my mind that we are going to see Melendez/Healy (no disrespect to Healy intended) when we could be seeing Melendez/Edgar, Melendez/Henderson, Melendez/Maynard etc. Especially with the level the guys been fighting at recently. Maybe after this fight we get to see Melendez vs. Thompson 27...or 4 but it's one of those two I'm sure. With Rockhold dominating Kennedy, and the big boys sort of on hold, the most exciting portion of SF right now to me are the women's divisions. Does anybody have any insight on that no free agent movement thing? |

Posted 5/25/12 8:57:00PM BAM! BAM! The first BAM was Gil landing a Hard hook, the second BAM was Healys head hitting the canvas. Gil needs a tune up before the UFC. |

Posted 1/27/07 9:53:00PM Yeah, no one under contract with Strikeforce can come over to the UFC even if they are a free agent and their Strikeforce contract is over. Diaz, Shields, etc. made it out during a window where Strikeforce and Showtime were renegotiating. The only thing I'm not clear on is if a Melendez could become a free agent, sign a one fight deal with RFA for instance, and then sign with the UFC. _______________________________________ |
