Though sober, Drew Fickett says a loss tonight could result in homelessness   [View Full Version]

Every fighter carries emotional baggage into the cage. Drew Fickett's, though, could stuff the hull of a 747.

The veteran fighter, who's recently tried to bring stability to his infamously chaotic life, makes his 60th pro appearance at tonight's ShoFIGHT 20 event.

He'll enter the cage with six weeks of sobriety, a new fight team behind him, and the real threat of homelessness if he doesn't get a victory.

"I'm facing pressure in this fight, but I've been through so much in my life recently that honestly, I'm not nervous at all," Fickett told MMAjunkie.com Radio (www.mmajunkie.com/radio) earlier this week. "If I don't win this fight, I'm pretty much homeless."

Fickett (42-17) meets jiu-jitsu ace Jonatas Novaes (9-4) tonight in a featured bout at ShoFIGHT 20, which takes place at O'Reilly Family Event Center in Springfield, Mo. The event airs via tape-delayed pay-per-view on July 1, though Canadian fans can watch it live on The Fight Network at 9 p.m. ET (6 p.m. PT).

How so? He said "I just still want to be able to compete with top-tier guys"....big difference.

When Fickett is at the top of his game he is a very good fighter. I hope he gets it all together. This fight shouldn't be too bad for him as his opponent is a Jiu Jitsu fighter. Drew is very proficient on the ground and only seems to get in trouble against punchers.

Drews a spoiler, I mean who could forget his win over Kos after being dominated for most of three rounds. I hope Fickett wins and keeps living in a house!

Ficket seems like he'd be better off as a trainer or coach now and be a part time fighter on the side. He seems to rely on MMA to pay the bills and it must be stressful to base your bills off your next fight, especially with the peanuts he probably gets paid. It's why a lot of good fighters retired before the big MMA boom, and the small time fighters take more fights because of it, not just because of contractual freedom. Bob Sapp seems to have mastered the art of the small shows with big pay for little damage, lucky guy, too bad he's the laughing stock of the sport.

Always thought he had great potential as a fighter. Its a shame the way his career has turned out but shit happens, I hope he turns himself around.

To a guy that has never won by ko/tko. It sucks but Fickett hasn't looked good for a long time. He put together that win steak near the end of 2010 but has gone back to losing, and losing quickly. I hope he won't really be homeless after this.

At least in the US he doesn't lose the fight until July on PPV.
