Dana White won't like the sound of this. According to a Tatame report, UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva suffered a knee injury in training. He will be assessed later today, but it's very possible that it could impact his July 7th bout with Chael Sonnen at UFC 148:

UFC middleweight champion, Anderson Silva was honored by Brazilian Taekwondo Confederation this Monday, but the day wasn't all about good news.

The fighter revealed to the press that he got his knee injured on a training session, and that he's getting tested today to see how serious it is. Despite that, the champion was not limping during the ceremony, and seemed optimistic about the recovery.

Update - Anderson tweeted a picture of himself training a few minutes ago and basically said that he's okay. Here's the translation by BE member mollcutpurse:

Folks, my knee’s doing very well, thanks! Relax, July 7th I’ll be doing my job. Oss.

Woo, dodged a bullet there. Fight is On.

just starting to build in excuses already for the loss

Silva is either trying to pull a 'Junior' or he's planting the seed for an excuse when he loses to Sonnen. He's got all his bases covered - now he just needs to go out there and lose.

I wonder what Chael_Sonnen has to say about this

We already lost one title fight to a interim
Wouldn't want a second one.

If so probably sonnen vs lombard for title

You guys are totally right.

There are only two reasonable explanations.

1) He's afraid of Chael Sonnen and is considering ducking out of the fight. After all Chael is known as a finisher and someone who is never content with eeking out a decision. When Chael Sonnen beats someone, he hurts them.

2) Anderson knows he's going to lose the upcoming fight and is readying an excuse. After all, Anderson hasn't had very much success in the sport so far. He knows that he can't do much in the cage and he's in a lot of trouble against a multiple time champ like Chael.

There are no other explanations, right? It's not like MMA is an inherently dangerous sport. It's not like injuries (minor and major) happen in training all the time.

I mean....common people, this isn't golf.

I'm just surprised it made it to the media. He or someone in his camp must have talked about it publicly before he even saw a doctor. Every fighter gets hurt in training.

You'd think his PR people wouldn't want to give Sonnen any more fodder.

I just hope he's OK and the fight can go on as planned. I'd hate to see it get postponed or have Andy get scrapped from the match.

Not me. I hope something is broken and the fight will go on as planned.

We Sonnen fans have been denied twice now. It's time the mma gods work in our favor.

Chael Patrick Sonnen is the Chuck Norris of the UFC.......problem is Anderson Silva is the Bruce Lee....

Any version of Bruce Lee is unbeatable......word

Nice! I was reading your #1 and getting ready to write a book about Sonnen's lack of ability to finish and then I caught on to your sarcasm. Well done.
