UFC 148 payouts and salaries: Forrest Griffin tops Anderson Silva with $275k payday   [View Full Version]

UFC 148 fighter payouts for those who competed at the "Silva vs. Sonnen 2" pay-per-view (PPV) event this past Saturday night (July 7, 2012) from the MGM Grand Garden Casino in Las Vegas were released to MMAmania.com earlier today by the Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC).

Longtime UFC veteran and former 205-pound division champion Forrest Griffin beat out main event headliner and middleweight champion Anderson Silva with a $275,000 payday, which he earned for his unanimous decision win over Tito Ortiz ($250,000) in their light heavyweight rubber match.

"The Spider" banked a flat fee of $200,000, to go along with the rumored multimillion dollar incentive needed to convince him to rematch Chael Sonnen ($50,000) in the first place. That's not far off from the $150,000 check Cung Le will be cashing for outpointing Patrick Cote ($21,000).

There's no way to know what he made yet. PPV estimates will begin trickling in over the next couple of days.

heard it from a mmajunkie source. Just what I heard. Why wouldn't they pay a shit ton up front after pulling Silva off the Brazil card? Its not really a big deal to me just spreading what I heard.

It's just that the vast majority of his paycheck will be directly dependent on how many buys there were. If there was an estimate, it was at best based off of an educated guess on the number of buys...and also, they would have to have inside knowledge of what Silva's cut is. Either that, or they could use the Couture formula for estimating the pay. Either way, that's a lot of guesswork.

The point grappler is making is that Silva is getting a percentage of ppv proceeds so his final payday hinges on how many people bought the ppv. Couture and Liddell are two of the only big ppv buy percentages that we've seen recently but Silva will wind up making substantially more than Forrest. The numbers covered here are solely what the fighters were salaried at and include win bonuses for guys who had those built in in addition to fotn, sotn, and kootn, bonuses.

+ Nike. We were saying during the introductions that he was lacking in sponsors, but it doesn't really matter when two of the sponsors you have are Burger King and Nike.

And Chael made $50,000? That's a joke for as much money as this guy probably put in Zuffa's pockets over the past few years. Then again we don't know the extent of discretionary bonuses and what not.

And please enlighten me as to how the #2 featherweight in the world is making less than Shane Roller. I'd love to know why.

Griffin's high salary is most baffling to me. I can understand that if he signed the contract a few yaers ago but not is ridiculous
