Maynard, Guida apologize to each other for in-fight, post-fight 'heated' moments   [View Full Version]
prophecy033 » Posted 7/4/07 4:41:00AM

There were plenty of heated moments in Friday's UFC on FX 4 main event between Gray Maynard and Clay Guida.

Most took place in the octagon, including a couple sets of prominent Maynard middle fingers. Another happened outside the cage, right after Maynard's split-decision victory.

But after the fight, the two lightweights put to bed their short-lived beef.

Guida's game plan was a subject of frustration for Maynard (11-1-1 MMA, 9-1-1 UFC) in the fight. Maynard spent the majority of the fight trying to chase down his opponent, who bounced and danced and backpedalled and slipped – and "ran," as UFC president Dana White saw it. And though Maynard appeared to chase Guida (29-13 MMA, 9-7 UFC) down verbally in the fight, as well, and flipped him the bird twice, he said such behavior is not customary for him and he merely lost his cool.

"Personally, I don't act like that," Maynard said at Friday's post-fight press conference, which MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) attended. "It's a fight, but I was pissed off. I'm a human, too. I get mad."

I lost some respect for Guida after that fight. I thought I was watching Guida try out for So You Think You Can Dance. It's hard for a fighter to win a fight when the other fighter won't fight.

i take it your a Maynard fan? Seems like everyone thinks you have to stand in front of someone and let them punch you to be entertaining....thats bs.

It wasn't an entertaining fight. Not at all. I've never been a fan of either guy and I probably never will be. Good to see them hash this out though.

Nobody is saying you have to be Don Frye and Takayama, but Guida at points during that fight was blatant turning his back and running.

I'm just wondering why Guida was so unwilling to engage, after we've seen him at least before.

I said this along time ago, that I didn't like Guida and he wasn't that exciting and that was before his fight last night.

They both should be apologizing to the fans for that crap.

No more Guida's in main event's please.

I had people tell me they wouldnt watch ufc again after watching the fight.

Then I'd say those people aren't real MMA fans. The UFC has exciting fights all the time, so 1 wasn't

I'm a bigger Maynard fan then Guda fan after that fight. Getting a warning from the Ref for refusing to engage is proof enough that he was running. I agree you do not have to stand in front of someone and get hit. I was a big fan of Condits fight and game plan. He countered and moved to the side but stayed within fighting range. Guidas fight and gameplan was nothing like Condits. Guida was running from one side of the cage to the other.

I never thought I'd see a borring Guida fight. I don't think it was as bad as people are making it out to be though.
