Posted 7/4/07 4:41:00AM Later this summer, Strikeforce women's bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey returns to the cage. In the past year, the Olympian and undefeated MMA fighter has become arguably the biggest name in women's MMA, and she recently headlined a major event on Showtime. But soon, she thinks she could be plying her trade in the UFC octagon. "I think it's a distinct possibility," Rousey recently told "UFC Tonight" correspondent Ariel Helwani. "Women are tough. Women are clever. We're going to find a way to get everywhere. "You can't stop us. We'll be there at some point." Link _______________________________________ |

Posted 1/24/07 7:00:00PM I don't agree with rousey. Although if it does happen it won't be for a long time I think there is even more of a possibility that women might get their own promotion . Much like the WNBA _______________________________________ |

Posted 7/4/07 4:41:00AM Women's MMA just isn't profitable enough at the moment for Dana and co. to invest time and resources into it at the UFC level. Until they really start gaining steam in terms of interest, their gonna ne left on the back burner. It sucks but that's the truth of the matter _______________________________________ |

Invicta FC deal with women's mma exclusively, their first event headlined by Marloes Coenen wasn't too long ago. |

Posted 4/8/07 11:45:00AM Right now you only have a handful (if that) of marketable and skillful female fighters. Women's mma hasn't had the time or the chance to grow like Men's mma has. They may get there eventually but I don't see it happening for a long time. EDIT: Invicta is very smart on capitalizing on this. I agree with George about the WNBA comment. I think they realize that's the best way of approaching WMMA right now and they might be the promotion to really get things going. _______________________________________ |

If they don't get promoted and only fight once a year, its hard to gather interest. Sure Rousey and Cyborg and Gina (well she was a fighter) are the ones most fans know about, but there are a lot more great fighters that don't have the name recognition outside the hardcore fan base. Coenen, Kaufman, and Fujii, for example, have next to no name value to the MMA fan base because they don't get promoted properly even though they are some of the top WMMA talent _______________________________________ |

You'd be paying 500 for 12 fights most likely, not just one female fight. Don't shell out 500 if you don't want to see it though. It's as simple as that. _______________________________________ |

Posted 5/17/08 7:00:00PM I hope female fighters never make it into the UFC. I like Rousy but like Dana said, I feel like she is one of the few females that compete at that level |
