Mike Brown vs. Daniel Pineda added to May's UFC 146 event   [View Full Version]

A featherweight matchup between Mike Brown (25-8 MMA, 1-3 UFC) and Daniel Pineda (17-7 MMA, 2-0 UFC) has been added to May's UFC 146 event.

UFC officials announced the matchup earlier today.

Featuring a heavyweight title fight between current champion Junior Dos Santos and former Strikeforce title holder Alistair Overeem, "UFC 146: Dos Santos vs. Overeem" takes place May 26 at Las Vegas' MGM Grand Garden Arena.

Brown vs. Pineda takes place on the preliminary card.

"Pineda is developing as a serious contender as he will be looking for his third stoppage in the octagon in only 5 months and riding an almost-two-year unbeaten streak," UFC president Dana White stated. "This will be the toughest test of his career, dealing with Brown's experience, power and submission prowess."

Brown looks to build on the strength of his first-ever UFC win, a UFC 133 victory over Nam Phan. The much-needed result snapped a two-fight losing streak for the former WEC featherweight champion, who had suffered back-to-back losses to Rani Yahya and Diego Nunes following the UFC's absorption of the WEC's roster. Brown also lost a lightweight bout at UFC 47 in April 2004.

I really like this fight as we'll see how mike does against a hungry young prospect.

I'm riding the Pineda bandwagon

If Pineda wins he'll be 3-0 this year.

Good fight.

I'm leaning towards Pineda but he's susceptible to being submitted; something he's done 6 times in the past.

Right now, I'm about 60/40 in favor of Pineda. Don't really have a rooting interest either way.

thats what everyone said when he fought mackens.

no chance because he tapped out 6 times.
he also has 11 submission wins, 6tko's, and a decision loss.
whats the relevance? if anything, I see brown taking a decision win over a sub.
I think the only factor in this fight is what Mike Brown shows up.

I'm not saying he *will* get submitted. But can you really question the relevance? His record indicates that he's susceptible to tapping; to lesser competition nonetheless! It doesn't necessarily mean he *will* but, imo, you can't really question the relevance of the statement.

but it also states that he has 11 wins by sub, brown has 4 losses by sub.
can you write off Brown because of it?

I think its irrelevant because its not a situation of BJJ blackbelt fighting a Straight up striker.
Personally, I dont factor in HOW a fighter lost when making picks anymore, unless its a situation where a fighters skill in one area is miles above his opponents in that area.

People EXPECT Demian Maia to win by sub. I think thats irrelevant to his opponents skill because he should have won his last fifty decisions by sub and hasnt.

this is of course my opinion, and in no way do I expect you to agree with it.
