The octagon may soon once again boast a Gracie.

Inactive since an April 2010 loss to Matt Hughes at UFC 112, Renzo Gracie (13-7-1 MMA, 0-1 UFC) is preparing for a second fight in the UFC.

"I'm getting ready to fight again," Gracie told MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) in his native Portuguese. "I have a six-fight contract with no predetermined time frame. I still have five fights to go, so I plan to jump back into it."

Gracie, a former PRIDE and IFL fighter, entered the UFC in 2010 with a three-fight win streak, though he hadn't fought since his February 2007 disqualification win over Frank Shamrock at "EliteXC: Destiny." Prior to the win streak, which also included wins over Pat Miletich and Carlos Newton, the MMA and Brazilian jiu-jitsu pioneer had lost six of seven fights.

Easily my favorite Gracie.

Hope he wins a few. I'll always be a fan

That Hughes fight was kind of embarrassing to watch.

Weren't they high fiving and hugging throughout?

Uh oh, the guy that funded the BJJ expo that flopped when the Estima/Diaz camps both weren't forthright with each other, is all of a sudden looking to get some money and has 5 fights on his contract? I know he's probably filthy rich but it's coincidental timing.

"The day that a promoter won't book me to fight, even for free, I'll quit" - Renzo

We may have our first 90 year old MMA fighter here in 45 years.

I don't recall hugging and high fiving during Hughes-Renzo. I guess it could have happened. I HATE when fighters stop fighting to hug and high five. I can't say it enough. One thing I do recall clearly though is Hughes beating Renzo's ass pretty bad in rounds two and three. That was a sweet stoppage.

I wonder who they are lining up for Renzo to fight....

I only don't mind it when they're friends outside the sport like for instance Pete Sell vs. Scott Smith because at least they're willing to go in and fight each other where some fighters won't fight friends.

That would have to be my exception to the rule. Whatever gets the teammates or friends fighting. It still gets a little old though. A little high five at the beginning of the round, ok. But don't hug after every combo lands....

Renzo is a good guy. I remembered the feud between the Japanese and Brazilian Top Team fighters. Can't remember which fight ( Pride )- the Brazilian guy knocks out the Japanese fighter and continues to pounce on him even when the ref was trying to pry him off. A little scuffle started but ended quickly and Renzo apologized immediately to the Japanese people.

Anyway, the competition today is so much harder. Renzo should hang it up. When Matt Hughes can out-strike you, I think it's time.

I'm sure he'll get to choose who he wants to face. Anyone have any thoughts?

Mike Pyle retired one of his best pupils, Ricardo Almeida. I wonder if he'd want to try to avenge that loss. I know Maurice Smith would step in at 50 to rematch him as Mo has never retired, just stopped being offered fights (but has kept training hard through the years) but they're 205/170 so I doubt it would happen. We're not going to see a Gracie WW (Diaz, Shields, etc.) face him because of the Gracie ties. Bring over Mach Sakurai now that DREAM went under? That'd be winnable for either and both have big names. Sexyama may be an option. If Shields can work him over on the feet, Renzo may like that fight. Would he want to risk facing Maia? If he wanted to fight at 185, I wonder if the UFC would bring back a guy like Lindland for one fight or even a Baroni for a fight. I wouldn't mind a Renzo vs. Carlos Newton III since they each took a SD over each other. I can't see Renzo trying to climb the ladder or taking lesser names which is why I'm thinking of guys like Mo, Ronin, Mach, Baroni, etc.

eh.......?

He won't be fighting for a title so just toss him in to interesting match-ups. I'm all for Maia vs. Gracie.

Throw Henzo a wrestler to feed my enjoyment

I don't get why the UFC would sign him to so many fights with him being so old. I have very little interest really unless its agianst BJJ guys like Maia, Palhares and guys like that. We rarely get to see Gracie Jiu-Jitsu at work from a Gracie
